I have checked this thread 4 times today alone...
Intersting to see how this firmy is going to be...
I think this firmy is the most awaited one by many...till date!
Lets see how this all turns out within this month end...
Checked FOTA...nothing here...india 037 ..

Happy if the delay is to get the BEST firmy out of thier programming room..!

Until then can we discuss what and possible updates we will expect ?

My guess..
Faster media player
Improved java
More whiter or better display driver..
Still more faster cam..
MegaBass improvement..
Manual setting rememberence
Much better battery usage by firmy..
Cam driver improvement

Write your guesses

I think you covered all the things that i think really should be fixed but i don't dare guessing. And i'm not a pessimist but i don't think they have fixed all of the thing you have mentioned. But if they do i will be very happy!

What headset is that? I tried googling 'dsbh980' without success

I am thinking of getting an a2dp headset myself...

Hi, I recieved today an e-mail from SE support center and they write me that latest firmware for generic K850i is R1DA038. What a strange thing, SEUS shows me- Your firmware is latest- R1CA037 no need update!

Posted by fullforce
And since when has SE customers service given a straight answer? And i mean a single consistent answer that you would get from every Se customers service worldwide? My guess is they don't know. And it would be better if they just said that they don't know(wich some of them acutally do)if the don't know. But over and all they should have clearer guidlines on what they should answer and under what circumstanses they should give a specific answer. AND maybe have better communications with the different departments of SE to ensure straighter answers. Sure the developers of a new firmware maybe doesn't know excactly when it will be ready but then that is what Se customers service should tell the customers when asked!

just updated my Orange UK K850i to 038, and so far does seem faster, however as people have already mentioned im disappointed by the loss of the large clock.

EDIT: however, upon a quick test, the camera's colour representation and speed seem a lot better

My Guess:
Faster media player
Manual setting rememberence
Much better battery usage by firmy..
Cam driver improvement

Posted by jinksss
Whatever it is. It's gonna be good.

Cam drivers need lotsa work, general tweaking here and there, and most importantly headset compatibilities.
I have a HPM-82 currently and the 850 doesnt even detect my headset.
Need new FW!

Posted by KopStar
The fact of the matter is SE shouldn't have us wound up like idiots waiting for a firmware that restores functionality that the phone should have had in the first place! (I know that I have a W910i, but we'll get ours when you do!)

I got my phone to watch movies on and to listen to music with, and even tho the phone is marketed to do these things, it's not too hot at them...
I feel really sorry for the K850i owners who have issues with taking pics, cos thats a core element of the phone!
New firmware NOW!

Posted by The Barron
@ANDYBRAD
havent got to the games yet, but as you say things load quicker, the media bar and the camera even seems to boot quicker. Havent got marble madness as my orange one only came with crappy demos installed, altho Zuma was so addictive i bought it

Posted by Terminatorak
Hey. What big clock has everyone lost on 038? And someone should start a petition, SE are taking the biscuit...

Posted by The Barron
@Terminatorak
lost the option for clock size in display, the little one that displays above the date is the only one, the second option is the large clock which displays semi transparently behind the date at the bottom of the display

@the barron

ill sort you out with marble madness if you like

My headset (82) has worked perfectly with my 850 since i got it!!!!! not ome issue!

Posted by The Barron
yeah my hbh-pv700 bluetooth headset hasnt had a problem even though the SE website doesn't list it as compatible

I bought a HPM-82 the other day and it doesn't even get recognised when I plug it into my K850i, it says on the website its compatible, very annoyin...

Posted by kenvi348
I never had any problems with black pictures when I take a photo ... I think it's not a firmware problem but people who position their finger too much near the flash ...

I hope this new firmware will be coming very soon and I hope that it will be increase the speed of the phone.

No, I still have the large clock, but I also don't see any improvement of 038 over the 037 FW.

Posted by The Barron
yeah the loss of the large clock only seems to affect those on Orange UK 038 firmware

Posted by Terminatorak
I wouldn't advise anyone with 037 to upgrade to 038, the negative of battery life reduction out weighs the improvements. In my opinon 038 is actually worse than 037...bring on 039! (Or whatever, hopefully something like 050! With major improvements)

Posted by The Barron
obviously i can't comment on battery life having only upgraded today, but i think the choice to upgrade comes down to what you use the phone for, i think if you value the camera and need it at its best so far then upgrade to 038, but if you value battery life then stick with 037

I can't believe you should have to make a choice which you would prefer!
Can't SE get anything right?

No, they can't. All they can do is screw things up..

After experiencing all these problems... and the slow actions on releasing firmware, I think SE has already turned away many customers...

As a SE user for the last 3 generations, I'm disappointed too... If K850i software is not ready, they should not have released the phone...

Posted by fullforce
SE, and other manufacturers, have since a good while back made us customers, beta testers for their firmware. It's very bad!
(and don't make the software comparision with windows because it's not the same at all)

Posted by iqmaster158
exactly..ive got iPod classic 80gb and its almost like with SE ..waiting forever for new and even more buggy FW ..where is this policy heading..

I very much doubt that they have turned that many customers away... Let's face it, this community doesn't even account for 1% of 1% of the total SE user base and we're the loudest to scream when we find the tiniest bug. Also - not all phones have ALL the problems listed here even if they have the same firmware - I for one (037) have had no problem with the camera quality but I think it could be faster in response indeed. I also don't have the volume control zoom/picture/volume control problem mentioned in this thread.

Most users out there won't get the next firmware update for at least a month and that is IF they have configured the FOTA to remind them and check once a month...

I have a car charger and the phone doesn't detect it, though it thankfully does charge. From memory my old K750i would automatically switch to the car profile when you plugged in the car charger.

The biggest problems I'd like fixed:
- Camera flash tweaks. I don't get as many dark photos now, but you can't use the flash unless you are at least a meter away otherwise the picture is washed out and white. Macro mode doesn't seem to make any difference for me. Day time photos can turn out quite good. The optics is the real problem... there is only so much software can fix.
- Bestpic I use a lot and often it takes 9 photos exactly the same. Could be a timing thing.. like not waiting for the camera to finish focusing etc?
- Megabass creates distortion, though that's minor for me.
- General performance improvements.
- Video recording improvements. The quality is very average, though what can you expect for 320x240? SE should have made it 640x480 resolution. (Strange that the video looks really good on screen when recording, but the recorded file is grainy/blocky).
- Media player glitches. eg. When using shuffle then using camera it repeats the same song over and over on occasion.

I've also been converting some videos and I must say they look very nice on the phone. The only problem I had was I can't watch the videos in landscape when I'm wearing my sunglasses as they are polarised making the screen look black LOL I find the screen is quite bright and vivid normally.

@Tervel
I truly think we are far more than 1% of 1% of the population that has the K850. Rather at least 30% of the total population that own a K850 and have some kind of bug problem(yes i'm guessing here but i think that esato is a good representation of SE owners). And if, as you said, we on esato are, in total only 1% of the SE owners and if, as i believe, that many of us have bugs then how many of the other SE-population would then have bugs? Hmm makes you think don't it. And the others out of the 99% that have problems with buggy firmware, that have bought such a hight tech phone as the K850, most ceartainly have done something about it- take their phone to the service centres, returned the phone or even sell it.

I don't say that SE really looses that many customer over this...but in the long run who knows. I just wantet to point out that are surely lots of people that experience bugs. Even those who doesn't hang out on esato. And i think it's bad form to let us be the true beta testers!
If you read the threads here you'll see. And then we havent mentioned the creaky cover issue and the dust in the camera housing issue!

But i'm sticking to my K850 hoping that they will fix this and lift the K850 to its true potential!

Buy the new housing from somewhere like cnn.cn? Thats what i plan to do

Posted by The Barron
never attempted to replace a housing...

could be worth a try for those smooth looks tho

Posted by darrengf
The black and Silver phone comes to o2 in March.

Not sure if Other nerworks will get it straight away.

May be an exclusive to o2 first?

Posted by Duran
well its jan23
New day new chance for a new firmware -.- ;]

Posted by darrengf
Theres always a chance and i always hope.

New Firmware is just round the corner

Posted by fullforce
I feel/guess that i won't arrive until next week at the earliest. I can wait a couple of weeks more providing that the firmware is really good!
And if it doesn't arrive soon i will take my phone to a service centre and demand that they fix my phone so that i can run my java's and games(probably they will roll back the firmware or do somekind of "hard" flash)

It would be nice to see it today, but i doubt it will come.

So let's go on strike everybody, and sit here by our computers with our usb-cables i our right hand and try to update the firmware every half hour, until they deliver the new firmware!
Nobody go to their work or school! This is more important don't you think??
ps i'm partly joking since i am anticipating this...really!

This Cnn it's really original products or generic ones??

Posted by kcassidy
I assume the things that say OEM (original equipment manufacturer?) are original products.

Such as:

and

so do I and most K850i users on this forum, even in the world

Haha so lets sit here tightly screwed onto our chairs and waiiit. It's 03.26 in the night here and i'm hungry....but no! I won't leave the computer...never!

Nice fullforce..

Me too..,

Se should have had a news board or site to announce thier position on the next firmy...that would have been nice...
ONE QUESTION TO ALL..
Does se know that this thread ever exists?

Posted by fullforce
Now i'm in bed, still waiting for the new firmware...better try FOTA now! :) Well SE are at least very aware of esato and i think also this thread(market research you know) But if you ask them i suppose they will deny it. But i think they should take head to all the bugs that is reported here. And maybe they do...to some extent. But i think that they have test panels that reports bugs and other problems.

This message was posted from a K850i

Posted by naveensiva
Surely somebody should be telling them these bugs from here...or someone there..may be head of the programming dept should have been going thru all these threads..simple coz few programmers cant figure out all our bugs..
If not they should have fixed it before the release of firmy...coz this eq rememberence bug should have been visible right in front of them..

Anyway i soon se starts somekinda site where people like us can report bug..it will be easy for them also...

Posted by fullforce
Sorry but SE will never start a site where you could report bugs for every one to read. That would mean that SE officially admits that they have bugs and/or a faulty firmware. But as i said earlier: i do hope that they are reading theese threads and learn from them!
