Shiho looks quite small actually and I get what Eldar said about it looking more camera than phone. It does look nice though and it looks like it has pretty much everything in its spec.
SE needs this to work, Nokia are churning out loads of 5MP camera phones and loads of N series smartphones as well. I hope a few more UIQ phones are announced. The other Walkman phone looks good, but the Nokia Tube is coming and SE needs to challenge it.
SE are making an effort so all the people that are disappointed in Paris should open their minds because it could be excellent or there is something hidden away which is just brilliant.

Dunno if I'm getting Shiho. Probably not. The prospect of Paris (once again) being upgraded has me a little more excited. Will the twice-upgraded Paris finally be the phone we've been waiting for? Dunno. Probably it'll still be missing some marks. But maybe not. Hopefully we don't have long to wait.
Shiho does look pretty good. I don't really care for the front--too bland. I think it could have been spiced up somehow.
If Shiho were touch screen and OZ it would be perfect. But, alas.

I agree 100%. Touchscreen wouldve had me completely interested in Shiho. But at least we know Paris is quadband laurenke01 (or at least thats what sources seem to indicate). I do think Paris has it all though. Having seen the live pics from different sources of different protos, it looks good, and specs are good enough to rival the N96, if theyre as I think they are. This upgrade could further improve it (please dont downgrade SE!). In fact, I think that aside from G900 and X1, Paris is the best looking SE phone this year (bit of a shame about the boring back though, maybe theyll do something about that
)

This is what my source told me too. Which is odd, because the "P200" XML did not mention EDGE....so this leads me to believe this hardware upgrade has been in the works for a while (and that XML was outdated/old), since my friend got a quadband Paris proto to play with a few weeks ago.

breccia I simply must ask: whats your fetish for a 3.5mm jack all about. Its just a thing to let you plug earphones in, just like fastport. Besides, you can get adaptors for fastport anyway, but provided you can listen to the music, why is it so extremely important.
At first I wanted a superphone with optical zoom, but then I realised its not really worth it considering the rest of the phones optics, and considering the extra size. You probably wont use it much. Features like this will become commonplace with time when they become smaller and cheaper to implement. But youre gonna be waiting a long long time if you dont find a compromise for now.

My guess is that since Eldar said the Paris proto floating around was just UIQ 3.0, it had the old platform, but the UIQ 3.3 proto (which has not been leaked) has a beefed up platform and slightly enhanced specs (including, apparently, quadband).

Thats allright then. I think all this business about changing protos and specs and features and platform version...We know too much really. These things will happen in the design of a high end product and ideally we should just see the final result. But its going bac kand forth with these protos on the internet and its really getting nowhere because noone can prove what the final one is. That Gladiotis guy came along saying he had the final production model. Next thing he knows its back for tuning lol.
But my point about the info you provide us with, Mizzle, was that maybe by the time we learn of a certain issue with a certain model, SE mightve already changed it. Its not like were getting a live commentary here from inside SE. I just wanna know when we will see Paris though.

Oh, and I thought I'd pass along--my friend who got a Paris proto told me it was, quote, "awesome" and that I needed to buy one as soon as it's available. Take that with a grain of salt, though, since he declined to elaborate beyond saying his was quadband.
Also, his reaction to Shiho was, "meh."

haha those are my respective reactions! The only thing missing in the SE product portolio is an overall great performer, but on their own terms (ie not winmo). If Paris or another handset (xperia?) does this, then I think SE will have a full range to cater for pretty much everyone. Oh and a PS phone would deal nicely with n-gage and the emerging mobile gaming market. Itd be a shame not to push this sort of high end experience oriented product, because SE are already good at it, and cmon, theyve got Sony's backing. Just with that I dont see how they could fail. Itd be interesting to see what eventually becomes of the rumoured playstation phone, too.

i did a bit of calculation. I compared the thickness of v3 and shiho. Both thickness my on n95's screen is 0.7mm and 0.9mm(10mm at the bulge)
0.7x=14mm
X=20
Shiho thickness=
0.9x20=18mm and 20mm at the bulge
