the N82 isnt that ugly is it? personally, i put functionallity ahead of looks. just ask my ugly girlfriend. the good thing about the n82 is that it looks the way it does in the product shots. it dosent have an fingerprints on it yet.
but why is it that whenever someone gets awful pictures with a k850, its because theyre using it wrong? the net is full of 5mp phone review/comparisons and the k850 almost always comes out last. but people insist its the photographer. I know how to take photos, and i know to keep my fingers well away from the front of the k850. the flashburn thing is a well reported bug in the k850. if you insist your k850 dosent get flashburn, please take a photo of your arm with auto settings, and post it at full size with its exif settings so everyone can see.
im kinda sad to see SE go. the Nokia interface is really foreign to me. but everything works and i can plug it into the telle to look at my photos, and that alone is worth the switch. to me personally
Posted by dipb
Dupet,
The photo that you have pubslihed shows that the shot is overexposed.
I also faced a similar problem and hope SE addresses this in their next firmware update. It is nothing to do with the phone or the camera. This only happens when the distance between the subject and the camera is 2-3 feet. More than that it is ok.
Compared to N95 this phone takes incredible pictures.. no doubt. But you have to agree to the fact that all devices have plus and minus and this phone is no exception. None of the Nokia cameras give so clear & crisp pictures as SE of a same level does.
K800 is perfect today after 10-12 firmware update. So wait for another couple of firmware updates and I believe you will see the real camera coming out.
cheers

Here you go. Auto Settings with flash. White background. EXIF info is there also.

@Dupet
Check the size of the hand in the first photo and compare it to the one on the second. You'll notice that the background is larger on the first photo, than the second, so the K850 has adjusted the flash to the background (hence the extremely bright hand) and not the hand.
Posted by fullforce
Auto everything and i think my hand is even closer to the flash then yours:
Okay a bit blurred but anyway you can see the effect from the flash.
The second one with ISO 100.

dude, you have really scary looking hands!
but its good to see not everyone has the same problems i had with the k850.
personally, i just knew it was time to let it go. it wasnt just the camera; it was a lot of little things. i kept pressing the touch buttons by accident and it was impossible to keep clean. i had to keep wiping the lens on my clothes before taking photos, and i think that resulted in dust underneeth the glass.
i sure do miss the SE interface though

Well,
Here is an example of what I mean by 'Repainting REDS, in a horrid PINK colour' - Its such a horrid FW fault - I hope Sony Ericsson FIX this and fast - my T650i does better than the K850i!!!!
(Both images were taken in Macro Mode)
They are both at Full Size, with no editing - its a sad fact that the K850i cannot render reds (a mainstay in the photographic colour spectrum).
You can tell which one is the K850i, and which one is the T650i...
Posted by Duran
try pointing the k850 to something red when there's low light.
You've never seen so much noise in your life :>

Well the lensproblem i solved last night i simply took the glass away. But if you don't want to do that you just buy the krusell classic case and you will at least get rid of the smudge problem. The touch buttons is more of an personal issue i think. I have no problems with them at all, so that differs.

guys I noticed another feature on 038 fw!
now you can see 2 outgoing calls to the same person in one day, and vice verse.. before you could see one going out for each person
Posted by Sony α
And an exmaple of reds in Low Lighting - no Flash (Obviously) - ISO 400 to alllow in enough Light to the Lens - still Pinks and full of soft grainy images!!!
Although, all is not lost, I have achieved some cracking images (FW was 029 here) - these look great and accurate...
Posted by oracle86
Here's my hand with default settings (@038):
Posted by Sony α
@Duran
Its been done, and still the Reds are rendered as Pinks - Plus, it should not matter, as a Semi Pro PhotoGrapher myself (Im a Product Design Student lol) - the camera lens should compensate for the light hitting the lens - If the T650i can handle the light, so should the K850i, with BETTER results - after all it is the FlagShip.

Here is another example for you, its horrid! Last time I checked, my K610i was 'Evening Red', not 'Lurid Pink'...
And now the T650i - Colour Processing is just so much better!!
Posted by mark187
I had the same problem with over exposed pictures and fixed it by cleaning the light sensor of the gunk it had accumulated from handling the phone. I used one of those little brushes you get in an electric shaving kit.
Posted by Duran
if you read my post i never said that k850 had good color processing or any other "in-favor-of-k850" comment
Posted by oracle86
Yeah the light sensor is very important. Not only does it have to be perfectly clean, your fingers shouldnt be anywhere near it!
And of course, the FW has to be good ^^
Posted by buntoo
any news abt the firmware release date?
Posted by iqmaster158
so i cleaned the sensor with brush as u adviced..the diffrence is pretty obvious but it isnt as it should be..my FW is 37..no fingers in front of sensor..
using iso 100 and -0.3 makes it better but still u can feel from the photo that something is wrong with it..but making this settings takes a few seconds so its not aim&shoot as id like to have
Posted by Sony α
@Duran
lol, I know dude - im just saying hehe
But its poor at best - and may I add, the K610i image was taken using a Brand new K850i (038) so its the first photo with the device - so no chance of gunk accumulation
There is no denying its 'slightly off colour'
Posted by tonchy
These two pictures were taken from my k850 with auto settings in a point and shoot manner. they look fine to me.
anyways i think we are getting off topic. FW will be out week 6 right???
Posted by obentou
I actually have some interesting info to share...
The time I had 2 K850i's (a blue, and green), with 07W41 and 07W40 build dates respectively produced very different pictures.
The green one had not as bad flashburn but the blue one had always reproduced what Dupet has posted in this thread.
Quite an interesting phone I must say.. I've already gone through like 3 K850i's...
But anyways, no firmware release today right? I guess N95-3, here I come.
Posted by ][nquisitor
Good riddance, now go troll the N95-3 thread and wait for their software updates,
while discovering their bugs...
PS: O and take Dupet with you, you guys just needed an excuse to trash SE, there is no phone without a single fault!

whats the point in waiting 10-12 firmware updates, by then my 12 month contract will have run out and i would get a new phone. SE must release phones that are perfect from the start.
Lets face it SE have really messed up with the 850 they need to implement a returns policy like samsung did with the D900i rather then sending phones away for repair they should give out replacements to their customers.
simply posting some little text on a web site (referring to the "announcement" about the fw update, which evidently wasnt true) is not good crisis management at all, SE risk loosing their loyal customer, they need to act now and not after 10 -12 firmwares!

Buddy,
With 13 posts in this forum you probably have made zero contribution to Esato except say good riddance to me from this thread.
I have done EXTENSIVE reports and bug testing for this phone, and even just from using the phone normally many quirks can be found. If you were in my position you'd probably do the same and complain like many others here. There is obviously more than one fault on every phone, except these faults on the K850i interfere with daily usage and are not considered "bugs" to me anymore. They are simply stupid and annoying hindrances that render most features of the phone half-useless.
So why have you singled out Dupet and myself from this thread? Have you made any contributions and/or evidence in here to prove we are trolling? We are simply voicing our opinions, and we've both taken the effort to post up pictures and give other readers second thoughts on this phone before buying it if they haven't already. This is a K850i firmware thread and we aren't limited to posting what we have already said - which unfortunately are mostly negative comments. Meaning, this device is pretty much under par from everyone's expectations because 90% of the posts here really aren't praises. If no one took initiative to post these comparisons and reports up no one would know about the setbacks of the K850i and would probably be disappointed once they laid their hands on it.
The point is, the inherent nature of this thread calls for comments like mine and Dupet's. A firmware thread, especially for this phone, isn't going to attract happy people and most of us are going to rant on about its faults which we can clearly see in here. I like the phone's other aspects such as the design, display, etc. but this isn't the thread to brag about how great it is. Rumour says Sony Ericsson reads these threads, and if they aren't going to be hasty in fixing the phone, the more the complaints they see, the more pressured and obligated they may be to release new fixes.
So that's why I do not appreciate your comments telling me off to troll the N95-3 thread, which I am not sure if it even exists. I browse Esato exclusively for the latest updates on Sony Ericsson phones only and to post my observations to let other readers know. I am not sure about you.

Haha,
Funny this is - Orange replaced my Velvet Blue K850i on an Orange Care replacement - and I ended up with what seems like a funny K850i!
It is Luminous Green, which Is supposedly a CPW Exclusive - with a Silver battery door and sillver power switch plus Volume keys :S
To confuse me even further, it has an Orange backplate, with the Orange Logo etc - and is Orange branded - yet its the Luminous Green Colour Scheme...something fishy lol!

Sorry if this a stupid newbie question but can someon eplease help me.
I bought my phone from ebay and the software says R1CA037 prg12004404_CHINA_S O I live in the states and was wondering if I can reflash the firmware to something unbranded that belongs to U.S. instead of China. I looked at Davinciteam.com but was unable to find that info... I am also worried that when the new firmware comes out that everyone is so highly anticipating it may adversely effect my phone since its registered to China.
Thanks for any input.

yes you can use davinci to reflash/unbrand your phone

I'd say wait, the 038 seems to have some battery problems..and according to some people here the new firmware should be out in week 6 (or 14th of feb?)

I have had 039 for a few days now, and not unexpected I can say that the battery life is horrible. No news there.
But today I discovered a bug, when recieving a call while using the camera, the blue lights doesnt go off when exiting from the camera. And blue + white lights stays on while continuing using the phone.

...buddy...
you may have the impression than you having more posts than me in a forum means smth, but you are wrong!
You contribution to this forum has ended by the time you announced that you got ridden of your K850 and you are going to buy the N95, like this is going to make things work better for both you or SE
You did the same thing about K790 and Nokia N73 (was that bug free too? ).
So instead of bashing SE firmwares and trying to find flaws and desperate converting ppl to Nokia fans, i advice you to keep this trash for your Nokia forums and sites.
This is not the right thread to decide if this the right phone for you or not.
This thread is supposed to be for K850 owners,
to inform themselves for the new firmware. If you or anybody else have anything new to add about that, you are all welcomed!
BUT, when you and the rest of the forum members here, disrespect the fellows that actually are interested to know more about the new firmwares, by posting off topic for a few hundreds posts...you dont help much...
The new firmware has never been confirmed anyway, thankfully, the mods were kind enough not to close this thread so far, but it will not last for long, if you ppl keep going on like that!
Every time i log in, i found 5-10 new pages on this topic, but absolutely no news at all. If you consider this a contribution then i have no comments.
I call this spamming and i dont admire ppl who have a high post account, just for the shake of it.
I m not saying that your post was the only one that buried away the few useful, ON topic posts, but a new debate over the old N95 VS K850 argument, right here, right now, would be totally inappropriate and unjustified.
I can assure you that N95 hasnt any less bugs than K850 or any other mobile of this category! So keep your opinion about your next mobile for your self and esp out of this thread!

][nquisitor:
I'm personally not a "crazy" Nokia fan but if their phones do the job then by all means I would encourage others to find salvation with their devices. I would actually recommend Sony Ericsson over them, to be honest. Both N95 and K850i have their flaws and whatnot, but as you said, with all the people "spamming" here, perhaps recommending them to try the N95 won't hurt, wouldn't it? It will lessen the amount of spam you don't want to see here.
Also, the K850i to me is a very expensive handset. Since I have been using SE practically for my entire life, I expect a company to make progress in their mobile releases. But what we see here is the exact opposite. And when I spend this much amount of money on a phone, I expect it to be great. The phone is coming from a company that has been in the cellular phone business for many years, and I did not expect the K850i to be hindered like this.
I certainly have not started any N95 vs. K850i argument in here. I am not trying to convert people to Nokia fans. I have not disrespected anyone. This thread is indeed for K850i owners and I currently am one, and will continue to be in the future since I have already purchased it.
This phone's value is going for $360 CANADIAN dollars BRAND NEW on eBay which is probably chump change in GBP. This phone used to retail for so much more, but look what happened. The K850i has so much potential, yet it is bogged down hence all the users' complaints here.
New firmware has not officially been announced by SE but it was strongly implied that there would be an imminent update from what they put in fine print on their website.
I agree with you that post count doesn't really represent a person's contribution to forums. But since you bashed me I had no other choice to think, correct? Your low post count and comments directed at me forced me to believe so. I appreciate the fact that you may log on once in a while to check for new firmware, but being a member here for a while, I can tell you now that every one of these "firmware overview" threads will have posts which you don't want to see simply because no one can perfectly cater to your preferred forum etiquette. And also, knowing Sony Ericsson, they won't release firmware this often. So I guess you don't have to even check this thread often at all, don't you? It will only boil your blood because of 5-10 posts which are totally useless.
On the other hand, I will follow your advice and keep my opinion on other "brands of phones" out of this thread. Perhaps if I recommended people to stick with the K800i no one would complain, even you. I do not understand the hate for Nokia... it is simply a manufacturer and I personally do not discriminate between the both of them.
Anyways, I don't want this thread to be locked either, so I guess we can stop our rambling here. Let's just hope the firmware comes out sometime soon so I can put my anxiousness to rest.
