Well if you can find a bug free phone that has the same features and battery life that the K850i has...
I'll trade in my K850i for it...
If you can't then I suggest you stop complaining...
If all of you are so unhappy with your K850's, get rid of them, SE isn't holding a gun to you head forcing you to keep them!
I'm getting sick of people complaining about the phone.

Don't whine about it forever, of course it is your money. Use it wisely in the future!

I think the comic below expresses my feelings better than words can. I know I've posted it before, but it only becomes more relevant with each passing day.

I got tired of waiting for this piece of shit to be fixed, so i sold it today!
Nice to get rid of it, it started to give me headache!
Gonna buy a N82 today

Mine doesn't. This is what happens when i take a photo from 4 feet away. I havent been able to take photos of people's faces since I got this phone. I would have returned the phone a long time ago if i had the luxury to do so. Also, the n82 has the same features, as well as gps and wifi.
PS, dont tell me to lower my iso settings. ive tried that

First like you said nobody is forcing me nothing...I do whatwhever i want.
And i'm going still to complain about this phone and about SE whatever you like it or not.
For me Sony is the best company of all. I have since Sony Vaio notebooks, Bravia Theathre and LCD all over my house, Blu Ray Devices, PS3 etc. Have and use Sony Ericsson since 2002.
T68i > T610 > K700i > K750i > K800i > K850i.
And my disapointed about the company (Sony Ericsson only, not Sony) becouse since it have more market share, and the profits only grow, they are making worse cellphones and more buggy than ever... Really a shame...

Buying a N82 will not solve your problem if you are a SE customer, you will very soon miss the built quality, materials and the original SE menus...
Ask someone who tried like me with a N95! it didn't last 1 month before I sold it and returned to SE world with a K850
Also NOT ALL K850 have bugs ONLY a few, mine has 037 FW and is rocking without any bugs! and if you think one second that the N82 has not Bugs...you are very mistaken

You are totally right... with bugs or not. I'm very used to the SE Desing. The good materials and stylish phones. The good quality and easy to use menus... etc.. I think that Sony Ericsson have the best software.. in beauty and easy to use.. Somes love the Symbian, maybe is really good for who likes to use several progams etc.. But i think is ugly slow and complicated...

Answer these for me:
1. What firmware do you have?
2. What are your camera settings?
3. Have you tried cleaning the light sensor?
4. How do you take your photos? (How do you use the button when taking the shot)
Thanks,

The battery life on the K850 is absolutely appaling!! I only get 2 or 3 days max out of it, I easlily got 5 out of my K800!!

2. everything is auto. ive tried changing just about every setting in the phones camera with little success
3. yes
4. holding the shutter button half-way down until the green box appears. i know how to take photos. this phone's camera functionality is simply broken. im glad yours works, but most peoples dont

Well, moving from one mobile manufacturer to Sony Ericsson, 3-4 days of battery life from power use (10-15 photo's a day with flash), 1 hour of calls, 10-15 sms is very impressive compared to 10-12 hours of very similar use from the other mobile manufacturer. So yes, good battery life. My K850i has never died on me when I needed it.

Now it says that there is no new update for my phone. so like before this means they are updating the servers right now.
maybe today or until tomorow we are going to have the new expected firmware!!

Hey guys,
I noticed something a bit awkward with the K850i.
For those with Velvet blue K850i's, (greens can also try this), when you take a picture, does the focus sound play a bit weird? It seems like the volume starts at a very low level then it goes to normal after a split second. This also applies to music you play.

Mine use to make weird sound when focusing.
3 of which I had did and the 2 others it was fine.... all on same firmware... 037
Cheers

Yeah, because right now I have a green and a blue one on my hands, and well, can't decide which one to get rid of

Hi Dupet,
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't implying that you didn't know how to use your phone, I was trying to eliminate the common causes of bad pictures. But it really looks like there is something wrong with your phone.
How did you clean the light sensor? I used a toothpick to gently remove any dust/etc that was there and that solved my issue. Now I have set my phone to ISO100. It isn't perfect, but it gives me better colors.
Hope you can sort your handset out!

This is certainly a firmware problem. I've had 4 different firmwares in the same phone, two branded firmwares and two unbranded, the problem with the sync-ing of the internal volume controller and actually playing the sound has occurred on 2 of those 4 firmwares (1 branded and one unbranded). I'm now on Voda's R1DA038 firmware and all is good. No volume lag. I suspect it's something that'll be sorted with future firmwares.
Posted by obentou
Well hopefully it is a firmware problem. My Green and Blue K850i's are both on R1CA037 and only the Blue one demonstrates this peculiarity.
Posted by killsta
My unbranded blue K850 on 037 does this funny focus sound also.
My 1st blue K850 didn't do it though.
Odd.

Does this hamper the functionality of taking photos or listening to music?

the sounds (keypad etc.) do start at a low volume at first, but then goes to a normal volume quickly. I believe stepping up the volume like this is done to prolong the life of the speaker.

I'd just like to say my battery fills up to 100%. When it was charging the battery indicator still didnt show full battery but when I checked the percents were 100. But I did monitor the progress and maybe if I waited longer there would be 1 or 2% less.
I mention this, because I heard that some of you have problems filling the battery 100%. Maybe you just don't catch the rigt moment.
Btw, the FW is 038.

I'm sorry but I don't think you're familiar with the term "appalling" not to mention the qualifier "absolutely"... Try an HTC TyTN and you'll know what's appalling - I was lucky to get 10 HOURS out of the phone!!! HOw about the famous iPHone??? If you don't charge it DAILY you can forget about it! 2-3 days is quite reasonable considering how many features the phone has. I'm happy I can get a day and a half out of it considering I'm using ActiveSync with PUSH during the daytime.

On my third K850 (Soon to be a fourth!) as I have been getting the "Operation Failed" errors and the phone switches itself off and hangs quite a lot....
According to vodafine there was a batch which had erros in the soiftware so I have had it replaced 3 times now and still getting the same erros!
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Any good programs to put on my phone? Just installed "MyPhoneExplorer" and it is so much better than the Sony software!

Hi,
Are you using an branded phone or a generic?
The firmware on the generic (R1CA037) is a little slower and the battery life is better but alot more stable than the latest branded firmware (R1DA038).
I think the generic models get the SE firmware, but the branded ones get custom firmware that is specified by the network, (Vodafone, 02, etc...).
They pay SE to do their customizations for them, hence the delay of generic firmware.
I prefer the generic firmware because I believe that the developers at SE are not paid to include functionality that isn't 100% and are not rushed to perfect the original functionality of the phone.
I'd rather have 1 great firmware update, rather than 3-4 crappy ones...

The only other way to get round this is to completely debrand your phone using Davinci.
When you got your phone from voda, did you update the firmware straight away?
If your firmware is R1CA029 then no matter what firmware you install after using SEUS, the applications will fail. R1CA029 has a problem with Java and a boot Java issue, this is why R1CA037 was released a month or so later.
However R1CA037 on voda caused major problems and so R1DA038 got released very quickly on Voda to resolve the issues.
yashen@
Regarding the O2 branding, O2 branding has 1 o2 icon where play now should be. Other than this i have generic firmware and generic branding.
The reason why o2 gained R1DA038 quickly, was due to the ammount of returns o2 were sending back to SE, just like voda etc.
as o2 and voda have millions of customers and most of the phones are purchased through these companies, SE updated the firmware to stop the amount of returns they were getting.

How do I find out what version firmware I currently have?
Does davinci totally wipe the phone?
I cant actually get into SEUS on my PC as it comes up with an error on my PC when I try and start it up! (Not my day!)
What do you reccomend?

If you are having problems with SEUS then i would check that you have the latest version of SEUS, Java and no firewall problems.
most of the info regarding the K850i is on the first page.
However regarding the firmware
Accessing Firmware Information
To find out which firmware revision your phone currently has installed, select Menu > Settings > General > Update service > Software version. For more detailed software versioning information, perform the following:
>*<<*<*
Where < and > represents clicking the D-Pad left and right keys respectively.
Davinici will debrand the phone completely.
Posted by BOISAJTH
My firmware is R1CA029... Old?
Ill check the Java thing now as SEUS is the latest one....
Posted by BOISAJTH
Right I understand guess Ill have to debrand my phone....
If I use davinci does it just "debrand" or wipe everything, if not what do i loose?
Will it cause me any problems with vodafone?
Posted by darrengf
R1CA029 is the problem firmware.
SEUS on Voda will update the phone to R1DA038.
It should cause you a problem with voda, however you can debrand your phone
http://www1.davinciteam.com/K850/index.html
I would check this out first, but everything you do will be at your own risk.

just out of curiosity, is it possible to go from 037 back to 029?
Posted by BOISAJTH
Im a bit confused!
When I get SEUS working, and i update my phone to 38 why will it still cause an issue? Is it because I had Version 29 installed originally?
Posted by BOISAJTH
SEUS is the latest download available and I have checked my JAVA and that is also the latest available...
Grr no idea why it won't install!!
Posted by darrengf
Im not sure if Voda has removed this feature. but if you go onto your phone and go into phone settings, do you not have a update section in there?
Posted by BOISAJTH
Nope it isn't there had to do the >*<<*<* to find it out.... (cool shortcut tho!)
Vodafone are a waste of space, they have no idea and the people on hte phone just want to give you another phone thinking it will "solve the isue" ffs!
Posted by kcassidy
I think we will get to page 150 before we see this update
Posted by darrengf
I know this may sound bad, but get a new phone from voda and then update the firmware.
to be honest, if you get a new phone then it should now come with the latest firmware or one would hope so.
The prob is with voida hack the software on the phone so bad that it ends up causing more problems further down the line.
