No I don't think so..
I have talked to the SE Support here in Norway, they told me that they have deleted the 038 FW from the "over air update" and that a new update was ready in week 6.
so... next week! 3th~9th feb... hope it's right this time...

I got that to from SE here in Sweden-that the new firmware wille come out in week 6.

Can someone from "3" network comment on how buggy or unbuggy 039 FW is?
Touchy, R1DA039 is the same firmware as R1DA038.
Certain networks like there own branding and so ask SE to change certain features and scripts on the phone. 3 is one of them.
Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile have the same revison of R1DA038 (The Base Software, Boot scripts and connection managers etc, However They have There own Signatures and languages on the phone. Like there own Style of software.
R1DA039 has been out for the last 2 weeks ar service centers.
The reason why R1DA039 has only just been released as it was awaitng approval from 3.
You ask why not wait until the newfirmware is released.
Because 3 will take another month or so to prob auth that one, so its better for the customers to have less buggy phones than what they currenlty have.
Hope this makes sense.

thanks.
it makes sense. what i don't get is why SE has not made the fixes/improvements achieved with 038 (listed on the first page) GENERIC?
one would think that if they went thru the trouble of fixing bugs for a network they would upload those fixes/improvements inmediately for all non netowork specific audiences (i mean improvements such as the new camera driver).
now again, from what i heard here 038 is less stable than 037 am i right?

3 is the Carrier for which SE released the 039 FW

I think they mean the 3-network

A network not worth knowing about matey!

@tonchy
From what i undersstand.
The main Networks like
Orange, O2, Voda, T-Mobile, Tim and a couple of others we sending 1 in 5 phones back for repair or unwanted handsets.
This is 20% of stock of SE which is a large ammount.
The networks can play heavier hands than a single consumer and this is from what i understand why the R1DA038 was relased.
R1CA037 is a stable firmware for Java, even though its buggy.
R1DA038 was relased for Camera and Java issues.
As you know, most networks offer a 14 day return so when SE get all the phones back from the networks, they tend to fix things quicker.
Strange but true.

And our poor unbranded fellows don't have any unbranded firmware since... 3 months ago..

Considering this is SE's very first A200 platform phone, I'm wondering if similar issues abound on the recently released W890i or should we expect the same to occur on the Z720i or the upcoming W760i?

me toooo! I'll wait to next week and see if they released the new firmware then. Otherwise i will seriously consider taking the phone back and demand my money back all toghether. My claim will simply be that the phone doesn't do what the specs says it will do.

Me too... and well it seems that SE should realize that there are some customers out there that are buying their phones... well at least for now :|
Only three hours left for SE to keep their words thought I still don't understand why they've put a major firmware update on an subnote for an accessory.

Dont unbranded k850s get the Firmware AS released? And the Branded ones get verified by network operator after it is released to the unbranded ones?

Because they never released 038 for unbranded in the first place.

While waiting for the new firmware i am serioulsy thinking of taking the damn lens cover away.
@Duran
Didn't you do that? Have you experienced any problems so far? How did you actually remove the glass? Did you simly press it until it lossened or did you peel off the tape that hold it in position? It seems a little hard to make it look that you haven't done anything with it if you have to peel and scrape it off and then put it back.

Well then you are a lucky one! I got several dust specs after only 2 weeks! Maybe one should try to seal the phone from the inside out with tar or something
Well mine defenately is one of those who lets dust in like a wide open door in a autumn storm.

Haha same.
I used to use pouches for my good phones back then, but now I don't. I like to use the phone without taking it out of a pouch and stuff... I don't know why, but it's just how I feel.
My K850i already has tons of dust over the lens... and compressed air won't help anymore... it worked on my blue one (which is now sold), but not for this one. I feel the Luminous Green versions are built a lot better
Posted by fullforce
Well if it lets dust in then the only solution will be removing the lens cover. I really can't see a point for it to be there apart from giving a bit of protection for the actual lens cover. But for me, who uses the krussel classic case, there is already good protection from pressure or dammge on the "real" mechanical lens cover.
And from the pics iv'e seen it seems easy to take off the back cover. Onle one screw and the usage of a plastic card to loosen the backside of the phone.

"The camera isn't that great!" ???
I've seen this stated all too often in this thread yet I do not understand.
* Does it not take photos in 1/3/5MP resolutions?
* Does it not record videos in QVGA @ 30fps ?
* Does it not produce incredible photos better than most if not ALL the competition (N95 variants, LG Viewty, N82, etc) ?!? There are MANY of you that are complaining about its camera yet STILL defending it in the "post your pictures & video taken by the K850i" thread.
So what on Earth are you ppl - that are not happy with the camera - complaining about?! Seriously, and Honestly without contradicting yourselfs??
I'm wondering if many ppl here are NOT suffering from Legendary Phone syndrome.
(Legendary Phone Syndrome) def. (sic): Is when a person is woo'd over by a phones technology so much that any revision of that same technology - no matter the increasingly useful features - cannot compare and thus fall as inadequate. ie K750i users still stunned by camera abilities augmented by cam drivers - seemingly to those sufferers that currently own a K850i (2nd marketed revision of the K750i after the K790/800).
Posted by obentou
Exactly.. no phone camera can rival a real digital camera. It's got dedicated and expensive optical technology to make it for what it's worth.

I own the K790a and its the same as the K800 when it comes to stock camera performance. So I have a reference point, and from what I've seen in others photos the K850i seems to be MUCH MUCH better; and not solely due to the 1.7MP difference.
So "isn't that great" when refering to the K790a/i or K800/K810's camera is nothing I can weigh.

Well iv'e been a bad boy and removed the covering glass over the camera..see what boredom and desperation that comes from waiting for the new firmware can do to a man!!
I probably voided my warranty now but i think i can put the glass back if i have to take my phone to a repair shop..oh wait..we don't, since december 2007, have any SE-repair shops any longer in Sweden...well we do have one one big crappy repair shop that you send your phone to via your retailer. But they are the worst...can't be bothered to elaborate that but if you can imagine it, they have done it!

I'm going to him today at 1 p.m. (12 a.m. GMT) to check is this not a joke, but I think that I will return to home with new FW

Err, the camera is rubbish. I'm yet to take one photo on my phone thats actually looked good at full size. One thing it definitely doesn't do is produce incredible photos!!!

I finally got tired of waiting and got rid of this piece of crap. I got a N82 instead, and i couldnt be happier! I can FINALLY take night time photos of people without getting flashburn. that was all i ever wanted. plus wifi and gps is a nice bonus. i still cant get over how awesome the photos look on this phone. and the designers were clever enough to put a lens cover too! heres a comparison of the same photo between the two different phones. SE fanboys will piss and moan, but lets see any K850 take a photo of flesh tones as good as that!
K850
N82

Obviously, you don't know how to handle a camera.
Posted by Dupet
if that were true, wouldnt both photos come out badly? i tried absolutely everything to get nice flesh tones with my k850. i held it every possible way and tried every combination of settings there is. if anyone in this thread is thinking about selling their k850 and getting a n82, i urge you to do so. you wont regret it!
Posted by iqmaster158
if n82 wasnt so ugly ill go for it also..i am tired of this k850 crap..all my phones was SE but i have my limits..in two weeks we have new FW here..hope things get better
to the poste above..handlin a camera? who cares..i want to aim and shoot not to handle omg..and if..what u can handle here? 100 ISO + 0.7 withebalance and what..photo will be awful either..

nice point iqmaster158. these are point and shoot cameras. not DSLR cameras that should need to be handled.
i really hope the firmware comes out for you guys soon. but personally, i dont think a simple firmware update is going to fix all the things wrong with this phone

2 things:
1. How's the battery life
2. How fast is the phone when saving a 5MP shot
P.S. I don't get flasburn with my K850i.. you are just using it wrong...

I think it's safe to say that you have either a faulty camera in your K850 or serious problems with the firmware. I tried the same type of foto on my hand with auto settings and it turned out okay. Not as bleached as your shot at all.
