I REALLY hope the next car you buy is made by sony ericsson

Haha, thats funny.

anyway, seriously, should we be expecting a major firmware to come out today? because it does not say anywhere in the sony website that its coming out on the 20th, only says janruary....

Posted by Sebby
Come on guys, do you really think the firmware will come out today, on a Sunday? No one knows when it's going to be released, probably not even Sony Ericsson! I'm waiting for this as much as the next person, but it'll come when it comes.

Posted by vegetaleb
Nobody tried today?
Me I will not do it since I have a very stable 037 and dont want to take a risk of upgrading to the ''n95 battery FW'' aka 038,so I am waiting to someone in need (bugs)come here and say: voila! I upgraded to 039!

Ye I just tried 1min ago but nothing (im on 037)

In China also nothing..

Does anyone know if this firmware update is really ever going to happen ?
3 months of waiting for a decent fix is starting to feel like a lifetime now, grrrrrrrrrr.

No It is definately on January... ... ... Sony said themselves because they need to compatiblize their bluetooth portable speaker (MBS-100, I think it was...) with the k850i and other models....

Posted by marv0083
I heard a firmware should be out on Jan 20?

any update?

Posted by Kennif
Whats Confusing me a bit is, I use my 038 o2 K850i with a MBR-100 bluetooth receiver with no issues at all, so why would it not work with the new ball speaker thing?

Posted by ziupo
Ok, january but you know book store today exactly? It can be january 21.

Posted by vbayma
That date that they anouncied to be on 20 January was by some SE Service Centres... Like someone else already told dificult they to work on a Sunday.. I Think a little dificult to be tomorow... 21 becouse if they sholud realease tomorow why they didin't realease friday?

But my guess for certain that is going to be until the end of this week...

And yes is going to be January.... KNow that Sony Ericsson is so crazy as us to have this firmware realeased!!! Becouse k850i isn't all that popular becouse of these bugs...

Just be glad you havent got any problems with it! I got those speakers and they just stop playing music suddenly.... maybe its the firmware on the phone ... maybe its the speakers itself.... who knows...

Anyway here is the link :

http://www.sonyericsson.com/c[....]s/overview/mbs-100?cc=us&lc=en

And it clearly states just under "specifications" that there will be another firmware this month.

The firmware will not only fix the issue with these speakers, but other things as well.. As DarrenGF has previously posted there is alot of information about the firmware on the WhitePaper.

All I can say is... I hope the new FW is released soon and I hope it is THE Big One SE have been mentioning...

PS. Hi Omen... Welcome to Esato! Im kinda new here as well lol...

I'm on 037 too and pretty stable also, only prob i think is about the slow media manager and the call list bug...

Posted by Duran
no problems? lol
Try changing the volume after zooming a pic
Try keeping the EQ settings (Here, it even forgets it after changing song, not only when closing/opening the mediaplayer like the 1st post in this thread suggests)

Posted by obentou
lol.

We know there are tons of problems with the firmware and things we want to be improved.

I guess we can be fortunate right now we've got a great looking phone that can make calls and SMS. Not to mention 3G, and music. I can survive this for now... this update better be the best one ever.

Im dont mean that my K850i is all working but only the bugs that i mentioned are really anoying me... As you told the Eq issue is really bad too...

Posted by fullforce
Hear hear! I'll drink to that! Oh wait it's sunday...no drinks...damn!
Yes this firmware better be good! It's insane not to have a phone that can't even do the most fundamental things, like opening the camera, use any kind of java apps and drains the battery. And what's more insane is that we, in many cases, have to wait for´months to get i fixed!

I'm on unbranded 037 and my EQ settings are remebered from when I first set them a couple of weeks ago. The phone its totally stable and my only complaints are the sometimes sluggish media interface and camera quaility.

Posted by obentou
Hmm, you must be really an exception.

How is the camera quality poor? No phone camera will rival any dedicated digital camera, so take other 5MP phones on the market as a comparison. I think the K850i will be ONE of the best out there. I've personally owned a Nokia N95 8GB, and although it takes pics appealing to the eye, the warped colour reproduction was terrible.

My EQ settings are never remembered... unless I want them at default, they're remembered as default aha.

What do you mean by the warped colour? I also seen the pics of a N95 the slim one and it looks more colourful than the k850i. thats what photos should be shouldn't it? Good looking...

Yay got myselfa phone on the forumS! oops...not yet.... Yeah I got it!

@shawon

i think they mean that the post processing on the n95 that nokia built in oversaturates the colours beyond what they do actually look like

Posted by obentou
Yes, that's exactly what I mean. When I take pictures, I want it to have good colour accuracy. I can post-process it myself easily in photoshop, and of course, say it was taken by the K850i. The N95 just does it for you.

Anyways, I don't want to start a N95 vs. K850i war, but besides that, the colour reproduction on the screen of the N95 is absolutely way off. Compare the K850i to the N95 side by side and you'll appreciate the color temperature that the K850i has. The N95 has a billion more features than the K850i, but I am a picky guy. Got rid of the N95 because the colours were just so bad.

you people should rather learn the phone before complaining abt it..
i've no prob with it... no eq. and no call list bug and camera is simply one of the best.

Posted by The Barron
the only problem i have with the camera is the flash issue that everyone has experienced, other than that with the right settings i find the camera very good and great at picking out certain details, there are only a few niggles with it. and firmware will fix this in time.

By the way, on a side note, does anyone know how to get SEUS to work from behind a http proxy? unfortunately my University has a http proxy on all accomodation rooms and this limits what i can access

Greetings to the community
I already have a k850 with no software problems at all but I am not satifsied with its build quality (creaky sounds, loose battery cover). Its manufacturer date is 07W40.
I have the opportunity to buy a new one at a very affordable price and I want to know if these hardware problems have been resolved in the newest releases. Is it possible to get one with good build quality but with software issues, given the fact that is newer than mine? What would you reccomend me to do?Has anyone had any experience with newer phones? Is the build quality getting any better?
Thanks in advance.

@ obentou

''How is the camera quality poor?''
When I take photos on mine I find the textures to be one big blur, like if I take a picture of my cat, the fur looks like an orange blur, no detail and the images show a lot of noise. I try all kinds of settings and yes you do get a few 'perfect' shots every now and again but you never 'perfect' shots all the time. I know the hardware is limiting and you can't polish a turd but SE could at least buff it up a little.

Posted by obentou
Well I understand what you mean, there are some pictures that I wish the quality can improve on, but it's still a phone camera. There are limitations to CMOS sensors, if you really want to have the best phone camera I would recommend the iMobile 902 or the Sharp 903SH.

I don't want the best camera phone, I want the best out of the camera on this phone. The fact it takes some good shots shows it has some potential and I think a little fine tuning with the software might make images just that little bit better.

Posted by The Barron
i totally agree, when i first got my k800 the shots were disapointing but with the firmware releases SE made it into a truly fantastic camera phone which took great pics, i only want them now to do the same to the k850

Posted by lun4r
Ahhhh its 21th january already...
SE, where is the big bang firmware...??

Yeah where is it?!

come on SE do us proud lets have a massive firmware today that fixes most bugs, improves the flash sync and speeds up the interface more.

hey a man can hope?

and does anyone know if SEUS can work behind a http proxy?

This info was posted in this site about the new K850i Quicksilver Edition:

http://cellpassion.mobi/2008/[....]quicksilver-black-edition.aspx

And look this: The Firmware will go out this week.

Sony Ericsson is set to release the K850i in an all new colour – Quicksilver Black. The features will remain the same and only the trimmings will change from Luminous Green and Velvet Blue to a more sophisticated silver one. Talking about features, Sony Ericsson is also expected to release a much needed firmware upgrade for the K850i within a week’s time, which will enhance its performance and fix some bugs as well.

Posted by The Barron
oooh pretty, i want one. Damn UK Orange never gonna let me swap my blue for that one

Posted by obentou
Oh, so nice, so nice. I've got a green one and can't wait till that Silver one comes out.

I am trying fota here in india 037 and still no release so far..but am kinda hesitant to do a update after someone said that media player is going to be stripped off..i bought mainly coz of PSP style media manager..

Guys another thing ..
I did a 3 hour charge with phone switched off and did a 10 hour charge with phone switched on..but still it shows 99% only never 100%...could this be a firmware bug? Or faulty battery? Here in india..service personale are not so talented..afaik..
What could be the problem?
Waiting really for the much hyped firmware...

Hello,

Has someone tried the FOTA service? Until mine was giving me the "you run the latest software" message but now it's saying "could not download update". My operator, Vodafone Romania didn't allow me to update OTA on either the old K800 or my new K850 so I think that the update is there, somewhere... I've tried on SEUS and it said that I have the latest firmware...
I'm on a unbranded 037 Adriatic in case you wonder.

P.S.
This was my first post here and I would like to also say hello to this wonderful community.

I tried FOTA, but nothing new. I am on Orange and I used to update my K800i via FOTA so it should work.

By the way, I have the same firmware like you R1CA037 ADRIATIC, because I am in Bucharest too

I freakin HATE that message! I've had it with my W810i, I had it every month on my K790a ... just about every other SE that has FOTA ability I've come across NEVER works!

SE needs to FIX their servers that host FOTA or just simply remove it; as this is an insult!

Just checked O2 and there is nothing, us O2 UK customers are usually the first people to get the updates so will let you know when I can get at it

Nothing on Central Europe f/w too.

@ florinpatan - welcome m8.

@ capuera - I'm glad to find you here too m8

@ dupet - very funny pics. )))

FOTA it worked for my K800i and I upgraded twice this way and also works for my girlfriend's W880i. For me it is very easy to upgrade this way and I think it is a very useful. Once they released a new firmware for K800i first by FOTA and after one week or something like that on SEUS. It was pretty cool for me.
