I freakin HATE that message! I've had it with my W810i, I had it every month on my K790a ... just about every other SE that has FOTA ability I've come across NEVER works!

SE needs to FIX their servers that host FOTA or just simply remove it; as this is an insult!

FOTA it worked for my K800i and I upgraded twice this way and also works for my girlfriend's W880i. For me it is very easy to upgrade this way and I think it is a very useful. Once they released a new firmware for K800i first by FOTA and after one week or something like that on SEUS. It was pretty cool for me.

Mine didn't work on either K800 or K850. As I've understood some operators might block this service so maybe it isn't SE's fault (don't they have allready lots of bugs? )

When was 038 released? Was it in jan? Could that be the performance firmware? Are you guys sure it will be released in jan?

Still nothing here...

Posted by ANDYBRAD
thats what im thinking. 38 was released in jan. and it did speed things up a fair bit for me at least

Posted by The Barron
038 was technically released in Decemeber it was just that some operators didnt realease it till Jan

Of course it's not 038 the long awaited FW,it would have been available for non-branded K850...

Afternoon all,

My first Esato post... I am using the K850i with 037 O2 firmware, and I often find that after taking a photo using the flash the object/person has been illuminated far too much and the object is mainly a big white spot. Does anyone know if this is something to be addressed by the next update?

Cheers,
David.

In this case - it has already been addressed as a known issue. Whether it'll be addressed or not remains to be seen. My experience is that if you adjust your distance to the subject (a little more than a hands distance away) you will get improved performance. Sorry - I don't think the phone is made for those awesome "Myspace" self portraits LMAO...

Try changing the volume after zooming a pic
Try keeping the EQ settings (Here, it even forgets it after changing song, not only when closing/opening the mediaplayer like the 1st post in this thread suggests)

to those who are on FW 037

Guys can you also try this

open media player then exit enter camera mode then while playing media zoom in and zoom out take picture zoom in and zoom out exit camera go back to media player try to change the volume for some strange reason mine removes the volume bar at the top really annoying and needs reboot

Happens with me

HOw often do you need to take a picture while playing media exactly? I'm sorry I just don't see the need to multitask THAT much... I'd say the proper thing that SHOULD happen is that the media gets paused when entering camera mode (I'm assuming you're listening to music)

PS - just tired it (037) and mine works fine. Music playing, minimized player, opened camera, zoom in/out, took a pic, zoom in/out of the preview, closed camera, went to media and I can still raise/lower volume and the volume bar is present. The music did pause at the moment when I was taking the picture but it resumed once the picture was taken

Has the build quality of K850 improved over the first batch?(concerning materials, creaky sounds, battery cover etc)

Posted by vegetaleb
Nop!
But as we are in a software topic I think the very latest production doesn't have the famous bugs...

Posted by The Barron
well ive had my k850 for a few weeks and my battery cover isn't loose and it doesnt creak, so touch wood itll stay like that

buildt date is 07w44

Oh, yeah... go sony ericsson, go, go, go! If this forum never existed I wonder where all this informations will be? Why they don't say anything about the software releases that they've made, will make, some sort of change log and a bug tracker...
Maybe, just maybe, someone should remember SE that they need software to run hardware and, above all, people buys their products for the software too...
One point down for Sony in my list.. and really hope that the next firmware will be up soon and rise the expectations... (and they call it flagship... of bugs maybe)

K850 is not the king of bugs, we should stop these exaggerations, shall we?
#037 soft is pretty stable and those multi tasking bugs we have discovered are just minor problems, 89% of the users wont meet in daily use.
EVERY and EACH mobile in the market has its bugs, esp the new comers.
This phone is not an exception and it is not any worse than the rest.
Give SE the proper time to make the adjustments and present with the best debugged soft, possible. Rushing it would only harm us all...

Ok, so I may be overreacted but I think in that case the test scenarios for bug testing @SE (if any) are strange. I mean, how can you not test these or say that everything is fine, go for production without releasing a bug fix for them asap, or asap is 3 months?

- The Media player speed has been increased when dealing with many entries. (Yeah, right, I have 68 mp3's and when the media player is playing the phone barely opens the GMail application or just about any other java application)
- Shuffle functionality in the Media Player repeats the same track until you manually skip to the next.
- If the phone goes into standby whilst viewing photos, resuming the phone isn't possible unless you exit this mode.
- The zoom buttons both zoom into a picture and change the volume if you are listening to music whilst browsing pictures.

Yesterday I was showing my K850 to a colleague and when he tried to do a photo, guess what... the shutter didn't open... It took 4 hard reboots, 8 normal restarts and about half hour to be able to take a photo...
Don't get me wrong, I love SE, all my phones are SE but either give me such troubles. Ooohhh and those pictures taken with K800...

I'm a software engineer/programmer and on all the projects i have been on with my company, things like this would never go into live or production.

When bugs as severe as this occur, people are made to work day/night and weekends to fix it for a new release!

Im sure the SE team are working hard, but i don't think they have their priorities right, they are concentrating on the bugs which will affect new customers in buying the phone (to make more money). Not so much thinking about the experienced and more higher end users who want to use all the functions on the phone. The people who want the phone to perform as well as it looks on paper.

Because, spec wise, this phone should be on the top boss, but as we all the know the software is severely ruining the reputation.

As a huge SE fan, i am being patient and hoping, that someone at SE can hear our issues and put this into action.

Im sure, actually, im positive its not that hard to fix the bugs and test them before the release. (Hopefully this is what they are doing now, hence the delay in the big release).

Posted by kcassidy
What delay, did Sony say it will be here on the 20th or did people just assume it would? It may come any day now. I don't mind much really, my week37, unbranded 037 k850i is fine and i experience few amount of problems, few times a week maybe, but then again, i am not a heavy user.

Posted by ashyk36
i have to say. my k850i is very stable. the only thing that irritates me is the slowness of the phone that is why i have put it away until the next upgrade and now using my k750i, hopefully itl go a lil faster and then il use it again

K750i RULES!!!!!

Posted by The Barron
@kcassidy

if my memory servers me correct, someone emailed SE asking about a new firmware and their team said the release would be on the 20th Jan.

If my memory is working properly there is a copy of the email somewhere in the past pages of this thread

I am now checking this thread every few hours or so to see if the new firmware is out yet, this is getting ridiculous.

Is there a website where SE post releases of new firmwares?

Gotta love smart asses.

I asked for a website (the last S in SEUS stands for Service) where they announce that a new firmware is out so you can use SEUS to upgrade the firmware

Someone from centrumse.pl called to SE Call Centre and a woman from CC says that they have problems with servers and new firmware will be released 23-24 Jan

Posted by kenoby
Wild guess, when 24th arrives, there will be another excuse....

This waiting for the new FW reminds me of watching Lost...

hello ve just joined im jus wanting to query why the unbranded firmwares do not get the updates which branded versions do?

R1DA038 branded (more up to date) not able to be downloaded.

R1CA037 unbranded as on my phone.

foremostly the issue which dampens the phone for me is the manual preset on the equaliser does not stay on if you either exit media or select a new artist/album. the preset stays on if yu ar shuffling, or on continuous playback, so its only a minor niggle for me.

jus got the dsbh980 stereo bluetooth headset & its fantastic.

my apologies if the question has been answered already

cheers

who spread the rumour that SE going to provide the firmware update on 20th of Jan?

Posted by vegetaleb
038 FW was aked by operators because of the many complaints they had, anyway some people here would say that 038 is not a good FW because it reduces battery life from 4 days to 2 days...
SE will release a better version than 038 wich was apparently made fastly and still buggy, that's why they preffer to let us wait a bit more
