The design is ok, I guess. Xell really likes it. Personally, I'm not too impressed with the front of it.

How much does it resemble the original? Is it a lookalike?

Resemble T610?

@ Mizzle

Do you have any ideas about motion sensor games available to download for W910i ? thanks !!

I think he means W890i.

That device sounds really great to me, if it has the MegaBass function. I can't live without that

can anyone talk high end please

Could you please post a pic of "remi"? Yesterday you said that you post pics in one or two days.

One expert on Esato that never lets you down...

My personal opinion is that it's worth the wait. But... nah, you'll see tomorrow.

Okay, then tomorrow.
I'm sad because germany has lost... But you can make me happy with a pic now.

Remi sounds good, looking forward for the picture

Mizzle do you have any clue when SE will announce it ?

Posted by Mizzle
Nope, unfortunately not. But would be cool if it was some time soon, seeing T610 was announced in 2003 (Q2?). That would make a nice 5 year anniversary

The way I see it, higher processing power with WM more or less equals a lower processor with Symbian. In addition, WM devices have always had a battery problem. Let's wait until HTC Touch Pro hits the market, I'm not entirely sure what shape the X1 will be in and with WM7 just around the corner, it makes sense to stick to P1 until 2009.

ya know TIA for the pic mizz, however ...

they need to start by changing their platform so that its up to nice date, and then see where it stands against current competition and then IMPROVE IT.

which is exactly what i KNOW they tried to do with the paris situation. but paris wasnt up to date it was 2007 so itll be harder for them to bump if history is a precendent, but more power to them if they excecute!

i dont think its the engineers at SE i think its the programmers/management. engineers have one track minds, that is to create something excellent and focused, a reflection of their personalities ... the programmers cant keep up and the management has no vision for the company.

Indeed! That would be immense! Will Erik Ahlgren (!) be responsible for the new one then? I hope so. Won't look the same with the new keypad layout though, the extra Call and End buttons spoil the original design,. unless its based on the T650 chassis that is.

Can it be assumed the W960 successor will be announced at the big Walkman announcement sometime in the future? That would be nice.

I am trying to logically reason what OS it will run. The phone's probably been in development at least since the W960 came out, which was long before this Symbian Foundation thing was thought of, so it may be running UIQ--which is a double-edged sword. While UIQ is preferable, personally, to WM (at least as far as UI goes), I can't see how advanced it could possibly be besides 16GB of memory. GPS can be assumed given Paris and BeiBei, but unless there's something going on no one is aware of, it'll probably unfortunately be using the old architecture or at least a variation thereof. But I hope I'm wrong.

your hopes and thoughts are shared 100%. Hopefully the Call/End buttons will be ditched in the next-gen Java UI at the latest as they are self explanatory to most users and doing away with them allows more elegant design solutions. The T650 is living proof of that.

Ok, BUT 208mHz processor cannot compete in any way with a 528mHz processor in TouchPro/X1. No chance.
But maybe it's good to wait. I still think what to do.

correct! And only the N95s 330mhz OMAP CPU can compete against it. I can set it as my minimum CPU and i'll be safe. Too bad not plenty of phones to choose these days. But that situation vastly improve in two years. Thanks to the Symbian Foundation!

My thoughts exactly. By H1 2009 when WM7 is announced/released, Id really want to buy an X1 made for that new OS. In other words, what I want is an X1 with WM7 running on it. But Im pretty sure WM7 wont be compatible with the X1 the way it is. Theres no way theyre gonna limit WM to 65k colours this time. Not if theyve chosen apple as their competitor, anyway.

Im also really hoping they do away with the concept of the task manager in its current state of use. Ive never used it before to be honest, but I can say that with any PC running Windows, you only ever NEED to open the task manager when there is a problem. I dont see why it should be any different on the mobile version.

If they can correct those things, keep d-pad use, pretty-up the UI like they apparently plan to do, then I just could not care less for symbian. If they do these things, then to me its a great OS (and it will still be the most powerful there is!). I wanna see what that brings. Its interesting because I think WM7 will be better than Symbian Foundation in most ways, and a whole year before SF is even ready to use.

So everyone wants a Win Mo device but one made by SE then? Well at least you all want to stick with SE. In regards to the CPU's, the more powerful the CPU the more battery juice it uses right? Hence why again the HTC Touch Diamond has another downside, a 900mah battery. They reckon a day or 2 at most useage!!! Compared to the is it 1500mah in the X1?
I was never thinking of the X1 before, but as it's no bigger then the P1 with a slide out keyboard then hmmmmmm. Are se gonna make a smaller X1 without keyboard at all? Or are they going to see how well the reaction to the X1 is and how well it sells first?

USEB.

That is actually SuperSlick - i'll get one for sure - I love my T650i, and this is sure to be just superb!

Posted by peterbo
What's with the giant space between the top of the phone and the top of the display? Perhaps another color like darkblue would fit it.

Posted by Sony α
Hey,

What do you guys think will be 007's new handset in 'Quantum of Solace'?

After all, we have seen Ericsson/Sony Ericsson products in the movies ever since Tomorrow never dies!

Posted by domipost
I don't like it, i think it's basically a square W890i.

Posted by m.h Croatia
5 years later, screen size hasn`t changed that much at all.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I think the large space above the screen is to reflect the look of the T610i which also has a large space there. Also, the screen size isn't huge because its obviously only a mid-end phone really.

I am a little bit torn over what I think of it. I bet it will look nicer once we see some more pictures. I think the D-pad and surrounding buttons should be black like the T610i.

Posted by Sony α
@Oli

I agree - although, the compact from factor suits it well - not too sure about the keypad, I would have liked to have seen T650i-esque buttons, not a keypad ripped straight from the W890i!

Posted by domipost
Is there going to be a CS version of W890i allso? Like with W880i, T650i and K770i? (though i don't see what that phones have to do with each other )

Posted by Klue2k
yes the phone indeed reminds me very much like the t610. i still hope they release paris as that design was very nice =)

Posted by goldenface
Very nice. Its easy to see how they have purposely tried to replicate the proportions of the original - hence the large space around the display.

Although they could have easily included a couple of other 'nods' to the original such as as smaller black space on the back and making it a bit 'rounder', the original T was comfortable to hold.

Good effort though. Will there be a red a blue version? Has the codename been posted yet?

Yes, it is Remi.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I've made up my mind.

There's only 2 things about the phone that remind me of the T610i:
1. The black/silver colour scheme. But its not even done the same as the T610i, so its disappointing. And besides, we have seen the colour scheme on the T280i and T650i now so the revival but not revival thing is nothing new.
2. The large gap between the top of the phone and the top of the screen. Nothing major, and not many will notice it.

So overall, I find this a disappointing revival. The T610i was on top of its game when it came out, so surely a successor should be too. Something like the C905 specs in this but a bit thicker, now that'd work. This though... This is just mid-end generic-ness. Then there's the fact that its really a debranded W890i in a different shell - That shows that haven't made much of an effort to make this special. The T610i was a special phone. An classic, and it deserves better.

I don't like the design, its too square. I wish there was a bit more effort put into this phone. The T650 is nice so why not just give that an update with better buttons.

seems to take around 6 months to release a phone after its announcement therefore, if there are to be more phones released this year; we should be expecting an announcement soon.

The X1 and C905 are the only phones that I remember being announced, completely forget what the others are which means some high end phones are due.

in casino royale, k800 was 'the' james bond phone. At that time, was pushing the advertisement of k800 (since k800 was the 1st cybershot)

i have two guesses: the 'it' phone of Bond can be C905 (for this year is regaining the cybershot glory) or xperia (the 1st WM high end device)

or another, yet unannounced device

This new phone, to me, precisely highlights whats currently wrong with SE. SE is still the best manufacturer for overall product quality in my opinion. But what other than that is there to make us buy an SE phone? They used to have this wow factor about them. Like my old K700i, first cameraphone with passable VGA stills, K750i, great 2 MPx stills, way ahead of the competition, W800i, first real music-minded phone, untouchable in terms of playback capabilites at the time, and it still had a cam like the K750i. In my opinion the best all rounder at the time. Thats my point. More than anything, I chose SE because not only were they ahead of the competition, but they did it with style and they were innovators.

I see no innovation at all anymore in the majority of SE handsets. X1 is all thats come around lately that really does bring something new to the table. That, and I suppose the C905 which has Wifi in it now. But the cam brings little new compared to the K850, nothing you will actually use, nothing necessary. The cam itself, as a step up representing a year's progress, is fairly poor without optical zoom. Thats not innovation, so its not worth my money. SE need something more revolutionary than rehashed solutions, and they need it fast.

Theyre missing the point about quality and not quantity. They can release 1000 phones a year if they feel like it, but if I dont see anything good in any of them, then all that choice is for nothing. N95/N96, iphone/iphone 3G are selling/will sell like hot cakes, and theres nothing from SE to compete directly with either one. They arent going to become a top 3 manufacturer without stepping up to the competition. Their lack of profits agrees with me.

Is that really going to be called a T610 ??? Its a nice phone but i don't think SE should badge it as a T610.Some people around here where i live still use the original T610.

This message was posted from a C902

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
I doubt it will have the same name. And its hardly even a T610i revival. Not in spirit, not in spec, not even in looks - other than colour scheme. It will probably be a T series, but not T610i.

Posted by bodeh6
Probably gonna be called something like the T660i, T670i, etc.

Posted by Muhammad-Oli
Nah, new naming structure... I'd say T700.

Posted by goldenface
Another aspect of the design of the T610 was that to the untrained eye the phone looked, well sort of boxy. However if you examine the lines of the T610, its very hard to find a single straignt line in the design itself, all the lines on the T610 are a very subtle curve.

There doesn't seem to be any of that in the new phone but still it looks good I suppose, the keypad isn't unique to the design but it could have been better. The Photoshoppers on here could have conjured up some interesting designs.

Posted by EMS06
That is disappointing! I expected better than this, too square and those W890 keys are also not nice. This was supposed to be a successor to the legend that was the T610 not a confused W890.
