@darrengf - glad O2 replaced your phone for you, fingers cross this one will beat all the previous one. So far my T-Mobile K850i blue has been OK now I've updated to 037 & done a master reset apart from the random reboots which are definitely still happening

ok, so now I'm on R1DA038.
Guessing that this was a fix for people like myself who'd done the recovery update to 037...
.. is there a way of telling if this is really 029 in disguise or if it is 037 with the voda branding? the 3/H icon have gone back to the old (better looking) 3G/3g+ in the top, and the icons in the menu aren't too big anymore.... but all this could be branding.
Also.. I keep getting an 'indexing of files failed due to lack of memory. Delete one or more files of your choice' message... there's 39mb free on the phone mem!
And a feature request for future, if SE do read this.. can we have a contact filter so I can set it to answer and immediatley hang up on certain contacts - I'm getting pestered by an autodialler!

ive found a way to get the k850 out of these crashes quickly, when the screen goes all black when its has crashed, press the camera on/off button and it always got the phone back to normal quickly

It has and it hasnt. The flash still works better. But i can still get the phone to take dark pics with the flash on. So i use red eye norm to try and resolve some of the flash problems.

Hi Everyone! What i think about the flash problem...
I'm from Brazil and sorry about my bad english.
I Have a green K850i using the R1CA037 and was build on W42 of 2007.
The flash issue is really anoying. It's seem to be fixed after the 037 the problem of all black photos but an other problem remains...
It's seemns tha the ilumination of the flash is controled by the view you are pointing. Like the focus square. Let me explain an example:
If you are taking a picture of an person and have a car on the back it will control the ilumination acording to the place you are pointing. If is the person the car will look a lot darker. and vice versa. But this system dosen't work all the times. Like if i'm in a dark restaurant taking a picture of two persons and exactly pointing the focus square on to their faces sometimes it seens to dont work and the photo gets dark because another object more close to the cellphone like a vase with a flower etc is messyng all, dont matter with i am pointing to the faces of the people...
My old K800i dosent have this. Really sad I bought and 800 USD (here in Brazil) phone that make me take dark pictures 2 or 3 times before taking a right picture...
That all. Does anyone noticed this problem.???

Intersting, let me try that, so a good solution is to press the cam button a litle harder after focus? I'm going to try and tell later...

Never in my life have I heard of a mechanism that has 3 levels, especially 1 designed to take a black picture.

To follow up on my previous post... this problem only affects SOME K850i's:
K850i PCB reference design:
My 07W47 K850i LED control:
This is on 80% brightness, with a dark environment so no auto-LED brightening. This unevenness wasn't apparent in my old handset made in W37, not sure if this is a firmware problem since the F/W DOES control how the LED's go off and on, I think.

@vbayma I completely agree with you and thats what i have been saying.
the blackness isnt there all the time., but i can easiley get the phone to take a black pic with out any problems.
**************************************************
@obentou I have the same with the w41 on my k850, I also had some very dark shadows arround the screen.
My w47 has none of the inherent faults of my other 4 phones.
in my other 4 phones i have had
touchpad issues, keyboard issues, led lights no correct, dust under shutter, poorly shut battery compartment and so on.
Nothing is like that on my w47 phone.
However if this one goes faulty then i may get a Nokia N82
***************************************************
@ vortigern. R1DA is the current version and is now replacin version R1CA. (It hasnt been fully released as of yet)
I beleive that some people are havin issues with memory problems on R1DA038 so keep your eye on your phone.
***************************************************
@alanjrobertson I cant fault o2 in all of this, they have been very good.
The reboots are still hapening on mine, so dont worry about it. SE are aware of the fault and the next firmware should resolve most of the issues people are having.

i didnt say that is a another design. and its also strange to me. anyway its ok.
and other thing is it doesnt need to cover the whole sensor to screw up da pic. its enough small shadow of finger to make da pic black.

yes its true they are controlling brightness of LED in keypad trough firmware and everyone does. and also there are some certain issues abt LEDs as well..
in ur case, cant say its in firmware.cz keypad lights coupled with horizontally. (this time m nt crazy) cz when ur plug ur handsfree u can see some light pattern and they animate in vertical way. so firmware should treat fairly everyone in row.
so fault should be in LED. which has higher resistance than the other. (i guess so).

Im not a happy chappy, ive just recieved my 4th K850i on O2 and this one is worse than all the rest ive had, the problem with this one is the bottom left corner of the lcd screen just below the "media" menu, there is a bright white led showing through. It looks like the screen hasnt been put on properly or not straight, ive phoned O2 today and they are sending me a new one out on fri, if this one isnt right im going to swap and move to a LG Viewty as from what ive read they have a much better reputation than these do. Last chance Sony lol !

I have just got my 5th replacement from o2 and this is much much better screwed together. w47 is the phone date

Haha, I agree with you here! Probably poor manufacturing of the PCB... bah, can't believe I've picked up 2 bad apples now. Might just go with a green one, all the ones I've tried had none of these problems.

This is the pic of my new phone and the display problem in the left hand corner of the display.
Posted by stevenupton1
Sorry my mistake here is the pic.
Posted by darrengf
Oh i see. Yes its the same as my last 4 phones I had. It is a reflection from the bottom of the screen onto the shiny glass.
If you look down the phone glass it self the other side is the same, but this is never visable on the main screen when the phone is held flat
I have enclosed a pic of mine. However mine doesnt look no where like yours and mine is only visable at certain angles but other phones i have seen have it as well.
Posted by obentou
lol. I think all K850i's have that hahaha, because mine has the speck too, at the bottom left of the screen.
I make it less apparent by pushing the keypad up a bit, so that it closes up the area.

To be honest, I havnt seen one K850i that doesnt omit this.
From what i can see it isnt a design fault in any way. Just how the light is reflected on the glass from the LED.
To be honest I dont even notice it now and it never bothered me before.

I just updated my vodafone firmware and I got R1DA038 rather than the firmware mentioned on the first page of this thread.
And out of interest, does anyone know why vodafone remove the over the air update option?

The first part of the page has yet to be updated.
R1DA038 has only been on the SEUS server for the last few days. People on Voda wever updated to R1CA037 but the phones came back with generic icons and so on, so a quick fix was for SE to update the server with R1DA038.
Other R1DA038 have also started to appear on there too for other networks. TIM is one of them i beleive that can now update.
Regarding update via GPRS. Answer is. Vodafone dont approve of it for what i know.

Mine green K850i don't have this led problem at all...
It have the problem on the Standby clock you can see that on the left side the ilumination is a little more brighter then the right one

Hi all, Happy XMAS!
Just one question concerning K850 Camera function, that I could not
find Date/Time stamp function. I believe K800 had... Even K530i have.
Or, am I mistake that there is same function exist?

Nope, this function doesn't exist.

It's not needed... the information is stored in the JPG properties - you'd only need it if you couldn't work out how to use software to get the exif information - which you should work out as it's better than having text written all over your pictures!

R1DA038 is already ava to those who have Hong Kong firmware, Vodafone and TIM Networks.
Other networks and rest of the firmware will follow in next couple of weeks
People on the new firmware should now have ver 3.4 for the cameras.
