Few, shots, I took today when I went to the new coffe/cake shop that has just opened in my town, and one shot of the river.

I forgot to put EVO 0, so these coffe shop photos are a bit dark because camera was set to EVO -03

I know I'm flooding you with photos, but I'm selling my phone tomorrow or on Monday, so I want to send some photos before I sell it.

Some shots from today:

Guys, as you know, I'm planing to sell my 902, and buy SE K810i, and a separate P&S digital camera. I just realized that I can't find a digital camera that has manual ISO 50 setting, and I want that, because I checked some sample night photos from the cameras I'm considering, and they are worse than night photos taken with my i-mobile 902. I'm talking about Canon and Kodak 7 & 8 MP cameras. That's bad, because I don't want a camera which won't be able to take at least the same quality long exposure night photos my 902 does.

Here are the cameras that are in my price range:

@SaLiH,

I think the Canon A530 has the same sensor as the i-mobile 902: 5MP 1/2.5". It allows ISO 80. This, in combination with the larger lens, I think produces even better photos than the 902.

Don't focus too much on ISO 50. The 902 needs this due to its small lens. A P&S camera will have a larger lens and can allow slightly higher ISO while still producing equal or better shots. The advantage with higher ISO is faster shutter speeds, which means a bit easier to shoot hand-held.

I recommend that you pick a camera with a larger sensor in combination with the resolution: maximum 5MP with 1/2.5 sensor, or max 7MP with a 1/1.8 sensor. DPreview.com gives the full specs, including sensor size for all camera models.

Whatever you do, don't pick the Kodak C513! It has a small 1/2.5 CMOS sensor, so I would expect not much better than N95-quality photos from it.

@AbuBasim
Thank you for the advice, I checked many reviews about these cameras on these sites:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/

http://www.dpreview.com/

http://www.photographyblog.com/

http://www.trustedreviews.com/

http://www.digicamreview.co.uk

http://www.ukdigitalcamerareviews.co.uk

http://www.imaging-resource.com

http://www.cameras.co.uk

http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com

http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/

http://www.cnet.com/

http://www.megapixel.net

http://www.livingroom.org

http://www.itreviews.co.uk

And my finalists are:

Canon PowerShot A530

Canon PowerShot A550

SONY Cyber Shot DSC-S650

SONY Cyber Shot DSC-S700

SONY Cyber Shot DSC-W35

& maybe some Panasonic model

I'm not such a fan of Kodak, their V803 8 MP camera
(http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/kodak/v803-review/)
produces average night photos with much noise, it has a weak flash, although the camera looks great. I just don't like when the camera doesn't allow manual iso during long exposure night shots, like it's the case with this Kodak model, and a few other ones from this list.
I would also go for FUJI, but these two models that are in my budget are not so great.
I'll probably buy CANON, because I had
Canon PowerShot A40, 2 MP camera for 4 years and it was a great camera.

This would be my perfect camera, but it's a bit expensive for me now.

Canon PowerShot A640

i left the battery on charge overnight for approximately 6 hours and when i tried the usb cable and the charging cable this morning. the battery wouldnt charge and it wouldnt connect to the computer via usb. is this a known problem if you overcharge the battery?

also is there a way to delete the pre-installed games/applications on the phone?

I don't think you can overcharge the battery.

The software in the phone has a few bugs. I did have a problem once with charging. If this happens to you again try switching off the phone and remove the battery and keep it out for some time. I don't know how long. I tried one hour and it solved my problem, but this is probably more than enough. Then put the battery back in again and switch on the phone again.

I want to understand something, when Im taking night pictures (in night mode of course),they get really really blurry... is there any manual setting to take good night images,or do I just need to put the phone on a solid surface whenever I want to take a night image?

Posted by indup
thenerd, from what ive gathered for night pictures put the phone down and also use the timer.

Posted by AbuBasim
Yes, the shutter speed is very slow in Night mode, up to four seconds. If you move the camera even the slightest during the time the shutter is open, the picture will be blurry. It is impossible to shoot good night photos while holding the camera in your hands. You need to either hold it against a wall, or let the phone stand on its own on something.

thanks alot.
btw, shame that this phone takes better pictures than my dedicated 5mpx digicam \-:

its amazing how it can handle so many low lights situations.
I have both K800 and N95,and their images dont even come close to those of the i-mobile 902.
no use for symbian nor GPS,so Im selling both K800 and N95.

I have three old digicams: Sony DSC-S75 (3 MP), Olympus C-350 (3 MP) and Canon EOS 300D (6 MP DSLR). The i-mobile 902 is better than the Sony and the Olympus.

Having said that, the slow shutter speeds make the i-mobile more difficult to use. Like this shot:

Can you see the tripod legs?

Posted by TheNerd
well it makes it hard to use on low light conditions, but basically,I havent had any probelm with the shutter speed with taking daylight images... only night images.

What does the i-mobile look like? anyone have a pic of it?

@AbuBasim

That's a great shot! So you still have your K750i, lucky you.
The things I'm going to miss on my 902, are:
1 of course, the best CCD 5 MP camera, found in the phone
2. video reproduction, it's the best I saw so far
3. the speaker, which really, and I mean really loud, and it's not stereo
4. recording to wav from radio
That's bout it.

I forgot to tell you that those shoots you posted before are amazing, do you use your tripod all the time now.
I wanted to buy one of these two tripods before I decided to sell my 902, but no I don't need it anymore since I'm going to sell it:

Sunpak 620-502R VersiPod with 3x Tripod, Adapter, Carry Pouch (Silver)

Sima Universal Mini Tripod w/Camera Clip

@ $herry,

Plenty of photos of the phone in Mobile-review's review. Note that all the phone photos were shot with a second unit (look in the reflections) . . .

@ SaLiH,
Thanks. That K750i belongs to my wife today. She upgraded from her K700i when it started misbehaving and she took my phone (in mint condition of course; I treat all my electronic babies just like.. eh.. babies!).

Regarding the tripod, the one your are showing is similar to mine. I use it for most indoor and low-light shots. The photo I took above is hand-held though (as you can see my hands also in the K750 mirror).
Here's my post a few days ago in the i-mobile 902 related questions thread about the tripod I ordered, from which I can remove the plastic clip and fix on my full size tripod also:

. . .
I just ordered this myself:

abubasim, the first tripod how big is it and is it something you carry in your pocket?

Posted by AbuBasim
@indup,

I only have this one:

It's quite small and the upper part, the clip, can be unscrewed and fixed on a real tripod. The inside of the grip has rubber lining so it catches the phone quite well.

in the "focus mode" setting is it better to use 'center' or 'multi', or doesnt it make much difference. i think multi is best for macro but what about other shots?

Excellent shots there, indup. Regarding focus mode: it depends on the scenes. With multi you're letting the phone pick a spot to focus on. With center you always aim at the spot you want in focus, then you can move the camera to have something else centered.

This reminds me of one of the few things missing in the camera: AE lock. But then again, I have only seen this feature on high-end dSLRs.

Posted by TheNerd
im asking myself the same thing...

Posted by indup
i thought "centre" focuses in and sharpens the object thats in the middle while the rest of the picture may not be as sharp. and that "multi" focuses and sharpens the whole picture. is this wrong?

Posted by AbuBasim
Look carefully next time you use multi mode for focus. It shows a white matrix across a big part of the screen. Then when you squeeze the trigger it picks one point in the matrix for focus and shows this as green.

Posted by rockygali
so everything has been said and done with the phone...

can i ask the owners? is it good to bring 902 to bars and parties?

i dont quite see any people shots in low lit situations...

and some other night scenery shots are taken with peculiar sharpness..
like the whole scene is sharpened (or in focus) but the people are not.
was these shots taken using a tripod also?

thanx guys.. i just wanted some opinions before buying this phone for missus.

TIA

Last night I finally sold my i-mobile 902. Here are the last shots I took yesterday. Don't worry, I have plenty of shots, so you'll be seeing me here more. And of course, I'm still there if someone needs advice about i-mobile 902. One thing I forgot to mention, and I'm going to miss from my 902, is excellent TV OUT capability. I'll post some shots tonight, I have to hurry up to catch my bus, I have some lectures at my university.
p.s. I'm using Samsung C130 now, untill I decide what will I buy next.

nerd, when taking pics of the sky do you just use regular/auto settings?

Posted by TheNerd
on that particular image of the sky that I have in my gallery I used the "cloudy" setting.. well because it wasnt a very sunny day as you can see.
but basically, taking sky images or regular images,on a sunny day -->daylight

Cloudy day ---> cloudy.

Good photos there TheNerd. I would also post at Flickr if I could feel confident that the site wouldn't be blocked by the government ISP here in Oman. They have already banned the site in the UAE.

@rockygali

Well, one of the reasons I sold my 902, was also the fact, that you can't take good indoor shots of people with flash, using 902. And that's because first, the flash doesn't have assist light, like K800i, even dough 902 flash is more powerful than K800 flash, the second thing is absence of noise reduction, so the photos look ok, but with lot of noise. So you can either, increase or decrease EVO and try to get better shots. I was able to get good shots with my K750i+MXE-60, but with 902 it was harder.

Posted by TheNerd
Actually I have no problems with shooting indoor.
only in one case, where there is alot of movement, since if you want to get a clear image, you need to shot it with iso50.
and of course you cant get a flashed (with flash) images to be the same as a regular digicam, since the flash is very weak compared to a regular digicam.
as an owner of a k750 (more likely w800,but its the same) and a K800 and also a N95, I can safely say that even when it comes to indoor shots, the 902's is faaarr better.
the image is brighter in case when you use the mxe-60(with w800),but still,I find the 902's images better (of course if you take the image properly).

Before you sold your 902, you could have tried this: when using the flash, don't keep the ISO at Auto, set it to 50 or maximum 100. This makes a big difference in reducing the noise when shooting with flash.

To comment my own post
- It reduces the noise but does also make the photo darker of course. I agree with SaLiH that this camera phone is not well suited for indoor photos. The only usable flash-mode I think is slow-sync for cool photos with movement. Here's one example with my sons playing:

Charles Frith has a few cool examples at Flickr.com.

And now to something completely different:

An infra-red photo!
