Rumors rumors... Paris being canceled wouldn't be such a bad idea. SE could then work on a decent device instead of presenting old devices with different make-up.

I think Paris will re-appear with the newer hardware platform, it looks like it's come a long way in development to be cancelled. I also suspect Beibei to appear at some point but maybe they are still sorting out the bugs on UIQ?
I think we will see a new Xperia UIQ absolute top of the range device by the end of the year. With specs you'll drool over. We know it will sell, just look at the iphone version 1, stupid price but sold by the bucket load despite lacking basic features. And then theirs the luxury Nokia's.

Paris may be canceled the same way Bella was "canceled" and turned into the phone we know as Paris. Maybe with hardware updates, it gets a new codename and therefore "Paris" is no more, but the phone still exists.
Regardless, that is pretty major as bav said. Still, I'm looking forward to Shiho at the moment more than anything.

No Paris? What's going on then? Maybe Paris was too similar to the G900 but with qwerty so it seems a bit useless. Even if it had some super hardware, it would be running the same UIQ as G900 so it would not be such a noticeable upgrade. Loss of Beibei is no big deal to me.
The next G series phone should be the G700 with GPS and touch focus (G900 camera is crap in real life), that would be excellent. SE have made the G phones a bit too good so the P phone has to be much better and I guess SE maybe stuck. I would do a UIQ version of the X1.
Since no Walkmans are being announced now, I hope there are some special devices coming up. I want to see the Java phone and hopefully, the W version of the G700.

I doubt that the actual phones of Paris and Beibei are canceled. They may have new names, but not canceled.
Posted by apolloa
Paris was rumoured to be running UIQ 3.3 so much newer the the G series. Also the G700 is out already with a lower quality camera then the G900? And before you say the G series phones make crap photos perhaps you should take a look at the G series photo thread as they look stunning for what they are.

Wow, even after creating a promotion video, they might be canceling the phone? It's such a nice looking device, but I wouldn't mind them "temporarily" taking the device away from us to do a few major upgrades, then giving it a new name...
Posted by Xajel
I think the Paris & BeiBei thing is duo to the very negative response around the net about it's old hardware, and coz 'Paris' & 'BeiBei' are just codenames for a HW/SW platform, they are cancelled ( the codenames ) to bring new HW/SW like the original Paris code name, and like 'Maria' wich is also cancelled duo to HW update

CANCELED oh-no, problems or changes ?

Even after announcing phones, they can still cancel them. Not really a surprise about Beibei and Paris, although I would have loved to see Beibei on the market.

We will see, how will be with built quility, cause I feel, that SE still doesn't make inference.

I would like to know how much $$ SE did spend for BeiBei and Paris project if they canceled these..
But C905 looks damn good in black..
Posted by bavlondon2
It would probably be a good thing if Paris were cancelled. By the time it would even hit shelves it would still not even be on par with the N95. But at least the C905 looks like it could be a hit.
It would be a shame though if the G702 got cancelled as its the first really newish phone from the G series in terms of software platform. Camer looks pretty usefull too.

Wtf are you talking about??
G702 is just repeating some G series ideas when Paris was supposed to be the next gen. of smartphones! Something what is missing on SE right now.

Strange leaks anyways. Strange 'cos different every month.
It's seriously late, if we assume that the last SE's smartphone announced is P1!!!

Agree 100% with you. I wonder what we will get in the end.

If these were cancelled with a view to update the hardware then thats a good thing so I dont see what all the negativity is about. If in the end of comes back better then so be it.

IF the above is true, than good.
But users here remember well some previous SE stories,
so you know, even with the huge amount of good will,
nobody's trusting SE 100% anymore...
The rumours are strange, I'd say.

I'm curious, what kinda UIQ smartphone are you hoping SE will make?
Something similar to going from P900 to P990. I already have a P990 (actually 2 of them) so I wouldn't pay for the same thing with a different makeup.
There has to be improvement in RAM, processor, screen, more frequencies support, WLAN "G" and possibly GPS - with a decent keyboard. Along with some simple ergonomics, such as the headphone connector not being at the side, jog dial. Symbian 9.5 would definitely be a plus.
Please note that currently none of the SE offerings since the P990 have even the same size screen as the P990.
Posted by m.h Croatia
Its even more sad that the ancient p800 had a 3˝ screen!
Posted by the-flash
Oh ok well that sounds good. From that list paris doesn seem to have a 2.8" screen, symbian 9.5 and the jogdial. I think you better off waiting for an X series UIQ device since that seems more likely to suit your needs although I am not sure if the jogdial will come back anytime soon.

i think most of ur requirements points towards
E71
Htc touch diamond pro
xperia x1
htc tynt 2
Nokia e90
u may consider these for your P990 replacement

Sure he could get those but i doubt he wants windows mobile and ok nokia also uses symbian but if he wanted to jump ship then he would have by now.
Posted by makbil
I neglected to mention touch screen - take it for granted. So that eliminates Nokia for now and I'd like to have FM radio which also eliminates Tytn II.
And yes, I would like to try to avoid WM as much as I can.
It's too bad about the jog dial, I liked it more on the P800/900 when it was 5-way, I can get along with P990's but no jog dial is a restriction in functionality for me as I tend to use it a lot.
I suppose if I were buying a device to replace my P900 today, I would get the P1 because of its memory, if the P990 had more RAM it would be my choice. However, Tytn Touch Pro (AKA Raphael) really does look very appealing. If a comparable UIQ device is not available, it would be a comparison of features/price with the X1, currently I'm leaning towards the HTC

Thats 13:30 UK time? I cant wait. I have C905 on the brain.

I guess the excitement over the announcements tomorrow depend very much on whether you're waiting for a new UIQ flagship smartphone or something else.
Given the messages that there will be no announcement of a P5 device tomorrow and other rumours about paris/beibei being cancelled, personally I'm gearing myself up to be disappointed tomorrow.
I know I would want
to deliver a fantastic UIQ smartphone, with great specs and rock solid reliability from day one and I'll take a few delays if they can deliver on this and not mess up like the P990 but how long do they expect their existing owners and enthusiasts to wait before saying enough is enough?

Its that time again, announcement within 24 hours
Shiho looks immense in the black and silver, can't wait to get more info on it.
Sony Alpha just confirmed that this is one of the few devices designed and engineered by SE Japan, which is not hard to imagine given its similarities with the SO905iCS. It really looks the part, I'm well impressed.
Bring it on!

Thats reassuring. How is the build quality of the SE Jap phones - SO905?
Posted by goldenface
Can't say, never owned one. Allthough the S700i and W900i were both very well solid.
