FIXED in my Luminous Green K850i R1CA037.

- FIXED : Manual equaliser settings are not remembered when exiting and then returning to the media player.

Ehm no, it's still here on 037 here

- FIXED : On some phones, the volume keys do not respond, requiring a reboot to restore functionaility.

Nope, after zooming in on pictures, i cannot change the volume in the mediaplayer until reboot

I just tried SEUS with my vodaphone K850i - still no 37 update! Pants...

Generic SO Central Europe with PL language pack too :/

@Deeko1
Blame Vodafone for that because of what they do to the software. If I were you, I'd unbrand your handset. They ruin the phone.

As long as people buy that ruined branded phones they will be sold. What VF did to the K850i is really a desaster !

I agree they shouldn't brand their phones that much, however, i havnt had any of the problems stated on my vodafone K850 apart from the menus being a bit slow and im still on the 029 firmware. well, i havnt tried every single one either but e.g. my camera never took any dark pics after i removed the protective screen and it has never crashed or anything.

Posted by Deeko1
Thanks guys...

Yeah, VF branding really is poor. I've decided to return the K850 before my 14 days cancellation period runs out. Probably wait a few months until I decide to go for it again or for something else. I got it on an upgrade and I don't think it's worth keeping it for the new 24 month contract!

I have to admit I wasn't that keen on the phone - When using it for calls my face kept touching the touch sensitive buttons! Maybe better with new firmware I guess!

Cheers,

Derek.

Does anyone else seem to have this backlight problem in standby? (eg. some backlight unevenness near the middle left where it is slightly darker)

I am not sure if this is a firmware issue, or a property of transreflective LCD's which SE decided to implement in the K850i.

Please let me know and thanks!

Posted by tai020381
Mine has it too, near the 3 touch buttons. But the rest of the screen seems ok.

Posted by obentou
Problem accounted for. Edited.

service it?

Posted by obentou
Hmm so this isn't normal? This doesn't happen to your K850?

The display is perfect when normally lit, but just this standby clock mode shows its lack of lighting uniformity.

@obentou - I've compared your pic to my K850i - it looks like one of the white LEDs isn't working for your screen - I can see four across the bottom but as you say your one looks like only 1, 3, 4 are working with 2 being dark. Looks like a replacement job to me.

Ever since updating the firmware, I've got a seriously annoying problem. Every now and again (in fact, quite frequently) the screen turns off and the keypad lights come on full, for no reason at all. It's always after I've pushed a button, most often after I try and unlock the keypad, but also just at random. It happened twice this morning when typing a sms for instance.

Does anybody else have this problem? It's annoying enough to make me want to sell it to be honest.

Hello everybody,

I'm on the .29 firmware in the UK (got the Vodafone phone early November).

I'm experiencing freezing, auto switch offs and now the "My Applications" is inaccessible ("Operation failed")...can you confirm that this is all to do with the firmware bugs?
Anybody out who had any success with Voda UK in reporting this and getting a new, FW updated K850i? Cos when I went into my locale Voda shop yesterday the shop staff was well puzzled about me telling them about all these problems....

Thank you
J.

@frosch411
There is no updated firmware for Vodafone-branded handsets. Your handset needs to be flashed at a Sony Ericsson service centre to cure the operation failed issue. If you can get the handset replaced by Vodafone, I'd do that.

Posted by obentou
Thanks a lot guys, didn't know it was a non-functional LED - in normal circumstances the screen lights up normally and evenly - I put on a blank test JPEG on the phone and it is fine... the #2 LED looks inhibited by something.

It's not worth it to buy a LCD and open up the phone, since I have NO idea how to (no tutorials either). Guess I'll suck up the ugliness of the standby clock.

Hey,

Actually for those with "normal" backlit standby clocks, do you mind posting a picture? I really need some assurance that mine is a weird LCD.

Posted by vishaldh

took the pic using my webcam in the dark so its not great but u shud b able to see that there r 4 LEDs at the bottom that are evenly bright, even tho it may not seem so from the picture.

Posted by obentou
Yeah I see it now... wow your's is a lot brighter. Damn, looks like mine is indeed a bad apple.

Oh by the way, I appreciate your help man - can you do one more thing for me - turn off your phone, pop out the battery, and check what manufacturer date it is. It should give a good idea of when the phone was produced. Perhaps maybe mine was manufactured early on, hence the LCD thing.

i suppose u mean the small plastic thing below the battery. ive actually never managed to get that out, is there some trick for that or something? it just seems to b too far in.

Posted by obentou
Oh the print is on the battery, the actual date is on the phone but I can't find it You can check the battery's date to estimate the production date of the phone.

I used a safety pin to pull it out. I had to get my patience together the first time, but after that it was easy.

Hey thanks a lot. Mine was is a bit older than that.

Oh well. Today I had the pleasure of playing around with a Luminous Green K850i. It seems that the plastic around the green version is a lot more plasticky and matte than the Velvet Blue one which I owned. In my opinion, I think the Velvet Blue version has a lot better construction material for some reason... the silver around the blue one isn't finished in easy to scratch material, while the black material on the green one easily scratches.

Yikes!

Better to sell it off now for a Velvet Blue one. I think I am quite sure the Blue version is made of better material... I could practically feel the difference. I went to a shop today and they only had green in stock. They let me check the phone out to see if I liked it, and although it looked quite good, the plastic on the sides just told me to pass on it. I ran my fingernail lightly on the side and it made a mark so easily. This wasn't the case for the Blue one. Decided to place a deposit and wait for a velvet blue K850i to come. Should be here Wednesday/Thursday!

That's good news for Vodafone customers!

Hell yeh it's good news!!!!

updating both mine now...

strangely though, it selected "Recovery Update"..

is this any different from a normal update??

Posted by Krzysiecw
It was strange for me as well, but this is 037 update I tought it found some extra update Recovery Any way good thing is that SEUS faound any update

Posted by Raaab
OK, this is AWESOME news....

looks like they've DITCHED the vodafone icons!!!!

I now have the generic SE icons, buthave a weird one in the top right that is a ! in a blue oval with "OPER SPECIFIC" in it.....

either way, the new icons, new boot icons, new status bar icons.... seems loads faster too...

seems sweet so far...

Posted by vortigern
I have the oper specific one too... but still have other Voda ones - it was a recovery update too.

... my browser now refuses to recognise that I'm in a 3g area now, so can't watch TV and doesn't show images on some pages.

Posted by Raaab
It looks like the firmware is missing all the VF customisations apart from the startup and shutdown screens. None of the Vodafone Live! pages are loading properly either..... not that i ever used them...

the only thing to try after a firmware update is a master reset really.

Finally, firmware update available for 3 phones in Aus... Still downloading, hope it's worth the wait.

...

Well, menus/media player seems a little faster now. If I listen to music and then operate the camera things slow down considerably, as before.

My menu icons changed (specifically the calls & video call icons). I re-applied the theme I was using but no change.

Woo! - SEUS now does T-Mobile UK updates too. I noted that although it said 'RECOVERY UPDATE' (as seems to be happening for Vodafone UK users) it leaves the T-Mobile icons as they were in the menu.

Unfortunately it's not fixed the random reboot problem - just tried to download the Gmail app (http://www.gmail.com/app now they've finally got it working for the K850i) and it's still rebooting itself whenever I try to do so - it even does so just sitting on that page and not even clicking on the download link. Will try a master reset next but would be interested to hear if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Alan

So are all Vodafone UK users experiencing firmware issues?? I got the 037 today after my phone crashed for the second time... But my mate (Manager of Vodafone Shop) said i'll have to remove it otherwise my warranty is void?? Annoying as hell!!

Posted by adriandaz
Just got mine on 17/12/07 updated the O2 firmware straight away before I used it. During navigation of the menus, particularly option menus, the select touch button could do with been changed to the left instead of the middle, so that it would be quicker and easier to get the job done?

Posted by vortigern
they can't void your waranty for updating using the software that came with the phone!
Yeah, I'm on Voda UK and have issues!
only thing I notice in the new version is the icons have gone all big and the applications one now says 'oper specific' ... and the 3G/H thing.
Still crashes if you try to do the weird play thing on a picture and now Voda Live & TV is screwed.

Still no update for my non-branded K850i in Australia...

Is there any (free) way to upgrade the firmware? I'm hoping it solves my problems re: HSDPA - I can never get the H or 3+ icon to display even when I have full 3G reception on Vodafone, which offers HSDPA.
