same question as Okti asked to R1F--- users
is there HSDPA option in network settings and what about the media background bug present in the R1EA031-37?
Posted by SupermansZ24
R1EA037 has the option for 3G under network settings. Do you mean a 3G only option?. I don't know what the media background bug is either.
Under Network settings its listed as
GSM/3G
GSM Only
Posted by Duran
I'm STILL having WMA problems on R1EA037.
The wma files work fine on my PC, but on my k850 they will only play for ~10-30sec (random) and then no other wma/m4a files will work until i reboot the phone.......
Also i've had a bug i've never seen before, the whole "write new sms" screen turned white..i couldn't write any sms.
Reboot needed once again.
-.-

Is this the most popular thread on Esato?
If Rogers released the firmware, then it should be near for o2 because they usually release it pretty quickly?

there was HSDPA option under GSM Only in older firmwares

O2 are normally slow at releasing the firmware due to them doing additional testing to make sure it works ok on the network for der customer's using the k850i handset. hence the reason why i am still on 031. However I am glad thats the case since 031 firmware on my phone has been so stable. Only occasional re-boot which does not bother me.

Yeah, your right. I was thinking about before with the earlier firmwares, they did release them pretty quickly. But it is true that o2 haven't even released the new 037 and they took a while to release 031...but i'll still run update service when my phone has charged, just incase.

how could a reseller launch it before the generic ones (like central europe)

@0kti
I didn't seem to notice it there but something like that rings a bell...

Nah, it's definitely in the Firmware list on the DavinciTeam website:
K850i Red CID52 1202-5694 R1FA035 ROGERS CANADA
Posted by The Barron
does this mean that r1f may only be a network/regional specific fix for the Americas region/Rogers and that the r3 firmware could still be coming?
discuss
Posted by obentou
Dang, R1F on Rogers.. I'm NEVER GOING to brand my handset as ROGERS for an update
Posted by SupermansZ24
I wouldn't recommend anyone update to Rogers firmware unless you need the 30 day warrenty when you purchase the phone.
Rogers locks down their handsets so much that when you debrand it, it feels like your using a totally different phone

I installed the 'Generic' firmware (which I think was called American before) and it works fine on o2 (UK).
Not too sure about R3, maybe that's a revised firmware of the R1F? Doesn't make any sense I know but sure you all know that by now lol.

If it means upgrading from the VERY first firmware of Rogers, I wouldn't mind.
Well, I actually don't intend to debrand my phone any time soon.
But it isn't available on SEUS today when I checked. heh
edit: okay, i do mind the debrand and i never will use a single vision app, but.. BUT, i would assume any branded firmware is stable as the r1dc001 held without the BROD symptom.

Guys, Ill try to update trhough davinci.
The only firmware for k850i, is R1F generic, and the cda is 123456, that means I wont be able to update through seus anymore?
I need a stupid functional phone!
Posted by obentou
Despite changing your CDA to a non-SEUS update-able one, by the time you flash R1F and the next firmware comes out, I am sure XS++ support will come for the K850i and you will be able to change your CDA from there.
Posted by SupermansZ24
I tried putting all the bugs together and hoping other users can point out if they have been corrected with the new firmware. Let me know if I'm missing any.
*BROD (Blue Ring of Death)
*Memory card theme restart
*When battery is fully charged while plugged in, it will read 98%
*Media player background?
*MP4 out of sync (while recording a video or while playing a video?)
Feedback of R1F
*3G only option isn't there. Was available pre-R1EA031 generic firmwares.
*Camera driver hasn't been updated.
Posted by obentou
Hmm, the 98% battery bug I don't have. It always says 100% when fully charged, and I am on R1EA037.
Posted by unknown^S
so wats the major fixes for R1F
is this firmware even necessary?

I have this problem along with a few other users. When I first received the phone, I was puzzled about this and left on for another 6 hours but there was still no change
Posted by Tervel
I really don't understand what's people's issue with the whole 3G/HSDPA option in the menu. For me it doesn't matter if there is an extra option - when I'm on GSM & 3G I get 3G speeds if I'm reception range. Most of the time I stay on GSM only so that I can preserve battery life and I still get EDGE.
Posted by will5
well, I update to R1F generic through davinci, is really a pleasure use that soft, make things really easy.
At least I have a functional phone now, Ill sell and buy another brand phone.
So far, no important changes in firmware, seems the same old...well the same old thing, nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing that worth to wait 2 months and a BROD...

My guess is this release is just a working version of the previous firmware release.
I'm glad 3 are still on 39... it's not perfect but it's been pretty stable. If this new one comes out on 3 you can be sure it's pretty stable I reckon.

nothing on seus yet?

Yeah but previuosly they have R1DA039,IMO the most stable FW (R1DA038 is surely the same FW but for GENERIC and other operators) for K850,anyway if R1FA doesn't make any changes so for what they named it a new FW? :/

OK here is an issue I have found on my vodafone K850i with R1EA031 software on it. I also have a K850i on Orange with R1CA037 software in it, now when I go to write a text message on my Orange one and go into OPTIONS the ADD and ANIMATION it allows me to add one of the funny animations into the text message and send it as a text, on the voda k850i the text message system is different, as now in OPTIONS you no longer have the abillity to add an animation, instead this feature is now on the bottom row of the of the meesage box, but when you add the animation it turns the text into an MMS. Is this specific to the firmware, or is this a voda related issue.
Here is the voda one with the add animation feature highlighted
Here is the same feature on the Orange branded phone.
Posted by Duran
why do you have such an ugly theme?
Posted by richardc1983
It is the voda branding of the phone designed to make u spend more money.
U will also notice that if you send more than one sms in a message so multiple pages, it converts and sends this as an mms also instead of separate messages. This is better because it costs less to send lots of text in an mms than it does to send multiple messages but sometimes my friends dont have mms on there phones so this can be annoying.
I had this on t mobile as soon as i debranded it was gone.
But it was very annoying as i couldnt add animation into sms.

I still have patience with it, and I don't have too much problem with my k850, but as early as december I will buy a new phone - C905.
But it's really fun to think that the K850i was just a stepping stone, enable for SE to create a greater phone. K850i is just a sacrficial suicide for SE...

I don't understand why any company would do this.
They've lost many customers by doing so..
(i'll certainly consider other brands after my k850, while before SE would be 1st choice)

Geez SE was very late in releasing a new FW because of the phones they have announced in last December and now that they have announced 5 new phones....
We can dream on for a R3!
I am afraid SE will forget the K850 too soon like they did with the W900

There is no guarantee of course but if you look at the images of C905 it has more similarity with the successful k800 than the K850.
C905 has
- no touch sensitive buttons.
- two gaming buttons along the 3g cam
- no automatic lens cover
- xenon looks more like a k800 xenon than k850.
- no mirror like surface that attracts smudges and fingerprints
it's just a hunch really
^_^
