K850 Firmware Overview

yes, i think its true. k850 have the same cpu as k800/k810.

its a arm11 runing in 220mhz

Posted by Hiron
I've got from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ARM_architecture

Look at ARMv5TEJ Architecture on ARM9 Class, it stated 220MIPS @ 200Mhz.

I didn't see 220Mhz ARM9 Architecture being produced. Maybe mobile-review mixed up with 220 million instruction per second?

JAce Benchmark on C902 reported ARM9 at 199Mhz. Because the Mhz speed it's not accurate but ARM9 usage can't be wrong, I think we can conclude it as ARMv5TEJ 200Mhz too, because no other versions of ARM9 can be fit with this.

More info on http://www.arm.com

ARM11 is not used in Sony-Ericsson K series.

ARM11 is used in latest Nokia N-Series, such as N95 and N82. The speed is around 400-665Mhz, which is too fast for 200Mhz Sony Ericsson.

ARM11 that running at 200Mhz NEVER produced.

Look at this JAce benchmark on C902i, it stated ARM9 processor:
http://www.jbenchmark.com/pho[....]yEricsson%20C902&benchmark=ace

Compare it with N95 Results. It stated ARM11 processor:

http://www.jbenchmark.com/pho[....]sp?D=Nokia%20N95&benchmark=ace

I'm sorry if I wrong. Everybody makes a mistakes

Thanks,

Hiron

I stand corrected, I think you are right. I hate the fact that SE does not disclose this info officially, resulting in all these conflicting reports. After doing more research there are all sorts of benchmarks and guesses ranging almost 100mhz in difference, but ARM9 @ 200 makes most sense.

Which would be the best firmware to with then? As I'm going to need to flash again.

Woke up to BROD today!!!

I have noticed that there is a red flashing light underneath the on/off button on the top...
Any idead what that means???

The Red Flashing light normaly means that the battery is flat, or that the phone has encounted a problem with its boot system.

GhostFreak,

The Generic for the uk I beleive is

1201-9794 (Which is the velvet blue version) Im sure this work on the quick silver and green versions too. But not sure

I hope this helps.

Let me know how you get on.

I have 2 of these phones, and while charging one of them I woke up to the same thing, brod and the red light under the power switch, I changed the battery and it came right back on.

Try this, for your username instead of putting whatever@yahoo.co.uk just put the 'whatever' part. Sounds strange but it's what I had to for my Virgin Media Email address..althought i still get the 'server not found' error message regularly

I gave up with K850.
Yesterday my K850 having so annoying (perhaps hardware) problems :
- D-pad down acting as touch key "Back"
- Key No. 5 also acting as touch key "Back"
- And sometimes D-pad left also acting the same way.
The funny thing is, the above keys/buttons also vibrate when pressed, the same way as the "real" touch key "Back, as I set the vibration tactile for this key.

It was charging when it went into BROD, must be the boot system...

Maybe I have killed the battery then?

Yahoo doesn't support POP3 & SMTP
so you can't use K850i built in Email application for Yahoo

Hmmm 26th of May and no new FW :/ Why so long? Maybe they really make a BIIIG Update ... Thats why they wait so long to release it :/ PRevious FWs were released in month each ... Now we are waiting almost 1,5 month ... so it must be a reason of it ... SE Come ON !

Lol good point..

Well I thought i would do a instal from davinci.

I have a o2 quicksilver phone which is currenlty on R1EA031.

I updated the phone to Customised UK R1EA037

Everything went perfect. No problems at all.

Switched the phone on and again no probs. However then i noticed something very strange.

Over the network bars where i normaly get G or E , I got nothing. I checked all the settings and i couldnt find any where to switch it on like you could in the old SE phones.

Now when i connected to the internet, the G came back like normal, when i disconnected the G went again.

I tried a Orange sim, T-Mobile and it was all the same.

So i reverted back to the O2 R1EA031 and its all back to normal again.

Has any one else had the problem?

I can also advise people that when using o2 or t-mobile sim card, I normaly get a H for HSDPA. When i was using R1EA037 I only got 3G symbol and not the H. Even tho I knew i was in a HSDPA Area.

When reverting back to R1EA031, I got my H Back

It's always been a waiting game with SE, only thing is, it's not really a game. Since going back to original unbranded 037, no problems what so ever have occured

yes you can, try this setting
incoming server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
outgoing server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

other way: you can download and install YahooGo!

i'm in indonesia and use TELKOMSEL GSM provider and use APN: telkomsel

One more thing, go to YahooMail via your fav browser on PC.

Go to Settings --> POP3 Settings, and Activate POP3 Support. Just read the manual there.

In some Yahoo region, you need to pay to activate this service.

Umm, as the FW trend is 2 months around middle, I could expect the FW release is about middle of June, after C902 release.

I think right now they are concentrating with C902 FW.

@maguwo,
I'm from Indonesian too, and right now using TelkomselFlash. The YahooMail on my K850i works perfectly!

Thanks,

I've never had a 3G sign unless i connect to the internet.
Only when i select PS & CS as preferred service, under data communication, i always get the 3G sign.

But what's the big deal? It goes 3G when i use internet, and AFAIK, setting it on CS only saves battery life..so!

Now my handset turns itself on randomly and won't even start up sometimes.

Gonna just have to wait for a new firmware while using a w910i (hopefully arrive tomorrow).

Nope, it doesn't work at all.
YahooGo! does the job perfectly.
here in Pakistan only GMail working with the built-in email client.

I can't see those options in my yahoo account.

p.s. AFAIK hotmail too doesn't work as it doesn't support POP3 server...
has anybody got it work with the K850i-email???

Don't mean to stray too far from the thread subject but I wanted to give a suggestion for everyone who wants email on their k850. One often overlooked fact is that the K850 has full MS Exchange ActiveSync support for instant email delivery. There is one free online exchange provider that I know and use and it's called mail2web.com I simply forward my gmail and other mail I want to my mail2web email address and I get them nearly instantaneously. Just a thought.

Posted by Hiron
@buntoo,

You would not see it if you using YahooMail Beta.

Switch back for a while to YahooMail Classic.

Press option button at right upside.

Then you will see an option called "web access & POP forwarding."

Just enable that and try again on your mobile

If it still doesn't exist in Yahoo!Classic, then I give up.

For information, in YahooMail! Indonesia, this settings exist and disabled by default.

And I can send and receive Yahoo email using my K850i right now. It works perfectly!

Thanks,

Hiron

I'm just gonna have to wait for this handset's firmware to be updated to fix this annoying bug, it's on at the minute but I use it at work and such so don't want to take the risk in thinking 'oh it's working now' then boom it's down again.

Posted by buntoo
@ Hiron

No, i can't see "web access & POP forwarding" in mail options while i'm using Classic mail.
I've searched the net and found that it supports POP3 but it isn't free and for the premium users only who have upgraded to "Mail Plus". @£11.99
r u using yahoo mail-plus?

Yahoo says
The ability to access Yahoo! Mail via a POP3 email client (such as Outlook or Outlook Express) is only available to customers of our premium Yahoo! Mail Plus service.

If you have not purchased the Yahoo! Mail Plus service, you will be unable to retrieve messages via an email client.

Can u plz tell us in a bit detail how to get it work?

That's what I said before. In some region, you need to pay.

In my Yahoo!Indonesia, the service is free!

You can try register at YahooMail Indonesia, and get the address like this: youremail@yahoo.co.id instead of yahoo.com

Or you can try Gmail, it is free!

If you only want to use your existing Yahoo (maybe because it's important well-known address among your friends,) sorry, I can't help you :: sad ::

Try Tervel's way instead

Posted by Tervel
Buntoo - you misunderstood me. mail2web is just another free online email provider so you'll need to sign up with them just like you have done with yahoo (or gmail if you have a gmail account). The difference is that most (if not all) other online email providers are either online only or pop3, with the occasional IMAP support (Gmail has that now). mail2web is exchange based so instead of having to schedule a pull every so many minutes, the K850 can have activeSync "push" the emails as they arrive in your mail2web account. Once you create that account, just have either All email or just a set of rules in your yahoo email to forward to the mail2web account. This way you don't have to tell everyone about a new email address. Hope this makes sense

I must be the biggest sucker for punishment in the world... I just got my phone back from the repair center (after BROD), and what's the first thing I do? I flash it.

However, to my surprise, the repair center had already loaded R1EA037. Still, I went ahead with the Sony Ericsson Update Service.

I'm not sure if this is a new feature, but the software allowed me to "continue anyway" after telling me that the latest software was loaded on there already. Does this mean that if the phone BRODs again, I can now just use the SE Update Service to flash it?

No, unforyunately not mate. If or should i say WHEN you get your next BROD you CAN NOT use SE Update service to flash it. Would be a whole lot simpler if you could eh?!
Im on my 3rd phone after 2 BRODS so if i get another one i get an upgraded phone for free. Any ideas what i should get? Doesnt have to be a SE

Well, WHEN I get my next BROD, I'll use that Kulankedi thing to fix it this time... I ain't waiting over a month while my phones goes to the repair center again.

The sad part of this is all is that the ONLY reason I got the K850 was because my past Sony Ericsson phones had sold me completely, and I was absolutely certain that the K850 would not let me down. How wrong I was...

Unless they sort this out with a new firmware, I'm done with SE for good.

unfortunately u can't forward yahoo/hotmail emails to mail2web.com.

Hey,

Im not sure if that actually helps, but BROD is completely random it could happen to anyone with any firmware, even with your trick i suppose

Only the last 2 firmwares not any of the ones before those.

Posted by obentou
Although I haven't had the BROD, I find that the phone randomly reboots when you fiddle around with themes and or wallpapers on the memory card. It seems like there's something wrong with how the phone is accessing external memory, since it also reverts to default themes/wallpapers if the startup media is on the memory card.
