@Sebby

I use http://www.fjsoft.at/en/

Have a look. Its a great piece of software.

You get to see how warm the phone is and how warm your battery is when charging.

Give it a go

Hello ,
saving the messages on the memory card is useless cause there is no option to backup the messages to the memory card and restore them again.
what happen with me , i reflashed my phone at the service center then when i inserted the memory card there is nothing my whole messages disappeared

I had that problem too when I exchanged my phone - copied all messages from phone > memory card and when I put the memory card in the new phone there was nothing there!

Hi

I just called SE cos my camera shutter won't open. (Known bug)
They told me that the K850i firmware for 02 handsets would be out in 7 - 14days and that it was firmware version R1CA038.
I don't really want to send my phone back as i dont see the point of getting a handset which is gonna be the same....

Hopefully this version will sort lots of problems out!!
heres hoping eh....

I think the idea is more to have a larger memory space for lots of MMS messages etc rather than having the ability to transfer them from card to phone etc.

SE missed a trick there.

If thats for O2 then can we assume the unbranded SE software will appear sooner via the software update mechanism ?

Posted by lwrighty
If you have a sim free handset then i guess you can have it now.
The guy at SE said its been out a few weeks but 02 have to approve it first.

HURRY UP 02!!

Because they are taking so long it makes SE look bad when they have a fix for the known errors..

Should i have got an iPhone???

Posted by joemax
R1CA038 appears not be available yet via software update.

If it was I'm sure someone would have posted the news

Posted by kotsianis7
Hi guys,i'm from Greece and here,SE doesn't have any clue about the availability of a firmware update...So,could anyone phone or e-mail SE in their country to see when the new firmware for unbranded phones will be out?Thank you in advance for your replies...

Yes I have the 037 build and can't say re the shutter as I never experienced the issue on any of the three I've had.

Phone has turned itself off a couple of times while in my jacket pocket (no pressure applied to it at all) and has magically restarted itself on occasion.

The BT audio seems starnge too... repeats itself (not an echo) and crackles a lot. Need to test with some of my head sets to make sure its not just with my TomTom

@joemax
I have the crash/reboot issue whilst the phone is in my pocket. I wonder if it's a hardware issue. I hope not.

@Sebby

I thought you were getting a replacement handset???

Cheers

Posted by Sebby
I am. The problem is that all 4 handsets have had this issue, and they've all had R1CA029. Joemax has the later software, which obviously hasn't fixed the issue. It could just be that it's not fixed in that version, but it could equally be a hardware fault, so a replacement won't necessarily help.

There's nothing to up date to yet AFAIK

Posted by Ricky D
How do I get the newer firmware without SEUS? None of the major flashing clients (wotan, davinci etc) have support yet..

AFAIK it isnt even possible to get this new firmware from a service centre, i think its just being put on new phones for the time being

Hi, I got my new K850i from Netherlands BellCompany, so it is unbranded phone. Mine is 029 070922 version Velvet Blue, is there UK has Illuminated green unbranded version? And I read this post a lot, but there was no mentioned about...

WMA file play failed sometimes when I play MP3 file 2 or 3 hours, and try to open WMA file. It can be solved by restart phone.

Dusts are infiltrated inside of shutter cover glass, it is really supprise because this is new phone that I bought just 3 days ago...!
I tried to clean up but no luck, so I strongly tapped the glass cover couples of times and it disappered. But I'm worrying because it should happen again!

And another one, the touch softkey, is it works clearly at all times? Sometimes it doesn't respond. I think this isn't from hardware, it is probabely software malfunction.

There is no clock when sleep mode, but you can see clock by pressing volume key. It is annoying though.

Morning Everyone.

Has anyone else noticed a minor glitch with the SE software. When i recieve an SMS with my K850I connected the SE software disconnects from the phone.

So it becomes a bit of a pain to reply.

Has anyone noticed that when MicroSD Card inserted in memory card slot, everytime the phone is turning ON it requests to format the card?
This is not happened to M2 card anyway.

Yea, that happends on mine. It's currently sent away to have the flash & squeaky case fixed - hoping the firmware upgrade will also sort this out as have to be very careful what you touch when you turn it on!

Just got my second K850i this morning. It is using the newer RICA037 firmware so hopefully won't experience as many problems. Fingers crossed!

Good Evening,

Well this morning my phone was swapped over with the courier, but this is the only chance i have had to use the phone.

This is my third unit from o2 and I cant fault O2 in any way, they have been superb in swapping over my phone with out any hassle at all.

Any way, my previous 2 phones had R1CA029 on. My new O2 this morning has R1CA037. So if you get a new phone from O2 Direct from today onwards, the new phones are being shipped with R1CA037. (New Stock on Monday Morning at O2 Direct)
Some O2 shops may still have old stock though.

Any First impressions.

Camera does seem to be in sync with the Flash. I have took many Pics and the Flash seems to fire with the Camera.
Pics also seem brighter as well.

I havnt had much time to play with anything else.

But when i do I will post on here.

Let me know if you want me to try anything with the phone.

is the stand-by clock displayed?

No.

And from what i understand it may never be there.

The screen on the K850i is different to the ones in other K Series Phones.
Other K Series phones use a different background technology to the K850i. From what ive been told its a TFT type screen in the K850i which is seems to be correct that it goes black when of (Like your home tft does)

SE May change the way the screen is shown further down the line. But at present its not shown on this current firmware.

Ive sort of used to not having it there any more, but i would like it there so i dont have to keep pressing the side buttons to show the clock etc.

037 is still a bit random in Auto as to when is uses the flash. Took some pics in the forest yesterday and the flash kept being triggered. Made it look like I was there at night

Was only slightly dim.

Posted by darrengf
I general use Red Eye on the flash, But i hvnt noticed any problems when i used the normal one, but again i have only had about a hour to play with it.

Im now currenlty transfering everything back to the phone, as i always format the memory card so everything is a clean install when i get a new phone, no problems then can be trasnfered from one to the other.

I hope.

Im also going to try and install some jave applications froim the SE website (The free software ones) in r1ca029 you cant install, world clock and converter (Well not on the last 2 i had) SE have emailed me back to say that they were aware of this problem and hope to have it fixed soon. So Im hoping that the Java has now been resolved on the r1ca037.

Will update asap

Posted by joemax
Still can't load them on R37 either - well not on mine. SE site fails with a newtwork error and if manually copied to the M2, the app fails to load correctly.

World Clock however does work

Posted by darrengf
Nope I can still not download applications of the SE website using r37 software.

The video is still out of sync by 5 to 7 seconds using media player, Its of sync by about 1-4 seconds using file manager so thats is not fixed at all.

I've experienced som pretty weird bugs lately...

First it has happened twice now that when phone dies because depleted battery all files saved by the phone itself, that is mainly photos, gets deleted and the m2-card (4GB SanDisk) goes corrupt and cannot be read as a removable disk anymore. Although all files that were transferred to the card from computer are still there and usable in the phone but can only be transferred via bluetooth. And to be actually usable again the card had to be formatted.

Today, the media player stopped working. When entering media player it doesn't find any files what so ever. And when putting the camera mode swith into play files the phone crashes.

I've now made a master reset and will see if this fixes the media player...

EDIT: The media player now works after master reset. But all contact pics stopped working even though I use the same m2-card that I had made a backup of the contacs with. This used to work fine with the K800i as long as the pics for the contacts were in the same folder as before restoring the contact list.
And this sucks having to reassign all pics as I use pics to appr 250 different contacts...

My phone rebooted twice today while doing nothing, and the only thing I can imagine is that it was very cold (both times, I was outside). I hope this isn't another problem in the making. What about all the owners in Scandinavia? Will I find my phone crashing when I go to Stockholm in a few weeks?!

There will never be a standby screen because the K850i uses a TFT screen, not a TFD one that has clever 'trickery' to switch to a basic monochrome LCD display to save power.

I've not had the flash fail yet, except for when I've held the camera wrong, so I think that part has definitely been fixed. Shame the media player is still so buggy and slow! It's getting there, slowly. Roll on a PROPER new firmware!

Posted by darrengf
@jmcomms. I'm happy with this firmware (R1CA037) Well i will tell you if im still happy in 20 days as thats seems to be the longest my phone lasts with out it having to become a flashing brick.

I also say roll on the major firmware in 1 year time. R9CAxxx ( It might be all working then ) and then it will be time for a new SE phone K900? and its all going to start again, ** Why do i do this to my self **

Not sure what SE are releaasing in the next two weeks, But from what ive gathered its not a major firmware, just a minor one to resolve certain issues with the phone.

What's the build quality like on your new one Darren?

Swapped my first K850i with a wobbly screen at CPW for another. Still has 029 on it and doesn't have a wobbly screen. It does have a creaking back on the bottom left corner!

Very Different to my other 2, the first 2 diddint have any majoy problems other that a squeeky earpiece onto the glass screen, however this one doesn feel very different..

The battery cover is much stronger and the keys are slighter raised more on this one on the left (near no 4) than the other one, although i never noticed that on the other one until i got this one.

Other than that nothing has changed. I never has a sceen or dust problem. Hope i dont get one on this one either.

I too have the same problem with the flash on the 029 F/W on Orange, and likewise with the occasional freezing and battery removal to resolve.

Also, I'm not sure if this one has been posted yet or not, but I have the odd problem with txt messaging. If I write a txt message that spills over to SMS 2, then send it, it will fail and ask for a retry and sit in the Outbox. However, I can't open/view/edit/move the message to send it again or edit in drafts and send again, or the Retry option wont work either. But, the recipient will receive half of the message! Has anyone else seen or had this problem?

Lee.

Welcome Lee to Esato.

No no body has ever mentioned that on this forum or any other forum i know of. I think this may be a fault with the orange branding on the phone.

My SMS are norm 3-7 sms at a time and i havnt had one failure of a text. I send a few thousand a month

I have a o2 branded phone, well o2 only change the playnow logo to o2 and leave everything else alone.

Have you done a master reset of the phone, (This will loose any of your data so back up first) and see if that resolves the issue, other than that its back to orange.

Sorry

Hey Lee,

Check you havent changed the message options to Circuit Switched nstead of packet switched. I had a customer on a W910 with same problem.

Hope thats all it is!

This K850i is really starting to annoy me...

On the previous page i told you about my recent problems and that I did a master reset that got ther media player working again. Today I've been spending a couple of hours restoring all installed games, programs and especially all contact photos.

Now that I just finished with the contacts I find that all games and programs i reinstalled this morning are gone. Not even the preinstalled games and progs are there anymore...

So basically I have to do another master reset...

Really really annoying... I do hope they release a new firmware soon or this will be he first time ever I actually give up a SE phone and choose another model due to phone being basically unusable.

Posted by jmcomms
My screen is now loose at the top right hand side (looks like it needs to be glued back in). Not too bad (yet), but it does creak a bit when I'm on a call.

Also, there's now some light poking through the C key (bottom left) so I can see that we'll all have completely blank (and well lit) keys in the next 6-9 months.

Build quality is definitely going to affect SE if they're not careful. Mind you, the service centres that get paid to do repairs will be excited!

Posted by Sebby
The LEDs appear to be something they just can't get right. Even my week 43 build that I got today (my 5th K850, incidentally) has issues with the LEDs not being aligned correctly, but otherwise it does feel really solid. It certainly looks like they've nailed the build issues. But that doesn't excuse them for releasing it in such a poor state.

Posted by darrengf
Ok Im trying to Test things that was on the list on page 1 with R1CA029

I now have R1CA037

On some phones, adding a birthday to a contact does not give you a chance to add it to the Calendar. ** This now works with out any problems

If the phone goes into standby whilst viewing photos, resuming the phone isn't possible unless you exit this mode. ** I can now resume with out any problems now as i was one of those people who couldnt add dates correctly onto the contacts list.

The zoom buttons both zoom into a picture and change the volume if you are listening to music whilst browsing pictures ** This one is fixed on mine

**** However new bug, Now when listening to music and browsing photos, I can zoom in on the pics with out altering the sound, HoweverIf i keep my finger on the zoom button, the song changes or fast forwards or rewinds to the next one

quick update on the orange 029 crash/reboot "scared of the dark" syndrome.

I've been playing around with mine to see if there's any pattern to the
crashes and I found one which stops it happening. When the phone is set to
GSM / 3G it'll crash and reboot, turn off 3G no reboots. This only happens
when the handset has to hunt around for the signal and is fairly constantly
changing from 3G to GSM and back again, i.e. in my trouser pocket, sat at the
desk at work - put it on the desk where 3G is wea, but there and it's fine
again !!!!

Posted by darrengf
@glorfingal Posible a Orange issue with the firmware on the handset then?

Im on O2 and dont have that problem with the R1CA029 firmware. (when i had the 1st and 2nd phone)

On my third phone I now have R1CA037 firmware, which on Friday when i go to the main city I will be able to see if it switches from GSM-3G, as O2 seem to forget that i live in a town and I would like 3g coverage or even edge for that matter

@darrengf - that's what I though too ... still waiting on Orange's verdict as
to whether it should go back for the other "features" mine has !!
