You got the 40gb ps3 in uk now..imo its a better package. Its also cheaper than the 360 Elite i heard..

I had the exact same problem. I made like 5 different threads on different forums asking the same question. I was originally going for a ps3 but i was pursuaded by other people to get a xbox 360. Got it last saterday and its great! Console, 2 controllers, halo 3, forza 2 = £265 PS3 1 controller = £350 do the math. Its better IMO and ridiculously cheaper

yeh but its a games console for playing games. I have a ps2, 360, pc and dvd player in my room, all can play DVDs, i use the DVD player. And for me, i would never use blueray, i dont even have an HD tv.

40 gb ps3 can play all ps1 games..about the ps2 games ..it can't atm. But there is a possibility through firmware upgrades that software emulation can be implemented..so ps2 backward compatiability isn't entirely out of the picture..and about the price i was talking about the 40 gb ps3..its priced at 299 GBP and not 350 which is cheaper than the 360 elite.
Anyway Alex if price isn't a problem for you and ps2 gaming is an issue then the 60 gb ps3 has full ps2,ps1 playability.

I am interested in getting XBL and wasnt sure if a wireless adapter makes any difference to ethernet?
and @ th rest of you....i think i'm swaying toward the 360 as with the PS3 i would prefer having PS2 compatability and the extra mem card slots as AFAIK 40gb has more downsides than mentioned above^^
Also i would miss the games like forza2 and halo3 which i really want if i was to get a PS3....
so any other reasons to get a PS3?

I bought both...
Currently have an Elite and the 60GB PS3. Bought them both on the same day but play the 360 a bit more.
I'd recommend the 360 for this year, but next year when the big games come out get the PS3.

well it would be a more long term thing i was hoping for as i cba to get new consoles all the time...i also have a PS2 slimline and a standard Xbox btw but i will probably be selling at least one when i get a new console

I see a blu ray player + free online + i can connect my 200 gb sata hdd+ i can connect a usb card reader(which i wont ever need with 200gb) + i have more than 10 games to look forward to come november out of which 4 are exclusives and last but not the least...i don't have to fear RROD.
But 300 quid will only get you a ps3, 300 quid if spent on an xbox 360 will get you the console, 2 controlers halo 3 and firza 2 and £45 left over (buy another game)/
And that deal was at gamestation! Went all round town last saterday in loads of shops, and for me that was the best deal!

i reckon i'll probably go for the 360...and about that RROD...i heard it was called 3 red lights of death or sumat :s? anyway apparently thts caused by keeping the power cord too near the 360 or sparking it by wiggling the connector....
now to decide whether or not its an elite or premium i want....and a good steering wheel could come in handy too

@danny no work has started on 360 ut3...while ps3 is getting ut3 this year..so even if it comes to xbox don't expect it by 2009. And about 360 games..the thing is.. the best of 360 has come and gone..halo 3, pgr4, forza..while the ps3 is just starting to peak..with all those games i mentioned + mgs 4,killzone 2, grand turismo 5,soul calibur,devil may cry,sf4..+ blu ray becoming cheaper and and becoming the standard soon..imo its a great time to be a ps3 owner which i proudly am

The fact is some of the past multiplat games have looked better on the 360..but most developers said then they were taking time to figure out the ps3 cell structure..but now the results are better.. many multiplats are better on ps3 ex tiger woods 08 and now COD 4..and future well there's no doubt ps3 will be better graphically...because the cell is said to be 10x more powerful than intel's quad core processor..with that you can understand the power the ps3 has inside it..

Well i think you can classify me opinion as unbiased because i was going to get a ps3 up unti the last minute, and im very glad i got an xbox 360!

You can try and make that fact seem like a reason to buy a ps3 but it really isnt lol the best 360 games haven't gone, they are still available..and yeh those games aren't out yet though for ps3....and what about pes2008 and GTA for 360!

Get your facts right mate..check the ut3 home page..360 isn't even listed as a release console..so 360 version isn't even confirmed yet..but i'm saying you'll get it by 2009!

About DMC 4 yeah i know its on 360 but i'm more than sure the ps3 version will be the better bet because of the graphics issue..
And i'm no ps3 fanboy either..i considered getting a 360 first too but changed because of RROD..and yeah the whole world told me about 360 has games games games..but when i took up research on my own..i was quick to realise..360 ps3 are very much par on games side..its just that the GREAT games came out on the 360 first and on the ps3..they're coming out now! As far as the other features even you'll admit ps3 is the better bet..

The 360 is tempting at £150, but thats without a hard drive. Apparently you need a hard drive to play online, is that true? To store temporary content etc. Apart from Bluray what can the ps3 do that the 360 can't?

360 doesn't have a web browser unlike the PS3 but tbh it's not all its cracked up to be. When i had a PS3 i think i used it once?
Oh and also you can use bluetooth headsets with the PS3. Not sure about the rest though..
