I use my k800i ALLOT to listen to music, so you have the option of editing the equalizer on the k850i, but it wont stay customized! i maxed out all the bars, but once you exit media player, and go back in, the preset is back to normal! ANNOYING!!!
I MISS SOO MUCH!! the list only view for text message too!! also cant resize text msg font size.
I MISS THE standby clock!!!
the UI is soooooooooooooooooo slow, lags lags! to load up the artist in media player, music.. just takes forever!!
VIDEO is rubbish, its to pixelly!
SE REALLY need to get a firmware update sorted!! hurry hurry, i think i will send my phone back and see what things are like in the new year with it! because as of right now i dont like it at all, i will stick to my k800i

Yeah, I'm still unhappy with the MANUAL EQUALIZER issue!! There seems to be no way of keeping the manual setting once you've come out of the media player. This is absurd!! Didn't SE conduct the bloody testing before releasing this onto the market??
I hope they're going to release an update to fix this problem or else it's pointless for me to keep this phone as listening to music is one of my top priority for purchasing the phone in the first place.

I'm LOVING this phone!!! Only took 1 day to get used to the new controles
The only bug I have found so far is that when you are in silent mode the camera still makes a noise when you take a photo! Bloody pain in the arse if you ask me...
Any updates on O2 to get rid of this yet?

Hi everyone,
I too have the problem with the synchronization of the flash.
It only comes right about 10 % of the times.
Also I have found another bug (don't know if anyone else posted it already):
the volume buttons don't always work; when listening to a song, or in a call, I cannot adjust the volume.
To fix this, I have to restart the phone, and then, it's ok.... 'til the next day when I wake up, turn on the phone, and ... again... the same thing.

k850i is JUNK!! it has the same cmos sensor as the k800!!!!! only that it has 5MPx. I ask you a question. If the k800 had its camera at max, then what could the k850i be? interpolated LOL ?! Also i heard that it freezes a lot of times, flash is not synced right, its slow, etc. It has the same processor as the k800. I knew it from the start that it would be a piece of crap. But none believed me. The whole world is disapointed about the k850i (source taiwan+corean Phone magazines, and 95% of users). Picture quality is almost as good as k800 pictures. Sony blew it in 2007. Hope that he learned from its major mistake, and will release a decent phone in 2008. Peace brothers. lets pray for SE.

A small bug to report.
When taking a picture, the icon in the bottom left corner showing where the picture will be saved, for me its the memory card, so an arow pointing to a card.
but when the picture is taken, and i'm in review mode, the icon changes to an arrow and a phone.
the photo still goes to the memory card, so its not a huge bug, but one all the same.
i'm on an unbranded handset btw

@norbi_nw:
let's not be so harsh on this phone, my co-national friend.
applying your judgment, the K800 is only an "interpolated camera" of the K750 and so on...
we have some other improvements over K800/810 (besides the camera):
- larger display
- HSPDA
- far better video recording (in my opinion)
- and so on.
the bugs in this early firmware will be solved with the next ones, as we all know by now. I have owned the K750 also from it's beginning and believe me, it was far worse; it froze every 10 min and I had to remove the battery. It was an unusable phone, but with the second firmware, everything was ok and I expect this to happen now with the K850.
Sure, we might say Sony could have done a better job with the camera, but still, Nokia's pics are far worse.

my sentiments exactly, its not just, "another K800" the K810 was more that, this is the next step for SE, both the K850 and the W910 are the start of deployment of thier new software platform, and not forgetting the Quad-Band'ness (i doubt thats a word

Don't know if anyone posted this already: I noticed that the flash doesn't sync with the image capture if you hold your hand over the sensors, so its not a software failure.
Bug report:
I have noticed that after a longer usage of the Media Player and other fuctions I can't change the volume anymore, after reboot it works again propperly.
Posted by deathchurch
I agree give the phone time. k610 had to go back due to noisy speaker during calls, k750i had to go back as it kept restarting when receiving picture messages, k800i video was ok, then bad, then just alright, but went back as there was dust under the screen. So there is always problems with SE phones when they first come out, if anything we should be having a go at them about their testing procedure..

I've been sent another K850i and it now has R1CA037 firmware. Will check tonight to see how it performs (at our annual awards, so the flash will be used heavily) and if a very minor update makes a difference.
So far so good.. tried taking photos in the dark (in a drawer) and the flash has fired on time 100% of the time.

Really glad a new firmware is on the cards, as this one is shockingly bad. I still have my K800i, and keep using it from time to time, its so much better to use than the K850i.
Just got a Bluetooth DS980 wireless stereo headset for the phone, seems to work very well indeed, will report on any crashes etc.
Flash on my phone seems to work most of the time, just the odd time it goes funny.
My biggest problem is UI speed, it is soooo slow. Was just streaming music, and syncing more music with Win Media player, and the phone was just unusable. Hopefully with time the firmware will improve. Photo quality seems good, accelerometer feature is extremely pointless and doesn't work very well.
Another thing they should do is disable the soft touch buttons during calls, as I catch mine while on a call.
Other than that, good phone, sound quality is decent too.

Another small bug to report.
When browsing through the menu... i noticed the phone vibrates when selecting an icon... only noticed it ever so slightly with a 4-5 sec pause scrolling between the icons. Now... it seems this is the same feature the W810i had, however unlike the K850i... the W810i actually worked and worked well. Hopefully this will be fixed with the firmware revision.
Has anyone else noticed it?
Posted by sandy4464
I noticed this too, when i 1st got the phone i was like "yay, flash meu!" but it didn't seem to vibrate when you went through the icons, which i miss, but as doohan says, holding a navigation key down and rapidly scrolling through the icons, you can just about feel it, i hope this will be an included fix in the firmware update.

Well, my second phone is going back tomorrow. Got an upgrade from O2 a couple of weeks ago, had a few of the bugs mentioned already but was happy to wait for a FW update. Then Saturday morning it wouldn't start (apart from the flashing lights etc) so O2 agreed to a replacement. I had thought that it might have corrupted because I switched it off while the torch was still running.
Anyway, new phone arrived on Tuesday and seemed much more responsive so was pleased, though still a few bugs. The Wednesday afternoon I noticed tried to take a picture and found that the shutter wouldn't release, tried most things, charging, taking battery out etc but no luck. O2 agreed to replace it so hence another new one tomorrow.
Out of interest, last night I did a Master Reset to clear my data and what do you know, the shutter release started working, still sending it back though.
I asked about swapping to the dark side (well a black N95) but O2 aren't doing it, further investigation seems to only be available on Vodaphone (exclusive, so I'm told).
Lets hope the FW is released soon.

I noticed that flash menu vibrates when changing selection too, but, I don't think thats a bug, its written in the Flash menu's ActionScript, I guess.
Edit:
I wanted to post this earlier, don't know if you noticed video playback errors like this:
Little black square appeared in the video on 3 frames:
More black squares on the upper left of the image
You can clearly see black squares here:
These appeared for 4 frames, they aren't black and they aren't sopposed to be there either:
This is quite a lot of interferance there:
Black square again:
Not a black square but an error again:
Yellow and pinkish red squares appear:
A big gap there:
A small error here too:
To make some things clear:
- I viewed all of these videos on computer too and those errors didn't appear on any of them
- Every time I view those videos on my phone the same errors appear on the same frames
- The shots above were taken by pausing the video on the frame with error and by pressing the camera shutter button
- Every video is MP4 and it has 260kbps video stream and 40 or 48kbps mono audio stream
Anyone noticed anything like this?

you will see the standby clock ONLY when you press the volume keys - up or down when on STANDBY screen. But in reality, STANDBY screen are just plain BLACK for K850 unlike other sonyericsson units!

Right, found a couple more bugs to go on the list, related to the DS980 handsfree. These are definitely problems with the phone, and not the handsfree. When playing music through the DS980, and then using it to try and phone someone without stopping music first (it stops itself), the phone will not play music when you try to again, phone must be switched off, and back on to resume playback.
Other than that, had no problems so far.

Another thing I've noticed on the new/latest firmware (R1CA037) is that I've now got "H" instead of 3G. Previously the phone only ever said 3G, even in areas where I now have HSDPA (and have had with other handsets).
It's still odd that it shows G and E too, at the same time as you're on 3G or HSDPA! I'd have thought it would be more logical to have the signal bar and then the square showing G, E, 3G & H (or whatever makes more sense). Now it's a mish mash!
Posted by Mizzle
I'm running the first firmware version and my flash is fully synced. However there are loads of other areas where the phone is lagging and is very slow
I've also found a zoom bug, if you zoom in on a picture in e.g. portrait and then turn the phone to landscape the zoom will be weird. Try it, and you'll know what I mean. Another thing is I've found out why the sound is out of sync with video. It has something to do with the codec - possibly H.264, but am not totally sure.

Can you possibly tell me that has the Manual Equalizer issue been resolved with this latest firmware? This is to do with the manual equalizer setting not being saved as soon as you come out of the Media Player (although the manual setting takes effect as long as you remain in the Media Player)
Many thanks in advance.

Tried to update my K850 via SEUS a couple minutes ago and it's said "No update available".
Posted by jmcomms
@elad
Sorry, no. I created a manual preset (showing MAN on the media player itself) and then exited the application. Upon restarting, it's back to 'Normal').
The actual preset settings are remembered though, just not to select it when you start! That's pretty poor - although for me, Mega Bass is fine.
I must say that I've yet to swap the memory card from my T650 (4GB) so I've only got the 10 preset ringtones as music to select. At this point, the media player is VERY quick. I wonder if it will remain that quick when there are a 1,000+ tracks installed? Haven't yet tried watching video.
To be honest, with such a minor revision number change, I don't believe there are many changes on this firmware. Just the most obvious bug fixes (like the flash). The web browser was sluggish before too, but now seems a lot quicker - as you'd expect when using HSDPA - and I'm certain it never showed "H" before.
Posted by ryanchg
@jmcomms, is the phone's UI working much faster compared to the 1st firmware?
Posted by darrengf
The Firmware for the phone may be faster in being released than we can imagine.
At presence the Se cust Support are taking most of the complaints on the K850i. Infact most calls and emails are now about the problamatic K850i
The SE Feedback Forum is more on faults with the K850i which most of them have already been mentioned on hear than any other handset.
Review for the Flagship phone in magazines, internet sites etc havnt been promising at all, some raiting 3 out of 5 stars.
Bear in mind when the K750 / K800 and K810 got 5 starts at most of them.
Most of them are saying the phone hasnt delivered up to being what the thought, Camera issues and too many bugs, Buttons feel Cheap and plasticky, phone feels bulky and so on.
The phone has already started to drop in price at a fast rate, eg Amazon.co.uk
Phone is now less than £320 Un branded.
All stores and internet sites have stock of a flagship model when normaly they fly out, also Ive been round shops at all the major networks and outlets today and not one has a picture of the phone in the window, Infact theres very little hype of the phone at all. (Is this SE doing?)
I have the phone and luv SE products, I am still however a little let down by it all, The firmware i know will be resolved in later updates, but I did think the phone would be better to say the least.
SE have been making phones for some years now, so releasing a phone with Firmware that turns a camera phone into a laugh is shocking to say the least.
I still Do like the phone though and wouldnt get rid of it, However my heart isnt with it SE at the moment which is a shame.
Posted by Duran
@darren
are the plastic keys & bulky feel really that bad?
firmware wont fix those...
Posted by jmcomms
I don't think the phone is bulky, but it is larger than many other models on the market. Let's be honest though; it's NOT big. Not everyone likes ultra-thin handsets either (in fact, sales suggest people like something a little more substantial and heavier).
I think we've proven we can build small things, but even the W880i successor appears to be slightly bigger than before. Sounds mad!
As for the Q about the new firmware being quicker, well I've now put the 4GB card in and must say the media player (for music, still to try video) is MUCH quicker. You can scroll left/right through the menus quickly, and it also lists the tracks very quick. Rotation also seems quicker too, so I think there's been some code optimisation going on behind the scenes (even if the equaliser settings don't work properly with manual presets).
Tomorrow I'll check how the phone works with a BT headset AND BT Watch connected simultaneously. I can tell you that it still crackles a bit (sometimes) when it fades the audio in/out when pausing/playing.

Just tried some video and it's still out of sync, even if you turn off the auto rotation. The video works fine on other SE models.
One odd thing to add; when playing a track I've just copied it started to stutter terribly about 2 minutes in. This was though the internal speaker. Rewound it and played the same bit again and it was fine second time around. I wonder if it was doing something in the background (polling for email or something).

Soft keys have always been active during a call - otherwise you wouldn't be able to access other phone functions, e.g. looking up a contact, during a call. It's just a lot easier to press them now they they're touch-sensitive instead of traditional buttons.
I tend to hold the speaker to my ear and the rest of the phone slightly away from my face so as to avoid pressing buttons inadvertently. (This also avoids having a screen with a face print on it afterwards!)

I've never had mine show H, and i'm often in sheffield which is a fairly big city in the UK, only ever 3G. Perhaps the newer firmware accepts HSDPA at a lower signal level than the older firmware?
