Still no update (even 037) for T-Mobile UK
I'm also getting the random reboot problem some others mentioned, along with not being able to access Google Mail, check my e-mail or access T-Mobile a/c pages (just examples) without it reproducibly rebooting. Have held off on doing a master reset at present as didn't want to reload everything only for an update to come out.
Sadly this is the worst shipping SW I've experienced with any of my SE phones (T18, T39, T68, T650(?I think!), K700, K750, K800, K850)

Another possible bug, not sure if it's firmware specific though.... quite a few times when I try to unlock the phone by pressing the * key first, the keypad stays illuminated but the screen doesn't turn on. There is no way from then to use the phone without having to turn it off and back on, or even worse, pull the battery.
if you think the screen is buggy when trying to unlock the phone, wait till you observe the many different ways it auto locks (quite at random too):
1. Lock comes on, all lights flash on/off then screen saver plays with keypad lights on.
2. As above, but keypad lights not on.
3. As in 1, but lights remain on and steady, no flashing on/off.

I would guess that the update we've all been waiting for is the 037 firmware as I updated my O2 phone today and it already had 037 and has flashed it with another 037 but the dates on the firmware's are different.
I reckon this big update is 037, just a newer version! So far I have not noticed a single difference (still slow in places).

DC:UK , Which date is your version ?

CENTRAL-EUROPE - 037 .
I have debranded my k850 with central europe 029 and when I tried to upgrade my firmware throw SEUS on 037 it says that i already have the latiest softwer.Any ideas why if its aweable on SEUS?

@DC:UK
The person I spoke to at Sony Ericsson earlier assured me there would be an update today so I would assume that when it appears, it will be a different version to 037.
I've jsut tried updating mine and got a message saying I already had the lastest software on it so will keep checking back on here for news.

Mine is CENTRAL-EUROPE , but i've flashed it in a service center today .

Dated today my firmware:

Does it mean 12.10.2007 , or 10.12.2007 ?

@~DC:UK~, I have exactly the same version you are showing when I updated on SEUS a couple of weeks ago
edit: correction, it wasn't available on SEUS, it was an OTA update

Hmmm, so that must mean the date format is 12 October 07 on that firmware then. Oh well, here is hoping that there is a new firmware around the corner.

But they did say that this will happen in January.

Anyone notice a difference if you turn off the stabilisation feature when taking photos? Once I read it can lower the photo resolution I turned it off. I haven't noticed any real difference when taking photos. The screen updates so slowly anyway that you won't notice minor hand shaking?

Does anybody notice with their display when the phone is sleeping, and you press the volume key to check the sleep clock, the display isn't evenly backlighted? Mine has some sort of "no light" column near the middle of the screen.

When you have it ON, your photo size will be slightly smaller. That's all.

I'm sure the reason why it isn't fixed is because it isn't listed in the first post in this thread, so the SE guys aren't aware of if..

I have the 37 version and i have BIG problems with the damn shutter that wont open!!! It opens like in 2 out of 10 times!!!
Anyone know if there is something i could do or do i just have to wait for another firmware-update?
Damn, i'm pissed off!!!

@turb0man
People say this is a firmware issue, but I'm not convinced. I'd take it for repair if I were you.

Is there a place where you can list down the bugs/enhancements you would like to be addressed in the next version of the firmware ?
I would like to see the date/time stamp on the photos as it used to be in K800 or earlier phones. Would someone tell me how to inform the firmware team on this ?

I guess that is what is meant by "Corruption of the file system can occur affecting photos, applications etc"
Although instead of being hidden away it should be written in big red letters - Having to reformat the phone because you can't text is a bit more important methinks than it occasionally crashing with some odd accessory!

Hi there, new to the forum,
Quite a Sony Ericsson fan as I've K750, K800, K810 and now...
Recently bought a K850 on o2 and pleased with it, but from reading this thread I have same problems.
First of all flash was my own fault holding it wrong...
Second the media player I like the setup of it but its slow.. and dosn't delete files untill or leave and come back in...
Video playback is out of sync with audio.. Think this only applies to mpeg4 codec which is so crap..
Why didn't they test these sort of things...
Some one make me happy and tell me there is a firmware update soon!??!

Is it always unlit? If so, sounds like one of the backlight LEDs isn't workn. I'd take it back.

Hi All.
New here
Bought my K850i in DK October 17th. My mate brought it to me, cause i live in China. Got it around October 25th.
After 2-3 days it suddenly froze when i started the PhotoDJ up, had to take out the battery to get it back "to life", which resulted in the message funtions were no longer available.
Called SE China service center, and they told me about the Master reset funtion. Tried it and it worked.
Called them again to get new GPRS / MMS Settings.
(I have been a Nokia guy always... this is my first SE)
during the next 3 weeks period i made calls to the service center to get GPRS/MMS Settings at least 5 times.
Girl asked me why i called so much. I answered, well... cause my phones software seem to be kinda shitty.
She asked if i had checked for an update, and i could tell her my version 029 was the latest one.
2 weeks ago i went to an actual service center to get them to check it out.
They had never seen a 850 before so "sorry, cant help, come back in a month then we might be able to do something"
Starting last week the shutter began to not response... Meaning my camera is of no use.
Did the whole routine of master restting and all, but nothing helped.
At that time i was actually "ok" with applications and games not working, but when the camera stopped the it was kinda enough.
So the status on phone today is:
1. Camera shutter won't open, so camera us useless.
2. applications "operation failed"
3. games "operation failed"
4. 50% of the times i start media player and "resume" it will re-boot
5. touch buttons are at a effective rate of around 50-60%
6. I seem to activate the touch buttons with me cheek or ear when talking.
7. volume keys does not work properly, and phone often have to be re-booted to get them working.
8. When watchin pictures, using the "play button" on the side and activating camera, after a while the phone will go on save mode, and only way to "un"save it again is to use "hang up" which will get me to the main menu. Kinda annoying when watching pics
All the bugs you guys list with flash, videos and EQ i havent tried. The list i made is the things i found before reading about so many people had problems with this SE wonder.
I wrote an email to DK customer service 5 days ago.
I wrote another mail to them yesterday, and added "Lack of Customer service response" to the Bug list.
I updated FW yesterday using SEUS, now the FW is:
1200-4400 R1CA037 071012
None of my problems have been solved after updating.
I still like the phone over a Nokia. The software on Nokias are shit slow......
But it would be kinda nice if the SE K850i camera phone wonder, would actually deliver what SE promised, and not as in my case (and alot others a can see now) just a phone which can make calls and type messages. I could have bought the cheapest china brand if that was what i wanted....

@victorinch
yeah I've seen you're 2 and 3 with SMS - Master reset seemed to fix, but I'm not gonna use the phone before I can update the firmware.
with 5, I think they are just a bit of wizardry that take getting used to... I find that if I pretend to touch the word on screen above them then they work more often.... it's annoying when you can't tell if it's worked or just being slow - I signed up for some online service 'cos I pressed a few times thinking it wasn't working but then it caught up and said 'accept' a few times for me!
I also have problems 7 and 8 which I don't think have been mentionned much before

K850 is by the far the worst phone released by SE with so many bugs. I have seen the operation failed more than once in my sms folders and had to do a master reset a couple of times till now cause of this problem. Till 2 days ago when i switched the phone off as usual every night, turned it on and the phone bricked, doesnt go passed the sony ericsson logo. Its been in the service center 2 days now, hope its just a software glitch. SE seems to rush phones into production without ironing out the bugs. I will never go back to Nokia though

MWarner can update the first page
O2 uk branded phones now are updating to R1CA037
this has been done by myself and friend this morning.
Posted by Hardcheck
also as a pointer, i tried the phones update service, and it said i had the latest software.
used my computer and it updated it to R1CA037
Maybe the phones built in update service dosent work.
Also final point, the first post reports that the shuffle function plays the same track over and over until you manually skip in media player.
not true, just updated to R1CA037 and my media player remember what track it was on yesterday (when i was on R1CA029) and i had it in shuffle mode and it carried on shuffling perfectly.

Updated my phone yesterday morning, 12-12-2007, via SEUS. Normally if no upgrade available it tells me so, but, I had the option of update anyway. It's as if Sony have updated SEUS to allow it. Anyone else experienced this? Or is it just me?
K850 on Orange 037 Firmware.
It didn't fix Oeration Failed or any other bugs/features, BUT, the phone seemed faster through menus. Media player is still as slow as a dead dog.

Is it supported by XS++ yet?
When it's call me so I sell my n95 and buy a K850

037 has been on O2 phones for a while. I've had my phone for 2 weeks now and it had 037 when I got it so that one isn't the new firmware that should have come out on 10th Dec. Will be glad when they do finally release it though as I want to be able to use my camera! Its useless if the flash doesn't work properly!

As my friend @Krubach said before, i bought the MBS-100 for my K850 but isn't compatible at the moment for the "new" phones
So inside of the MBS-100 box i found a paper that explain for the "new" phones as the K850 "phones purchased before February 1st 2008 should update their firmware for optimal performance"
It's the proof that the new firmware Update for the K850 will be available in January as SE has on their website

Question:
i have just gotten my k850i a few days ago.. but it feel lagging and there are lots of bug even after i updated the phone software version to R1CA037 (latest)..
i heard rumor saying that a new firmware will be out on 10th Dec, is this true? is the new firmware going to solve the problems i have on my k850i.. lag, black pictures taken from the camera, media player equalizer bug.
thank for reading, hope u will answer 2 those question i asked.. and i hope the rumor of the new firmware to be out on the 10th to be true.
reply from sony ericsson:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Call Center.
With regards to your inquiry,
I am afraid the rumours are not true, there will be new softwares, but they are due only in end of january/start of feb.
The newer firmware are meant to address the concerns raise by customers, and definitely, it will enhance the phone's performance.
Thank you and have a nice day.
Best regards,

Don't like this trend of products being released on the market with so many bugs/issues... XP, XBox360, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, iPod Classic etc.
I've had my K850i for just over a week now (Branded - Optus). Been following this thread since... After reading up on all the bugs n stuff reported, i decided to do a Master Reset as soon as I got it. Lost the demo video, some themes and sounds, but nothing i cant get back.. On the 2nd day, it restarted once on its own while browsing through Media Player (which was quite slow then..). Also had the problem of not being able to add birthdays to the calender from contacts, even if i deleted and added the date again...
Issues being faced:
- Charging battery-left hanging to 99% (USB charging excepted)
- Speed of searching through contact list
- A/V sync of MP4 video files
However, seriously dunno wth happened during the past few days, but now birthdays can be added to calender, media player runs way faster.. Contact list is still quite slow to search (its like running XP on a 386
My software version:
1200-4404
R1CA029
070922
Tried updating via FOTA but apparently it is "up to date"
Good luck to all those dealing with the "bugs"

Minor updates to the first post, adding benchmark numbers for 37 (thanks Krubach) and noting the availability of 37 on O2 phones. Sorry if I appear not to be keeping too up to date with this thread - I only had the phone for a week when it first came out before sending it back to O2 due to the bugs / inferior functionaility compared to the K800 I was experiencing.

Hi all
Is it just me that finds it amazeing that even though SE knows there are bugs and some serious issues faced by K850 users they will still take three and half to Four months to release the first firmware to fix them.
I really don't see how that can be right for it to take so long especially as they obviously knew of problems before release and this means your flagship Camera phone will miss Christmas and New Year Photo opportunities the time when most people will take more pictures than any other time of Year.
That is really appalling customer support and no way to treat users who have bought an expensive Flagship product and have paid and expect it to work as advertised.
Marc

Sadly i have to agree

One minor bug:
Set a theme with TitleSmall image. The TitleSmall image will accidentally appear on Desktop. Please, refer to Theme Creator to get more ideas of these.
Posted by aremaboy
Here are my findings so far with K850i R1CA037 APAC-ANZ updated via SEUS, not FOTA.
- FIXED : Shuffle functionality in the Media Player repeats the same track until you manually skip to the next.
- FIXED : The flash doesn't always sync with the image capture, leaving dark or black photos in night conditions.
- FIXED : Manual equaliser settings are not remembered when exiting and then returning to the media player.
- FIXED : Phone can crash whilst in standby mode, requiring a hard reboot (taking the battery out)
- FIXED : Corruption of the file system can occur affecting photos, applications etc
- FIXED : Alarms only produce three beeps on some phones rather than play the selected ringtone.
- FIXED : Some Video playback is out of sync with the sound
- FIXED : USB photo transfer can lead to duplicated pictures / removal of other pictures present on the phone
- FIXED : When you connect the phone via the usb cable, You cant see the ringtone folder
- FIXED : Phone doesnt support some Mp4 files and doesnt support some jpeg photos.
- FIXED : On some phones the shutter ocasionally fails to open when taking a photo
- FIXED : Not all symbols are possible to enter in the email client settings, e.g. not allowing you from adding a : for gmail addresses.
- FIXED : On some phones, the volume keys do not respond, requiring a reboot to restore functionaility.
- PROBLEM : PhotoMate always shuts down by itself and pops up a message of 'application uses too much memory' or something. Other applications like Opera Mini, Gmail and Y! Go work normal.
- PROBLEM : Once you move your Demo Tour to memory card, it won't be recognised anymore by the phone (although you return it back to its original place intact).
EDIT : Just my phone perhaps? Or I have done it incorrectly?
- PROBLEM : Title Small image accidentally and partially appear wrongly on Desktop. It applies only on themes with Title Small image element embedded. Refer to Theme Creator to understand this phenomenon.
- PROBLEM or NORMAL ? Backlight on screen and keypad always changes in terms of level by itself inconsistently. It may be due to the Light Sensor working on the surroundings?
- PROBLEM : Certain MicroSD brands are reported to ask for reformatting again and again when being used on the phone. (as reported by one member here, Rifqi_Aziz)
- INFO : Inputting text on Opera Mini can reach more than 6000 characters limit instead of 5524, e.g. when editing a more-than-5524-characters-long post at Esato.
NOTE : As usual, correct me if I am wrong.
