Does that really have something to do with the BROD? I really don't think so.
Fortunately, no reports of BROD happening on R1EA037 YET, hopefully there will be none.

even my k750 rebooted once on one of the final fws...
Not such a big deal if it doesn't happen too often and wont give us BROD.
Personally only had 1 reboot with my k850

Howdy? I've read that you've become an Administrator or moderator or sumthin.
I'm glad to hear about that R3 thing. I knew you ahd it right the first time.
^_^ Are you sure we can finally alter the flash menu just like the C902? And how about face detection?
Just want to confirm...

What is your CDA? I'm also on Western Europe unbranded, with CDA 1202-5694, and was able to update today. If you have a different CDA, you might want to change it with kulankendi...
Thanks for your reply.
I overrusshed thing, my phone said there was no update but when connected to SEUS there was.
I updated to the latest FM now and its a bit faster.

C702, C902, W760 and W980 all use the R3 firmware, and three of those are coming in shops within the next month or two. I guess you can expect the firmware update for K850/W890/W910 to be out a bit before that.
DUDE! This news is like a wife loosing 40lbs in 2mths and ready to wear HOT sexy lingerie & dance dirty!!!! (sorry I'm proud of my wife lately).
OK so my K850i can get an update - so I'll unbrand then! However I'm looking forward to buying the W760i as an upgrade. Upgrade you all say? Yes, Walkman lineup has tended to be built more solid, perform better on day to day usuage, and has better battery life due to more frugal usuage of power. I loose the 5MP camera & the VGA video calling cam - but I don't know anyone to use it with (My wife hates using hers on her Shine). SO, I'm getting 2 of them, one for the wife to replace her Shine (no themes, hates the phone now), and one for myself. I also gain a GPS chip, Tracker app, TrackID (branded lossed it), SENSE-Me app, and slider form facter along with STEREO SPEAKERS!
I've tried to use the following MAJOR tip on my branded K850i ....
http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=111542
and although I see a new icon when I plug in my HPM-75's (phone with headset icon) it STILL rings loud on the outside speaker, even though its auto in Silent profile.
PS Does anyone have the SE Tracker App extracted successfully from the w580i please? I'd like to give it a try before waiting for the W760i.
Thanks.

Well, just had a reboot with R1EA037. Previously I only had another reboot with R1EA031. Both when the phone was just sitting on my desk, doing nothing. Suddenly it vibrates, the keyboard lights up, and reboots. Could this mean that BROD is still possible/probable with R1EA037?
Am afraid yes, since the CID is still 52 not 53. We are still at risk.
That has nothing to do with BROD, restarts, or how a FW functions. That's just security SE builds into their FWs to prevent anyone from tinkering with it.
I have a question for you guys that upgraded to 37. When you check software info, is there anything written next to memory card? In two areas next to memory card I used to have numbers in CDA style format ex: 1234-5678 but now I have: no file found. I wonder if SE tweaked that because the card was the culprit...
Posted by G-Izzat
Vlad,
mine has the numbers beside it. Probably you've flashed your phone before using kulankendi or davinci or something?

Wait so theres a new firmware coming out for the K850 when the new SE phones get released ?
Its all a bit unclear lol !

I still have numbers next to my memory card and i have flashed my phone through davinci and then updated via SEUS, numbers still there

Still no update for ASIA-LEVAN. anybody manage to update?
Posted by Mizzle
R3 will be for K850 as well, yes. The A2 phones will all use the same firmware revisions with only slight changes in the firmwares.
Anyway, as someone said, I told you that R3 was coming back in January or February, but seems I was way too early on spilling the beans on that one.
sniper_supra,

I took out the memory card when I got BROD last time, reinstalled the fw through davinci and haven't reinserted it until now (after upgrading to 37). I was testing the theory that BROD and the restarts are somehow related to the card. I haven't experienced any restarts after my latest re-flash but then again, I didn't experience any restarts the first 2-3 weeks after my initial upgrade to 31 and still got BROD. Hope 37 is a bit more stable...
@Mizzle, how positive are you that a FW similar to the ones in the upcoming phones is in the works for K850? Is this something that has been confirmed, rumored, or just wishful thinking?

The following firmwares with revision R1EA037 are on EMMA;
VFE-LIVE-B, ADRIATIC, AMERICA, APAC-ANZ, BALTIC, CENTRAL-EUROPE, FRANCE, HUTCH_HK, NORDIC, S-E-EUROPE, TAIWAN & WESTERN-EUROPE.
Hope that helps you guys.
Vlad83,
Well,
hasn't really started segregating the A2 software yet, so it'll be very much like the upcoming ones.

can you spill the beans on any of the tasty features we can expect with R3?
Posted by gordonowusu
For those who have updated to R1EA037 check wheather the menu speed has increased when playing music via bluetooth headsets like hbhds970. As fr as i can remember, its wery sluggish but a bit fast with the wired headsets.

Mizzle,
How soon should we expert it for ASIA-LEVAN?
It seems we are lacking here this time. We were lucky to have R1EA031 the very day it was released.
thanks for your inside info mizzle.

@the barron
Three main features that you can see from the c902:
1. New menu styles, not only new icons, but animated launching effects and you will be able arrange the menu in linear and spiral forms
2. Improved media library, you will now be able to access games and rss feeds through the media player
3. Face detection on cyber shot models.
more info here http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_c902-review-223p3.php

TV and online video will also be added to the media application, as well as TV-out support (dunno if this goes for K850 as well).

I will wait for a while (3months) just to see if K850 will be given this facelift. if not bye bye K850.
My hopes for K850 is very minimal especially its slow proccessor. i wonder if it can handle all these features.
I sometimes believe SE used K850 as a test for their A200 or DB3150 platform that's why its having all these issues.
All hope is not lost yet. lets keep our fingers crossed.

thats one thing i do agree with, SE should start releasing changelogs for firmware instead of us having to guess and create our own

By the time SE fix K850 into something useful, most of it's users, myself included, will be already bored with it.
Posted by The Barron
maybe so but it'd be nice to see what they at least think they're doing to the phone
Posted by jcgibbins
so let me get things right, there is a release of 037 with updates as 037 came out before 031 did it not ??
And what do these new Sony Ericsson phones look like they on there site ??
That phone looks sexy !! Nice and thin aswell, might have to be my second se phone

my R1DA038 has just died :/
2 hours ago another random reboot caused something very similar to BROD: when I tried to turn on my K850, it stopped at the moment when SE logo appeared on the screen - I tried to fix it by removing the battery and finally (after few trials) it turned on!
then I decided to do a master reset - the phone turned off and now when I try to turn it on, the only thing I see is: "PLEASE WAIT" and after few secs the screen turns black!
anybody had same prob?
Posted by The Barron
@jasiek
when the please wait comes on, just leave it, that's the phone reconfiguring itself, same as it does after a complete reflash and when you turn it on for the first time, the please wait bar doesnt seem to move because its the same colour as the background. just leave it and it should be ok
Posted by jasieq
@The Barron
hey, I had been waiting for half an hour, and then the screen became black... then I decided to wait for another few minutes and it was still black... then removed the batery for a while, then plugged the charger - and what I see now is that the phone starts charging and after few secs it freezes...
WTF?
Posted by sblant
a new firmware for W910 is out, nothing new for K850?

Power OFF. Remove Batt, Remove M2 card. Unplug Charger. Wait 10mins. Ask yourself if your batt was fully charged before beginning procedure??
Plug back in BATT, Launch SEUS on PC.
Follow instructions for connecting into SEUS mode for firmware update. BE patient as possible, but DON"T plug out your battery without powering off your phone FIRST or plugging out the USB cable during completion of SEUS. Let us know if it worked/not.

@Prom1
luckily didn't have to reflash
the M2 card caused the problem - it needed a format
now everything works fine

It's either mwarner is still waiting to post a proper update review on this 037 FW FIX as to detail and out line what it have fix or what it did not fix so we can understand actually, how stable is this FW FIX going to be because it is not really a new FW its a BROD solution

Added R1EA037 to the first post. As many of you know, I do not own a K850, having a Nokia N82 instead, so I must rely on Esato users to keep the information in the first post up to date. If you notice any changes to the software, PM me and I will try to add the additional information to the first post. I don;t check Esato too regularly any more, so please be patient if I do not get back to you quickly!

With your phone out of standby put your finger over the sensor. After a while the screen will dim slightly. Remove your finger and it will go brighter again.
It's a nice feature but it doesn't dim enough IMO. (should be configurable)
