@shawon
yeah, the balls stop when you hit C in media - I'd say it's a feature rather than a bug, in case they were annoying you or something - they start up again after a few secs.
Don't know why they are blue/orange for photo and white for everything else tho - maybe that's my theme?
I don't think having the music stop when you check imei is the end of the world, unless you check your imei many times a day!!

Everyone noticed the call list bug?

I have an K850i unbranded with the R1CA037. Some times the call list stops working... no matter what number you call it doesnt appear on the call list, and on that screen that should apear Calling "Victor" or Calling "Janice". It apears only Calling.

To fix it you need to clean all the call list... But soon its get back again...

By calling it DPY flashing you are kind of misrepresenting what it actually is. From what I can tell its a simple BINFS format before flash. OS gets removed but the bootloader stays intact (unlike SEUS which does not perform the BINFS format).

DPY is the acronym SE use to show what region your phone was sold to. All phones have a DPY code on the IMEI label under the battery cover and this code defines the region the phone should come from.

EMMA uses the CDA code to select your appropriate firmware for flashing. This is how SESC can tell if you have flashed the phone with a different region's firmware. They would be able to look at the DPY code and CDA code and see that they don't match up. That is the only use I have seen for the DPY.

I have changed the CDA of my phone with the Davinci, so it says i can use normally SEUS , but if i go to a SESC or use EMMA maybe they can mess up with my phone changing it to the original CDA Again?

I"m sorry but who really needs to look at their IMEI while listening to music??? I think people are going a little extreme LOOKING for bugs....

Relax bro, that's what SE always doin on their first fone release, even with the great n legendary ol' k750i...

i bought one about 2.5 years ago (few weeks after it was released) and what happened? it hangs frequently and randomly restarts itself that i have to trade it 3 times and perform FW update twice to make it the better fone until now...

who knows, after few decent updates (just like the k750i), the k850i will become another legendary SE fone, we'll just wait n see

For me K750i was really a masterpiece... People wouldn't belive that i had an 2.0mp phone in hands... The K700i was also an excelent phone too...There where the times SE really could make a big diference betwen its competitors..

For me K750i gave me more good feelings than my K800i wich was a very good phone also.. But not so good in desing...

K850i gives a litle remembers of my K750i becouse of the form factor i think....more wider and shorter and the led photo light wich i use a lot...Better themes etc..

Well I hope they really fix all the problems SOON. I've had my lesson thou, never buy a phone that's not at least one year old

I bought the k750i less then 2 years ago, and it was perfect from the first day on. Not a single bug, maybe froze twice in the whole time, while the k850i froze two times in a single day, and that is just after I updated the FW from 037 to 038! The photos aren't as better from the k750i as the Mpix difference is... it's almost the same Also the LED light was better before.

BTW, is there any way of taking photos from the front (UMTS) camera?

My K850i never froze and I have R1CA037 ADRIATIC unbranded...the only problem is with the quality of the pictures, but if the january firmware will influence the battery I will never upgrade to it, because except the pictures I am happy with the phone.

Well, firstly I am not LOOKING for bugs ... It just happens so I have stumbled across this specific bug by surprise.

Secondly, not many people will be listening to music when they need to check their IMEI for any reason i admit, but a bug is still a bug, and it should be fixed.

Best to keep your giddy assumptions to yourself. It will be really helpful if you can provide information and facts.

my java-less problem gone, sent in for repair @SE Service center...can enjoy marble madness now...hehe,but still with 037 here...in singapore....i'll think i'll stick to 037 for now, since 038 is still buggy....the camera shutter stucked also solved...

For some reason my mates phone is not receiving texts. He's got a K850 on O2 (exactly the same as me, we're both with O2 online) but my phone is working fine.

I think he's got firmware 029 on his, I've got 038.

Any idea what the problem might be? Its obviously not a network problem so it's got to be phone related.

Only 2 days for Firms DAY...it's strange that nobody filtering details about this release, isn't it?

I hope news soon...one question, it is Confirmed by SE that this new FIRM have a Camera improves?

It's not looking to promising if you ask me. I've got a feeling this big fix is gona either arrive very late or it won't be any good. Or am I just a pesimist?

shawon > ever hear of the expression "Bigger fish to fry"? Bug might be a bug but it's so completely pointless to fixate on "what if?" situations that might and probably WILL never come up, I'd rather SE concentrates on fixing real life issues that affect every day usability and performance. So that is why I don't see a point in bringing up such minute issues...

Also the orb stopping is when pressing C is on 037 as well so I'd have to assume it's a function rather than a bug. See this is another presumed 'issue' that is being brought up...

Not only is it detected by T9, it also matches up the phone number as well. It's really innovative and saves tons of time looking up contacts!

I hate to say it but I'd hardly call it innovative considering that Windows Mobile devices have had these features (both alpha and by number) for 2-3 years. Not being nit-picky just don't want people to think that this is a great feature that SE thought up on their own...

This is fixed now. He put his sim card in my phone and my sim in his phone, then swapped them back round again and it works fine now! Very strange!!

me neither. everyone will probably be at home in bed after a long week of fixing bugs.

i agree. i brought a k750i on the day it came out, i had to swao it three times before i found the one right for me. i no the bugs were not as extreme on the k750i as the k850i, but thats probably because they are using a brand new platform, once they get it right the phone will be a good 1.

however one thing SE need to do is get the phone to work fast, my k750i i will open messages instantaneously whereas k850i seems to want to take days opening my messages, otherwise k850i is a really nice phone

I hope they will fix the monstruous chromatic aberration that changes even blue sky into purple sky !!!

Posted by ][nquisitor
I have the 037 unbranded too, SEUS does not allow me to upgrade,
i also look forward to an upgrade. Not that my has ever presented a bug yet,
but there are 3 things i would like to be fixed:

-the horrible performance with 3D applications, its not natural, K850 has superior hardware, esp its GPU, its surely a matter of drivers, they need to fix this without sacrificing the battery
-the color balance of the camera, yes it is truth about the purple color appear everywhere and it cannot be fixed since it a hardware issue (the quality of the lens), but SE can fix it using false color balance and higher contrast,
thats a quick fix and the reason K850 seems so blurred comparing to the rest on the 5mp phones in reviews...
-and finally, i have a fools hope for bringing back the old k750 function of typing sms, using the volume/zoom button to select the third or the second letter,
this function allowed me to write 2x times faster in my k750

I have gone through the old K850i White paper r2a (Aug 07 Released) and checked it with the K850 White Paper R3a (Jan 08 Released), this has just been released.

The paper is normally only release when changes have been or going to be made shortly to the firmware

Ok here are my findings

In R3A paper,
Copyright Protection – DRM
They have added, Microsoft DRM Janus, Microsoft DRM Camese

In R3A Paper
Music Player and Effects:
This has been removed completely

In R3A Paper
Video Call Time:
This has been increased to a Target of up to 2 hours and 30mins

In R3A Paper
Real Player 9 and 10 has been introduced to be supported by the K850. This in addition to Real player 8

In R3A Paper
Audio Encoding
Removal of AMR-WB+

In R3A Paper
Java 3D
This has been increased from JSR-139 to JSR-239

In R3A Paper
Video Telephony
If you are using your 5mb camera for a video call, Digital zoom has increased from 2x zoom to 16x zoom

There are other minor changes and some word corrections but thats it.

I still cant tell you when the release is going to take place, but i understand its quite soon.

Hope this helps everyone out

Also the following 4 phones have new firmwares coming out in the next couple of weeks

K630i, K850i, V640i, or W910i

I know it was mentioned before but was there any evidence proving existence of Quicksilver black edition? Like in this new whitepaper..

Posted by baste07
the latest fW is still not available for all

@kenoby

The whitepaper mentions the colours of the k850i as green, blue and also mentions Midnight Black, so confirming existence of the new colour

Hi Folks
This is my First Post so I'll Keep it short. At what point can you remove your finger from the "C" key During a Firmware update, Recently Updated my O2 K850i from 029 to 038 Via SEUS, But held "C" the whole way through and My thumb was aching by the end (20 min - Well, felt like forever!!!)
Thanx.

Posted by vegetaleb
hahahahhahahahahhahaha!!
dude you remove your finger from C once the phone has lighted up

Posted by Kennif
Cheers. Was worried I would halt the upgrade if I lifted my thumb. Ah well at least I'll know for the future upgrade.

Posted by obentou
I am not sure if white papers are supposed to disclose every change in a firmware update, but if those are it, I am dissapointed.

Removing the effects on the music player basically admits SE's mistake on their part by not improving the hardware associated with the phone, and the need to reduce the glimmer to make it run up to speed. My hopes of having improved menu speed similar to the K800i are going down the tubes.

One other thing I found, let me know if R1DA038 fixes this:

Go to camera mode with the rocker switch to the "play" sign, where you view photos. Zoom into any picture, and let the phone run into sleep mode. Try waking up the phone. Can't right? You have to press the "call end" button to wake it up, which quits the whole damn application. So when I'm looking at a map while driving, this is a BIG hassle. Hope this is fixed.

You don't need to hold the C Button all the way. Just as it says release the c button

@obentou mines also 038 and works fine

Posted by obentou
Thanks a lot guys. Good to hear that it is fixed!

Edit: So you can press any button and it wakes up right? If you press the volume buttons, does it show the standby clock?

Actually, I just tried waking up the phone by pressing any button, but it woke up after literally like 10 seconds.. but then again it looks like a programming error... the phone just does the fade effect right away and goes back to sleep.

Mine wakes by pressing any key but instantly goes to a dialing screen if I use anything other than the D pad
grey clock screen starts up no problem from the vol button, both wake and clock are instant , no lag.

I really hope that this is just not true. I have a hard time thinking that they take away megabass and the other stuff that is directly related to the sound capabilities itself. Because if they do, the drasticly change the specs of a big part of the phone. And then you have the right to claim that this product is not like the product you wanted and bought from the beginning! So if they do this i will return the phone and demand my money back!! But i don't think that they will do any changes soundwise. Maybe they meant some visual effects. That's what i think. But i even doubt that they will take those away.

I dont think its the mega bass or that type of things they have removed, its possible the flashing lights etc, which the k850i never had

SE Music Player and Effects:
This has been removed completely from R3A Listing, Possible a error in printing?

Today is 20... When will that much awaited performance firmware will be released?
I am from india unbranded 037
Currently i cant update to 038 ..update says i have the latest.
My bugs so far..
Battery shows 99or 98% even after one full night charge..mostly it should be a firmware problem..
Typing so many words for say in this reply box makes the phone restart...
Megabass and bass dont sound different..
Eq is not remembered..
Multitasking fails sometimes and makes phone restart..

Please help .. When will this firmware be released?
And What is this all about removing megabass ? Where di you guys get the info..
If its true i will return it back

And also why does it take so long to delete a file in media manager?
And games are slow sometimes..
But overall the phone performance is reduced when media manager is running..ie music player..

I Hope Sony-Ericsson is working right through the night to get the firmware released on the 20th. They dont deserve sleep until they fix this buggy monstrosity!

Posted by naveensiva
Have to agree with dupet...

And somebody tell me how to make that media manager indexing not to search for album art...coz it shows soo many albumart... And then only comes my pictures..kinda irritating..
And also there should some option like to prevent certain folders or hidden foldsp not to be indexed. .. So that we can hide personal photos..
