As I have thanks God a bug free K850 I wanted to know if the BIG FW that's coming those few days will boost the video recording quality?
It's weird to have such difference between 320*240 and the n95's 640*480 when both are in 30fps,will SE boost the video bitrate(at least 3x)?

Hello!
My k850i is also kinda slow (FW 37) but I have another problem as well. If I enable the Mega Bass, the sound quality becomes very poor :/
Will this be fixed in the big update?
When updating the firmware, why does the battery have to be completely full?

Just becouse of the risk you run out of battery during the update and mess you phone..... if you have at least 90% is aceptable...

Last time I updated via seus is bricked my phone, was able to save the phone via davinciteam. I am very wary of using it again after that. I have updated to the 038 version of the firmware and it seems ok, no real big speed improvements as far as operating the phone, maybe another version of the firmware may prove better. Mine is an unbranded k850i blue.

>500: My phone's origin is lost to me since I bought it from ebay from a user who had it for 1-2 weeks before selling. There is no branding whatsoever on the phone itself nor on startup/shoutdown. I need to compare the imei on the phone to what's on the box (should be one of the barcodes on the side right?). The box has TIM on the side and a couple of booklets that mention TIM on them as well. At any rate - no update for me as of Saturday night
Posted by >500
yeah the imei will be on the side of the box, and on the phone, type in *#06# and compare them!
your phone sounds unbranded though!

I hope that's all the info to tell branding - let me know if I missed anything and thanks!
Sorry for the delay,
I know this sounds strange, your phone came in a TIM box which is Telecom Italia. Does the IMEI number match the box you got it in.
The phone is Generic from what i understand.
APAC-ANZ is Asia, Pacific, Australia
Tim has its own branding (TIM ITALY/ BLUE TIM-ITALY)
Hope this helps

Maybe is on purpose to difer the Cybershot series to the Walkman series as they do to the sound... Hope really son we can use the W890i or W910i sound drivers in ours K850i ... As I Had done with my K800i using the W880i drivers..

That's what I was saying from the very beginning.
Anyways, back on the K850i bandwagon, got a cheap one, but its a 07W40. Again it has the standby clock LED unevenness. May probably get rid of it when the price drops for a newer build.

It seems lot of people don't care about it but what about video recording quality? It's not acceptable to have such low video bitrate even at 320*240,it's very pixelised! nokio phones at 320*240 30fps are far better and it's only a matter of FW calibration so don't you hope that SE repair this too in the upcoming big FW?

people do care, but theyre far more worried about the camera's still picture quality. specially when using the flash. the camera is the reason most people buy this phone, and it dosent work properly. so hopefully its what they fix first. id really like to be able to take pictures of faces without getting flashburn.

I don't hink my K850i have bad video quality, K800i was a lot worse... Isn't fair compare to Nokias becouse they have a worse still camera and no flash at all...
I use the R1CA037 firmware but yes i think SE may improve the video quality by a new firmware lets wait until january 20 an see what happens..

Is it a bit uneven in the bottom of the screen, aligned with the touch buttons? If this is not normal I have it too. 07W45.

The large clock is still there. It is on mine anyway (O2) so don't see why it wouldn't be available on yours......

I doubt they will improve it and yes, it is quite fair to compare Nokias and SE. Don't want to mention feature differences, but small difference in camera qualities cannot justify BIG difference in video recording and playback. I didn't had problems converting videos for N95. I used same settings for K850i and of no use. Varying speed and offset voice playback... even after quality decrease...
Nokia with no flash? Could be true if you have said it 1 month ago.. Don't get me wrong but having K850i doesn't mean being blind.
It is slow, needs improvements and needs them quickly..

Try to master reset the phone. For the clock, you can find the setting in the settings>display> clock size
Posted by ANDYBRAD
master reset and nothing there. just reflashing it. Lets see.
Also gett he message. not enough memory to index files and it asks me to delete my files on the phone.
Posted by kenoby
Did you try to take out the battery for a few mins? I cannot remember anything else. Few people here had same problem.. Looks like phone doesn't clean after himself
Posted by ANDYBRAD
right battery out master reset twice. m2 card out
reflashed twice
still no large clock. the option just isnt there.
still memeory error. not enough memory to index files. please delete some!!
Anyone else on orange and flashed it?
Posted by ANDYBRAD
hmmm carnt get the orange homescreen working either. says it uses too much memory. Any ideas?
Posted by kenoby
Bad luck. Sorry, can't help you on this one.. It really looks like installation does not clean after itself. Might be incomplete. Does SEUS offer downgrade to 37?
If no, get it to SESC for a reflash or wait for a day. They might refresh the server...

Ok You are talking about the N82... really a good phone. I was comparing with the N95 such an expensive phone with nice video quality but really poor led flash... Really uneceptable... And no i'm not blind... K850i have it issues... for me the most anoying is the speed issue..
What I really don't like about Nokia is its style, the materials that Nokia uses look a little cheap... and cracky, chunky... And the OS Sybian dosen't moves me at all... I think the K850i is slow in media center but the N95 8GB or others Nokias with this Symbian OS 9.2 Series 60 is really all slow...in simple day a day activities..(even the UIQ of the new W960i i dont like) But no further more conversations about that becouse Taste is a matter os personal choice... let's not start a fight of Greeks and Troians alright??

R38 initial look on orange uk
On the plus side.
The camera is faster.
The media player is faster.
Games are a little quicker to load.
There’s a transition effect in the camera album so that when you switch between pictures it zooms out then zooms back in. Looks nice.
There is not a date and time the photo was taken at the top of the photos.
The touch sensitive button text doesn’t disappear as randomly as in R37
On the negative side.
The orange home screen no longer works (memory error)
It took a while to recognise my media for some reason
The large clock (that was really nice I thought) is gone and there’s just the time and date in the bottom corner now in small font.
Is anyone else on orange and has the same issues?
Posted by kenoby
@ vbajma, as I said, do not get me wrong. Maybe it was a bad choice of words. Written word is different than said. No intention to start "post war" either. I admit, both first and N95 8Gb have a bad LED flash. And color balance in auto I do not like. Thou N95 8Gb has a better build quality. One of the things that annoyed me with the first N95 is chassis squeaking.
I'm just getting nervous waiting for the freaking FW update. And from the feedback here also the new one isn't promising.
Posted by vegetaleb
38 is not the big update we were waiting for,it's only a FW SE made after the many requests from orange and other network provider, the 20th Jan is the day the interesting FW will come out!
I don't have any bug right now but I hope picture and video quality recording will get a great step forward

well i am impressed with the speed improvement of 38 over 37. seems strange that theyve disabled some features though
Posted by kenoby
^^ You do not have problems with the memory full anymore?
Posted by ANDYBRAD
WELL...
it all appears to be well and good but if i flash it and dont reboot then it appears to have an issue. once thats done its fine. There is a significant improvement in the mediaplayer speed which is nice. Basically the bit where it shows names etc. the only problems are it will not show the orange home screen (i never used it but its a bit worrying as it gives the error "the application uses too much memory") and the fact that the large clocks gone.
I woud reccomend it however as the improvements far outweigh the downsides
