Anyone with R1CA037 (not EA037!) recall having an issue with the phone powering off for no reason? In the last week I have found my phone powered off several times.

Guys, I've got some really bad news. The firmware that we've all been willing for will not be what we want it to be. I looked at SE developers page and click on the latest story.
http://developer.sonyericsson[....]y08/p_javaplatform8_update.jsp
It explains about SE java platforms. The K850 is on 8.2, the C902 on 8.3. I read down and found this:
"Note that it is not possible update an existing Sony Ericsson Java Platform 8 (8.0, 8.1, 8.2) phone to 8.3."
I don't know if this means we'll never a major update or this is just something that is irrelevent to the firmware, I'm just holding my breath
Posted by naveensiva
wht does that open GL denoted underneath k850 mean ???
Posted by harry20larry
I dunno, i just read the article, it might be a feature only available in 8.3 phones

I am running R1CA037, which I flashed back to my phone after a BROD on the R1EA031 firmware. I have since then not experienced any of these problems. What you've seen is what I think is something that happens a couple of times before the phone goes completely unresponsive (BROD). From reading this thread, it seems that also the R1EA037 has the BROD problem. R1CA037 is pretty stable, but slower in many ways. A newer firmware is coming soon, and we're all hoping it addresses the BROD issue, so if I were you, I'd wait for it and see what experiences people on this forum have with it.

Is Sony Ericsson announced any release date for new official K850 firmware ?
Posted by mr versatile
It is clear to see tha sony have already prepaired a new firmware for us how good its going to be is the question personnally i dont care about the c902 just fix the mp4 .a good camera drive, battery meter and other little issue and i will be fine with k850i like would always say and i will keep saying it if they dont fix the 850i problems there sales with the c902 will be a disaster we are the maker and we are the breakers in terms of promoting there products SO COME ON SONY LET SEE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN UP TO SURPISE US WE WOULD LIKE TO BE. lol

oh boy... relax people
1. firmware is firmware
2. java platform is java (J2ME) platform implemented in firmware
firmware IS NOT BASED ON java platform
http://developer.sonyericsson.com
this isn't site of SE developers. this is site for non-SE developers which want to create applications for SE phones

Good afternoon. One of my friends contacted orange upgrades to upgrade to a k850h. Orange responded with. Sorry orange have discontinued the k850i with the release of the c902 next monday. Shops may have them but there is no more stock and we are not getting the phone back in stock.

So it's evident that the reason why there is no K850 upgrade yet is because they are going to release another cyber-shot phone.
Come to think of it, a good upgrade for K850 might seem a minus for C902 sales...
damn....

Like the C series are are better cybershot than the k850 in the first place.
No xenon, i mean come on

How about an online petition?

I don't know why SE is making so much marketing mistakes!
They have annonced too much phones only 1 month after the release of the K850,this announcement was made wayyy too early, the K850 new FWs have a virus called BROD and they are still not finding a way to kill it...
In conclusion: People who wanted to buy a K850 but saw the C902 advertising preffer to wait, many of them are beginning to think about buying a N82 or N96 because the K850 is attacked by BROD and that it could be the same for next A200 phones,SE will not release so soon a stable FW BROD free because they are working on next phones...It's a vicious ring that can only be negative for SE,unless they respect after sales contract toward actual users and do a brilliant FW BROD free, this is the only way for them to gain a positive point in the market
Posted by mr versatile
SONY will not gain point as i said we can make or break these people that c902 is going to be problems just waite and see i am not impress with the little pics i have seen either so there is going to be problems just waite when the threads for this phone starts but to get our upgrade firmware we will get it but how long must we suffer to watch this phone try to take precident on the market O PLEASE SONY MAKE SOME SENSE HERE LET THE TWO PHONE MAKE THERE WAY LAUNCH OUR SOFT WARE THEY ARE BOTH SONY ANY WAY WHATS THE BIG #$%%^ DEAL ............................................ ( MIZZLE CAN YOU SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS THIS SITUATION FOR US PLEASE)

Online petitions aren't worth the paper they're not written on.
If we can find some way of doing a class action then that might buck their ideas up.... not sure what it'd be on, but I'm sure they are obliged to support the phone and fix faults such as BROD for a reasonable time after release - especially as people rely on their phones and so to have it turn into a blue ringed brick when out and about is costly to business and personal relationships and safety.
Luckily I was close to home when the BROD hit and had a spare phone to stick the sim in.
Instead of monetary compensation, I think we should insist that SE replace any K850 with a N95 - I'm not sure I'd accept another SE phone as compensation as I've lost all trust in them.

Guys is the G900 using A200 platform??? If it is then I will be very satisfied if the next k850i firmware can do such a thing, after looking at this G900 video.

i think g900 is UIQ platform, correct me if i am wrong, but k850 isnt,so we will never be able to see k850 have such operations...

so... what do you suggest?
I know, maybe we can kidnap some SE-developers and force them to write new firmware!

Hey,
BROD stands for Blue Ring of Death, a random bug on the K850.
If you have a brod, only the keyboard lights up with the camera light when turning on the phone. A BROD can still occur to any firmware out there right now, so almost every k850 user is waiting for a new (stable and fast) firmware to come out.

The last statement is 100% incorrect. BROD can ONLY occur on firmwares R1EA031 and above. R1DA038/39 are the last BROD safe firmwares, however they have low battery life reportedly. I'm sticking with R1CA037 and haven't had a BROD since I flashed back to it over 3 months ago, I did however have BROD with 031 (twice). BROD does not affect 100% of the K850's out there, but if you've had it with one firmware, chances are that you'll have it with the next or again with the same until SonyEricsson fixes the issue.

I've been checking SEUS everyday for an update but nothing yet:(. I really hope the new firmware fixes a lot of issues, this phone is just so damn buggy even with the latest firmware.

Why do we spend time on this phone any more the 11 of july the 3g iphone is to be released and by by to this brand a have supported and talked god about the last 11 years goodbye
Posted by Tervel
Because I wouldn't touch an iPhone considering the X1 is around the corner...
Posted by CruSifiXken
yeah, but the Iphone at least provides the features it tell the user!
SE promises a lot, but the K850i is the perfect example...
Posted by aloe
Why x1 try htc they produce it for se its a htc diamond with se brand on it . Se is going for basic mobile this days
Posted by Tervel
I'd have to disagree with you - the X1 is is Fully developed by SE and built by HTC.

this thread is not between HTC or Apple is for K850 FIRMWARE UPGRADE...

Well, that in itself really isn't the hardest thing in the world for Apple to do, considering its feature set is nothing compared to K850.

My first BROD was with R1CA029 , so it isn't incorrect, I was talking about my personal experience too, and im sure it could happen to all firmware's released out now.

That's sad, I got my K850 just to realize that S.E. made ourselves some kind of guinea pigs testing this phone for them.
I mean, I really love all the features but simply I can't stand paying US$500 to have a bricked phone with no reason at all (BROD) or simply buy a phone for X price today and have it discontinued just a couple of months later...
Come on, S.E. is not doing things right.
To make this thing clear LG surpassed S.E. in % of selling phones...
S.E. is clearly going the same way of Motorola, correct me if I'm wrong.
Posted by obentou
I think that way too. Same old designs, and it's unfortunate their flagship phone failed so miserably. We cannot expect SE to continue to have new phones shipped with so many bugs. It may be OK back then since so many new things were being added like improved cameras, colour displays, etc, but we're in a new age of technology now. Things like this simply cannot flop so easily.
