I don't think you'll ever actually get the "G" in the same place you get "3G" or "H". When just using standard GPRS, there is no icon.

Do you see "H" most of the time? IIRC, HSDPA is better than Edge and 3G. I'd say 75% of the time I see "H", and the rest of the time I see 3G or nothing (hence GPRS).

I've received a response from SE Customer Service here in Romania and they've told me that the latest firmware is R1DA tough I've told them I have R1CA037 Generic Adriatic. I've also asked them about the features in the new firmware and they've ignored that question.
Just tried on SEUS and obviously... no update... What can I say more?
Here is the line referring to the firmware version "Referitor la cerinţa dumneavoastră, dorim să vă informăm că, ultima versiune de software disponibilă pentru telefonul mobil Sony Ericsson K850i este R1DA. "

Just wanted to ask a quick, probably stupid, question?

Has anyone camped out like this for a firmware update on any other phone by any other manufacturer?

I personally have never seen anything like this before... I just hope that Sony Ericsson appreciate the furore that this has caused and learn lessons for the future...

Amen, I feel like a total loser. Clicking on this forum abuot every half hour to see if there are any updates. I want this phone to be all it can be. I still think the pictures I have grabbed have been worth the price though....

Oh most definitaly. I look at it this way, if I gave this phone to my parents, they would hate it. But I come from a nerd/technical field, so I can outsmart/hack/have more patience, for the bugs. It does what I need it to, takes great photos, plays podcasts and music for my commute, lets me check email. I just hope for a speedier and less bumpy experience going forward.

For anyone on Orange, just loaded up SEUS and 038 is there.

Sorry if this has already been posted

Just see the first post:

"R1DA038
- Released on SEUS starting 21/12/07 "

Hmmm since the update to 038 I can no longer find the option to make the clock large on the homescreen. Has this been removed? :/

I only normally get 3G on mine. Only had 'H' twice and that wasn't in Sheffield. I don't actually have 3G turned on now though so I don't get anything anymore.

From what people have said it has been removed on 038 for Orange.

This is only happening to Orange firmware, So i can only persume that the firmware has a slight problem in it.

You do have the other features of R1DA038 though

Posted by Classicguy
Yeah its not a huge deal I suppose, I just liked the large transparent clock coz it looked cool LOL.

Noticed an improvement with the camera though

Well yes but I've told them that I've checked on SEUS and FOTA before sending them the email... I really hope that at least they are developing the new firmware because this is the worst answer that I've got from a customer service employ ever.

Posted by Classicguy
Another new feature Ive noticed, when going through your photos now, it does a fancy transition effect between the pics rather than just flicking to the next pic.

Posted by florinpatan
Someone said in a previous post that the 037 was removed from the SE server. How did you find out this thing? Because I don't see any links or something like that either on EMMA, SEUS or SE support site and SEUS still let's me flash my phone to 037 (I don't know if that is the right word)...
They have about 72 hours until January 2008 ends, GMT. Let's see if they will release something or not...

camdriver changelog between 3.4 (R1DA038) and 2.9 (earlier FW):

- added (or just fixed) exposure bias in EXIF
- minor changes in video and video telephony framerates
- a bit cleaned up code

minor things, nothing what can improve quality. of course some changes can be done also in camera management code in firmware

This information isn't correct... You see - I have not that kind of information ("you already have the most new FW, but you could try flash again anyway") since a month. One month with no firmware on servers (even 037)? No shit, it can't be... :/ BTW: SE, my patient is almost done... I (SE) you but, but soon... You know... Nokia N82 is not so bad phone at all... Sorry for my english

so has the firmware we've al been waiting for been realeased or not?

Posted by omen_
No... Not yet... Just checked - still nothing... :/

Posted by lun4r
every day i woke up then opening this forum, i'm expecting sum1 to yell like "IT'S OUT, the new FW is out..." or sumthing like that but it seems that i'm nowhere near it...

well, SE still have 3 more days though...just wanna see whether I or all of us are patient enough to wait...geez....

Posted by yorkiex
the only thing im waiting for is an update to speed the phone up a little cause its abit sluggish for my liking but apart from that ive not had a problem with it and this is by far the best phone ive had. So any improvement on this phone would make it an even better phone than it is already and im still on R1CA037.

P.s i forgot to say mine is unbranded

Don't worry about it. We deserve to have this firmware update and this "big" update shouldn't even be necessary in the first place. Sony Ericsson is lucky they have a loyal customer base like us, otherwise they'd be deep in a shithole.

I have never run into a brand where their flagship product is so handicapped... but ah well. If there is no update in 3 days, I am getting rid of this for a N95-3. Then I'll come back when the QS edition of the K850i comes out, and of course a complimentary new firmware!

Heres a photo about that mentiond "H" insted of the "3G":

man, i really like how i have to turn my phone off and wait 5 minutes just to check if theres a new firmware. thanks sony ericsson

I've never seen an 'E' on mine, or a 'G'.

Where in the UK can you get Edge? And is it only available on certain network providers?
Same, I've never seen E or H on mine, only G +/- 3G. I have however had speeds over 384kbps implying an HSDPA connection. I'm on T-Mobile UK with the phone on 038.

Can't say I ever tried downloading anything when I was in a HSDPA area. I try not to download too much on my phone as I only get a poxy 1MB of free browse & download and that can be used up in no time at all.

hello,

the truth is that january is almost gone but, i heard that SE says that new firm will be released at the end of january (late jan.), or in first days of february (early feb.), so thats what i am personally sticking to..

Posted by cableguy
I have the 037 Firmware and I only see E,G, or 3G
I live in Ireland and I have never seen the H logo, I dont think I ever will, as I read somewhere thats its dependent on the network, but it would be nice to see the H logo considering im on an Ericsson HSDPA network.

*** MY EARLY THOUGHTS ON 038 FIRMWARE (ORANGE) ***

THE BAD-
* Text message inbox now crops the name of the person who text you, so for example John Walters now shows as John Wal - annoying.

* Already noticed higher batter consumption but why? I dont see my phone doing anything that would require more juice (I also have 3G turned off).

* The option to have the large clock on the homescreen is now gone completely and instead it now shows the small default date and time instead.

THE GOOD -
* The media menu's are now faster and flicking between photos now has a transition effect.

* There is now an option to list your text messages in different ways just like you could with the k800.

SUMMARY-
These are the only things Ive noticed so far, and personally after trying it I would like to go back to 037 as I never really had any issues with it. For all the people on here checking time and time again to see if 038 is out, dont bother. Dont waste your time waiting for such a minor firmware upgrade. Go out and enjoy life instead

Id imagine that the reason for some old features being missing is that there is a file size limit to the firmware, so if they make improvements in some areas, certain other things have to be sacrificed in the name of file size. I'll post more thoughts as and when I notice anything.

SE have updated the Media Manager! and looks like is much better, faster, stable and even the video converting function is enable (in version 1.1 you need to buy).

In this SE looks like to have done a great job (didn't tested yet)... let's hope they do the same with K850's firmware...
