There are other issues i have noticed when viewing the media player in landscape mode but they are just things like when you lock the keypad, the keypad locked screen is out of proportion. I have had the K850i for about a month now and I got the 'operation failed' bug on my messages a few days ago. I did a master reset and was fine for a few days but now I have the 'operation failed' error on my applications and games. It's really annoying, btw i have R1CA029 and cannot wait for a firmware update!

It's available, just not through the SEUS. Service centres have it. Look at the first post in this thread.
Not all service centers have the new firwmare as of yet.
SE are very slow in releasing the firmware at present. To be honest, before you do anything, i would check what firmware version they have.
R1CA037 seems to be new phone dependent at the moment. I have only heard of a few people taking it to service points and getting it reflashed with R1CA037.
Also not all networks have approved R1CA037 at present.
@CruSifiXken, What network is your phone on? Or is it generic

generic

why doesnt one of the people with the new firmware just rip it off their phone and post it for us like the motorola forums do, or at least get a copy of it from asian service centers, pay a few bucks and the employee would be more than happy to provide a cd with the update for us.

Dear All
Also guys what are some other sites that allow you to unlock, not just Sony Ericsson phones by the way? I know of wotanserver but thats SE only. I know of Top Sony again for SE and Total Multi Server for lots of phones but is there any other ones out there as I'd like to shop around and preferably unlock new Nokia models, Samsung, and LG phones especially. Any information regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I sent an email to SE to find out when the Firmware would be released.
Here is the response.
"Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Call Centre regarding a Software release for the Sony Ericsson K850i.
With regards to your enquiry, there is a New Software due for release on the 10th of December for the Sony Ericsson K850i.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again for further help and support."
I have replied to them asking what version of software it will be... So i'll let you know when i get a response.

Good work Lee. That was a good idea. I can't wait until 10th December, and I hope the firmware is a new one, higher than R1CA037 because from what i've heard, that firmware isn't exactly great either...

R1CA037 fixes some major problems only(as described in the first page of the subject). It's more an emergency update(if it's correct to say this)because those major problems are connected with its main selling point,so it was urgent to fix them!I also hope that the newest firmware will solve at least 80% of its problems!Otherwise,K850i is a very good phone with lots of capabilitites in its segment an in my opinion it's the most intelligent non-smartphone i have ever seen!It needs only some bug fixes to unleash its power!

Even if you have the current firmware with you what are you going to use to upload it to your phone? There are no softwares supporting the K850 yet.

Guys, what the hell is Update Services from SE is for? Isnt it to update your firmware?
Posted by Sebby
@student
Yes.

So what the hell is ryanchg talking about???
Is there are any way to find out what firmware will it try to upload?!

hi guys i too have been have some problems with the R1CA029 software, one being the mistiming of the flash and camera.
I was wandering if anybody had a problem with calling. I've had this one rare problem where when some1 calls me or i call them then their voice becomes so low you can barley hear it. I have to switch to speakerphone to be able to hear it.
Also this next question is not a problem but i was just wandering, I have this blue box next to my signal bar which usually shows 3G inside it but today its been showing a H inside, just wanted to know what that meant?
Thanks guys,
Gupster.

@ryanchg
As bezlightyear said, DavinciTeam supports the K850i now. Folks on SEUniverse have used it successfully to unbrand their 029 firmware though there are currently no generic 037 firmware images available yet. I would try it out now with a branded 037 firmware, but unfortunately forgot my DCU-60 at home and am traveling for the next two weeks.

He's (quite rightly) saying that even if someone with a generic handset could rip the firmware off, we wouldn't be able to use it.

Hi, when will this become GA on orange? I have a sim free phone but with an orange PAYG sim card in. Can i flash it to 37? Im still on 29, tried to update using the service but said it (29) was the latest version
Posted by Sebby
If it's a SIM-free phone, the fact that you have an Orange SIM card in it is irrelevant.
Posted by Gupster
well it seems i found out what the H in the blue 3G box is. Apparently its a faster 3G, they call it 'turbo 3G'or 'Hyper 3G'.
again they said do a master reset to fix my speaker problem, which did not work, or wait for the dec 10th update or send it bak to them.
i believe ill wait for the update. fingers crossed.
Gupster.

H = HSDPA, which is indeed faster. It's 1.8Mbps or 3.6Mbps (and also 7.2 and 14.4, but the phone doesn't support either of these).
HSUPA refers to Upload speeds and these will increase next year, but the phone doesn't support that at all.
HSPA refers to both (taking away the D and U for download/upload).
Posted by Sebby
Talking of the "3G" and "H" symbols, I've seen the latter on my handset with R1CA029. I read that it was new in R1CA037, but obviously it's not...
Posted by alanjrobertson
@Sebby - from the other posts I've read it appears that the H appears on some networks with 029 (mainly O2 I believe, certainly doesn't on T-Mobile) but with 037 it is more consistent across all networks - still waiting for the update so haven't been able to see for myself yet.

@alanjrobertson
I'm on T-Mobile and I've seen "H" on 029, but only once.
Posted by jmcomms
The firmware doesn't matter, H only shows on some networks (e.g. Vodafone), even if the network definitely has HSDPA in that area. I created the confusion because when I got my phone updated by SE HQ, I happened to put a Vodafone SIM in first to test it! I've said that elsewhere on this thread, but at 30+ pages I'm not surprised it's been missed.
It's either down to the way the network identifies HSDPA as being enabled (such that the phone doesn't show it at the top), or perhaps it doesn't actually work (which would be a more serious issue) on some networks. I'm yet to do a speed test on Orange (UK) to see if I'm getting 3.5G/HSDPA speeds where I know I would with another handset.
Another odd thing is that when I am on the train and go into some rather long tunnels, the phone always drops to 0 bars and the G switches to E. Now, considering there's no coverage on any network in the tunnel (except GSM-R for the railway), I find it rather unlikely that there's any EDGE coverage there. In fact, I know there isn't.
EDGE coverage on Orange is pretty abysmal - and when you change from GPRS to EDGE, you'll often find such a long delay before any data flows that you might as well have stuck with GPRS.

Thanks for clarifying, Jonathan - I think between this and another thread discussing the same issue (http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=157780) I got a bit mixed up!

Have just updated my unbranded UK K850i using the Update Service program on the phone.
Have now got firmware R1CA037, previously had 029.
Hope this helps people.
Martin
Posted by aremaboy
So R1CA037 has been released officially from the built-in FOTA feature in the phone? That's a huge news..

Finally, some good news about the firmware.thx

How big is the update file, Martin? 3 MB? 6 MB? FOTA seems just work in certain area..
Posted by AndyXS
Just fyi.
No updated firmware for the K850I via FOTA in germany using a free and unbranded device.
Posted by marinedisco
I am also not able to update mine from the fota server.
Posted by Mike Graham
Can confirm that the O2 firmware update is on SEUS too.
R1CA037 is now my software version, will see what bugs I can find
Posted by aremaboy
Come on guys, check SEUS now and report here. Don't forget to include of which CDA your K850i is. Can't wait to get K850i with this new firmware.
Posted by Sebby
I tried the SEUS with my factory unbranded (SIM-free) handset from CPW UK, but nothing.
However, I have just successfully updated to R1CA037 using the built-in FOTA feature. The firmware file downloaded in approximately 45 seconds (1,478KB) and installed in 5-10 minutes.
Thanks for the heads up; I'd have never found this out.
Posted by CruSifiXken
I've downloaded the FOTA update...
But when it's "installing" the phone keeps like...starting up...
the key's light up, and the silent alarm (trrr-trrr, dont know how to say it differently
Is this normal??
Posted by philyau
just done mine, on v37 now on o2.
Posted by CruSifiXken
It appears FOTA killed my phone...
Posted by Sebby
@CruSifiXken
Mine restarted a couple of times, but then settled on a screen that shows it's applying the update.
It looks like you're going to have to get yours flashed at a service centre.

It looks like you're going to have to get yours flashed at a service centre.
That's the shittest thing ever, if a 'feature' broke my phone, I'd be livid.. mostly because I'd be too lazy to ever get it fixed.

Thats good news. Ok I have an O2 branded K850i and an operation failed error when I try to access games or applications. I was planning on returning my K850i for a new one however, this firmware update should do the trick shouldn't it? A master reset wouldn't fix the problem now lets see if this firmware update does. I will update this post when the firmware update is completed...
...I still get the operation failed message on games and applications after updating the firmware, now i'm going to try a master reset as a desparate measure...
...Oh and btw my phone just decided to turn itself off twice in five minutes after updating...
...Nope master restet after firmware update didn't work either, looks like I am going to have to return my phone after all...I'm having a great day today, just realized i don't have any proof of purchase I hope O2 understand...Has anybody else returned a K850i to O2? How long do they take and how fussy are they?

@deez
Doing a firmware update yourself is always a risk.
Posted by Shadowness99
Ive been following this thread for a while now to hear news on the new firmware. On hearing that other UK o2 peeps were updating their phones, I decided to have a go.
The built-in update feature says that i already have the latest firmware (029), so thats no help
The SEUS software doesnt really do anything! I click on my phone model, then follow the onscreen instructions, and nothing! How long are you supposed to hold down the bloody c button!?
Posted by Terminatorak
Lol, yep the built in updater didn't work for me either, I should have mentioned that and you have to hold the 'c' button down until it says release the 'c' button. Took about 20 seconds for me. Bit of an akward button to hold down too.

There's no point trying the SEUS at the moment as it's not on there.
It's strange that it says you have the latest firmware using the FOTA feature. Are you sure you don't already have 037?
Posted by Terminatorak
It is on SEUS. I have an O2 branded K850i and updated from 29 to 37 about an hour ago through SEUS.

100% sure I have 029.
At no point using SEUS does it say that its downloading an update or anything, it just gets to that screen with the instructions on, and nothing happens.
Posted by aremaboy
Congratulations for the update, guys. Although I have no K850i, I am really happy to get this great news. Just 1500 kb update? That's so little in size for a bug remedy, uh?
Posted by Shadowness99
Ok, now after I hold down c, my comps asking for SEMCBOOT download drivers. But it cant find it on the net or on the disc!!
Posted by marinedisco
I have a unbranded 850i with 29 and have tried fota and seus, but I am not able to update either.
Just sends the message "no new updates available" or something like that.
Posted by kjao
for FOTA update, does the phone need to be at full charge?
Posted by aremaboy
You'd better have the phone fully-charged at least 80% to avoid troubles.
