When was the p1i announced? Most probable for the p5i (or whatever they call it) to be announced at the same time or later.

Jan 23-24 announcement will probably be for Lai and Deena... I'm being told that these will be mid-end or low-end devices...

As for Barcelona, SE usually has a press conference on the eve of the event... Hopefully, it should be the same this year i.e. on Feb 10... Btw is anyone of you going there? Would love to meet up.

K810, W880 announcements were at 3GSM.

does that mean we will see K850's redesign soon?

Posted by bodeh6
Hopefully we see the K850i replacement (K860i?) at Barcelona. Get rid of the touch sensitive buttons for more traditional buttons for the menu like the W760 and also improve the camera module. The current module gets last in comparisons with most 5MP camera phones. Toss in GPS for good measures or way off but maybe WiFi and I think you will have a winner.

If a phone was launched at 3GSM last year doesn't mean its replacement will be announced this year... I think a gaming phone is on the cards though it won't be PSP branded. Will get the models confirmed a few days before the event. That is, of course, if someone else doesn't get that before me...

Guys, remember that there was rumour about SE cancelling the development of the k850 re-design (due to major delay)? And instead of that they are going to just announce the successor? Hope it's true!

7 Megapixels, here I come!

Posted by m-one
@NightBlade

Nope, the facelift will be announced soon

Posted by cellpassion
but wont that kill the K850i?? I mean it was just launched a couple of months ago...

Posted by tommyswe
@m-one

Do you know when it will be announced? JAn 24 or February? And do you think that the release will be before June?
I really hope that the facelift is equipped with WLAN:)

EDIT: How do I get a picture as a avatar?

s**t...

@NightBlade Not far wrong there Buts only a face lift version at first.

But i have heard that a new K series is also due to be announced soon (march - April was what i heard) If its true im not sure

The K850i is a nightmare for SE and the release of the new K Series phone is sooner rather than later

1 in 5 phones are currenlty being returned to SE as faulty, this is not good for a flagship model.
Complaints are:
Build quality is poor, camera is not winning any one over, software glitches are too many, phone still cant record in vga mode, too slow, lots more and the battery cover is a shockingly poor design.

Oh well, I guess I'll be getting a new cell phone at the end of the summer...

Posted by m-one
Specs won't change significantly but design. There's a possibility to see optical zoom.
I wouldn't bet on WiFi

@cellpassion
Why should the facelift kill the K850-sales?
This question arises every single time when an announcement of a facelift is expected

Yeah SE isn't satisfied with the market performance of the K850i.

K850i facelift - nice

Any chances of another 2.0MP Cyber-shot? Or T series with 2.0MP + AF? Don't need umts/hsdpa/gps/wifi etc... Just slim and light - please

I doubt it, as a facelift version generally doesn't add features. Usually it just freshens the design and fixes any bugs or complaints with the phone. Think K800 to K810 transition. So WLAN is more likely in a new model rather than an update or facelift. VGA recording seems more likely as that was a major complaint.

Possible optical zoom, Manual slide possible over the camera too. New battery cover and to loose its finger prints

Posted by w999ismine
i have so far seen 2 people with a g600, i have seen 30 maybe k850 owners, i dont know most of them but its there. plus iv seen alot of w910 also, they both cost the same on contract

I'm on my 5th one, although this one is lasting a lot better so far

When we see k860i?

Posted by m-one
I wish I could tell you an announcement date but unfortunately I can't this time

Posted by bodeh6
Do you think that the K850i refresh will still have the touch buttons? I have heard most people just complain about them (ie the button being pushed while on a call with the phone to the face).

Posted by bronxdude

will SE launch another GPS accessory this february ?

Posted by cellpassion
@ m-one

Normally when a upgrade is announced, buyers wait till the new phone is launched rather than buying the one that is currently available. If a face-lifted version of the K850i is announced in Jan-Feb, many people will not buy the K850i, which would mean lot of surplus K850i inventory for SE.

I would rather bet on a higher-end version of the K850i which would be priced say around $100-150 higher than the K850i. It could have optical zoom or a higher megapixel count. People who can't afford it would go for the K850i. SE can then announce the face-lifted version of the K850i in mid-2008.

That's what I think and I can be wrong.

Posted by SilveR.
A K850 face lift is real needed,

They need replace it with a new d-pad, and a cameracover as K810, and hope for the optical zoom..

The K850i was announced in June 2007 and according to some it was delayed although I am unsure by how long, I'm guessing a few months? If it was delayed by say 3 - 4 months - then it was initially supposed to be announced in February / March 2007.

The previous flagship K800i was announced February. 2006

A new flagship cameraphone for February 2008?

Possibly.

Well in the Indian market, the K850i has been released last month only though the announcement was made alongwith the global announcement... sometime in June-July i believe... I'd bet SE would most probably launch an all together new cybershot phone than just the K850i facelift!

Posted by m-one
@cellpassion

You have to know that the costs for R&D for facelift-versions are negligible to the enormous costs of succsessor-versions
That's why the companies often offer a facelift after realising the decreasing sales/demand and market performance.

Posted by aydahm
Better D-Pad, more comfortable keys, manual slide cover, and less finger print mangeting and of course less hardware and software problems...

I think if these are implemented to the K850i facelift then it will be more than enough to become a bestseller...

Maybe there's a Vodafone edition ready to be announced soon as well. Sometimes they get the same codenames.

Since he hasn't posted it yet himself (maybe he's at the toilet?), here goes yet four new codenames. Angelina, Emilie, Josephine and Tyra, three last ones to be launched in Q3.

The K850i isn't even out in New Zealand yet, but the Sony Ericsson site says it is. The coming soon star was only recently taken down. This likely means we will see it here shortly.

I think that if they announce the K850i update this soon, then it will sell poorly here. While New Zealand is hardly a target market or a big market for SE, it is for the above reason that I don't believe we will see the update very soon.

The back only, or the front aswell ?
don't know, personally I'm no fan of japanese phone design
at first sight thought w760 has certain similarities to japanese design too, didn't like it, but now after live pics, like with most se design started to like it

i hope they come up with a good-looking phone, yet the most important for me is it has solid build quality and flawless software

Posted by not_me
is there going to be a non walkman branded version of w760, like s600 or so ?

Posted by Mizzle
@not_me
Back. Camera design, I mean.

Josephine and Beibei

is the names of the coming new symbians from SE that will be presented within 5 weeks ... one with 3,2 MP and the other with 5 MP

That's what I've been told by ex-:se: employee But with the model index and name changing, maybe the codename changes too.
