You can't seriously believe what you just said can you? it's OK to release a flagship devcie with loads of faults and expect your users to pay a premium price and then wait 4 months odd while you get round to fixing it after there complaints tell you what needs fixing. Has the the concept of Beta Testing prior to release suddenly no longer become necessary? SE should hide in shame and embarrassment at how they realeased this devcie and treated there users for the last 4 months and even still now. If this is how they continue to release devcies and then treat their users they really are going down fast and hard.

Nope i don't think so. i listen to brand new disco songs with lots of loudness and bass and have no problem. Maybe you thought i only listened to recording from the late 40:s with Frank Sinatra?

When will the update "R1DA038" available on SEUS in Pakistan?
I've R1CA037 and when i try to search for software update it tells me that phone has already the latest software.

Hello,

Posted by darrengf
It is classed as a major released, however im not sure if this is main release for Jan.
This release was done in late Decemeber, so there may be another one still to come.

I know that you already have R1DA038 on your K850i. Please tell me about the battery. The firmware update did affect the standby time or not? My K850i with R1CA037 lasts 2 days when I am on the 3G+ network and in this 2 days I used it for 3 hours and 30 minutes surfing on wap and playing with it. It is very good for my standards. It is better than my K800i. Do you think the firmware update has affect the energy cobsumtion on your handset?
Thank you!

@vbayma. Something i found.
Generaly though all SE firmwares take aprrox 4 weeks from start to finish to be placed onto the SEUS server. However some times they can take longer.
@negrescumari
I have noticed about a 2-3 hour drop probally in usage. I dont get a 3g network where i live so i have to make do with Edge or GPRS, However i leave 3g network function on if so to find it if im out and about.
However I do on average send 50-100 sms aday, a couple of mms, about 1 hour of wap and game usage, 1-2 emails and Web feeds about 4 times aday.
My phone was charged to 100% last night and my current battery usage after today is 68% which i did make a 15 min call as well as the other stuff above this morning.
Oh and i have took 2 pics with flash and a 20 second video too.
Yesterday before i charged the phone, I had sent 162 sms, but no phone calls or emails. did use wap for about a hour and played crazy golf for 20 mins. Used web feeds again 4 times during the day. Phone was at 44% and when i went to charge it it was at 14%.
Hope the above helps

@Dogmann ... I'm not sure I'd say it's OK to do it or not, but I think that's what they've done - I think it was the same when I got my w800i
The process is probably quicker than beta testing - and yeah, I'd still pay a premium for it to get it sooner, knowing it has software probs that can be fixed - If it had hardware probs (which some people have had) then that's wrong... and yeah they should have been a bit more transparent and told people that the software might not be top notch yet and let people decide - but then microsoft et al don't!

i guys i have bought my k850i last sunday. and i have a question regarding the contact. i have set my contact to sort using "last name" so If i have a contact name "John Doe" and "John Mark Doe" it would display in the contacts as follows:
Doe, John
Doe, John Mark
my problem is when i try to call "Doe, John Mark". It will show that i am trying to call "Mark Doe, John"
my phone fw is R1CA037 unbranded.

Guys, from what you are saying, seems that they have overclocked a bit or left more processes in the ram. That could explain faster draining of the batt?
@darrengf, have you tried to benchmark it with the new fw?
Posted by kotsianis7
Maybe they overclocked some processes....But i suspect that this is a mistake...The same had appeared in some firmware versions of other models:e.g. K700i and they correct it.
Guys,i have a question:how can they make faster the phone?Do they write the statements in the code of its operating system a bit different so they can be executed more efficiently?Or do they overclock the processor? And if they overclock the processor how can the phone consumes less power?(not exactly this phone, but in general-as we saw the battery life of K700,K750 and K800 has increased with the software updates whereas the phones performed a lot faster)

I would guess speed is reached in time by cleaning up of the os coding. Just a guess..
But now few are saying the battery is draining up quicker than before so my guess is that they either increased the proc. clock or , most likely, they filled the ram more. Some of the people are complaining about "not enough memory" message. But, again, it is just my guess...

Just another update on the battery life.
I charged my phone overnight on Monday. Took it off at 7am Tuesday, I've sent and received a total of about 75 messages and done absolutely nothing else with the phone at all. The battery is now at 14%.
It wasn't very good on 037 but on 038 it is absolutely shocking.
EDIT @ 16:48 - Down to 12% now after 3 more texts. Unbelievable.

I have a Very big problem with my phone, Got a VF with the 38 FW but the media player is all messed up (the media player text is duplicated where the other copy of the text is slightly offset)
You can see for yourself (sorry for the poor pic but you can see that the photo is not blurry)
I have tried master reset but it doesn't fix the problem
Updating the phone via SEUS fixes the problem but it gets all blurry after you open the media player a couple of times
Anyone got the same problem or managed to fix it?

Battery now down to 3%.
Thats 37 hours from an overnight charge. Absolutely pathetic and completely unacceptable. If this isn't fixed with the next software then I shall seriously consider getting rid of this phone.

1889, try change your theme and see if it helps improve your battery life. I had good battery life before I upgraded to R1DA038. After the upgrade it really felt like something happen and the battery got drained a lot faster. However then I changed the theme and now my battery life is good again! Strange...

Maybe because you messed up your battery with your run-downs
Glad I got rid of this phone for the time being... going to wait till it drops in price to grab it again... and by that time, it'll be Feb, and the phone should be ripe to pick. Using the N95 8GB for now.

Doubt it. I've only let it completely die once anyway. Normally I just let it get really low, like 12% or less. It didn't die yesterday, it got to 3% and then I charged it for a few hours.

Battery Issue:
I have the same theme and my usage has been consistent between the upgrade from firmware version 37 to 38, yet the battery life has substantially gone down!
Its really bad, ive resorted to taking my charger to work now as it dies too quickly.
I want to go back to the old firmware in order to get a decent amount of battery life for my phone, but only way to do that is to pay the davinci team 10euros.
I dont think its fair to have to pay to downgrade firmware because SEUS have messed up!
Have been a hardcore SE fan for a good few years, and its hurting to have to say im getting fed up of this phone!

At least I'm not the only one with major battery problems.
I'm stuck with my phone now aswell. I'm a couple of months into an 18 month contract so its too late to send the phone back or anything, I'll just have to stick it out and hope the next software upgrade fixes it.

Do those with battery probs leave bluetooth on?
I turned it off just before i went away last week ... on 038 -Between the morning of 31st till 7th I only charged it up once while away, and then wasn't a long charge.
That said, I didn't make that many calls as I was abroad, but did use the cam/mp3 a lot.
just tried benchmarking but when I try to upload it barfs and gives me the html code of a vodafone page saying 'access denied'! - or in the net one it has the code for a page that says "Please exit and restart the application for an accurate measurement"

I never leave bluetooth on, only thing that maybe seem like it would use some battery is the HSDPA signal, but i had that with v37 as well.
Does anyone know a way to get the version 37 back without having to pay?
Does SE even know about this issue?

the best way to downgrade (or uppdate) your firmware from 038 to 037 is to DPY flash it (using EMMA server)...can only be done by your local
work shop...(think also its the only way).
i allways uppdate my firmwares that way...MUCH better
so yes it possible
ps..its of course free to uppdate your fimrware with DPY flashning...but now you want to downgrade..ask nice and it should be ok
pss...tomorow i going to downgrade my own k850 to 029, (liked 029 better.....much (normaly) better battery life....we have a
work shop just some meters from their i live [ This Message was edited by: plankgatan on 2008-01-10 18:01 ]

I'm on version 037, and for every 24hrs, my battery drops 25 % from full charge ie 98%, and the last 50% drops faster and is completely depleted in 30 hrs.
My average routine is:
1. 3G on always, sometimes phone switches to EDGE or 2G
2. Total talk time in 24 hrs ~45min
3. bluetooth only on when actually sending/receiving stuff
4. 10-15 sms/mms in 24hrs
5. 2-3 photos with flash
With 3G off, battery can last up to double the time.
I shudder to think that ver 038 gives worse battery lifespan
Posted by n4d3r
wow i dont know why some of you have battery problems with your k850's. im on 037 and my battery lasts a very long time. I fully drained and charged (8 hour charge) my battery 2 days ago and after 50 hour something my battery is at 46%.
edit** im on 3g network 90% of the times and make a couple of video calls a day.
I use bluetooth for about an hour a day while driving.
take around 10 shots a day with/without flash
send 10 sms messeges a day, averaging 80 minutes a day talk time

the battery on my k850i 037 is great to it lasts about 4-5 days with atleast a hour or two of music every night

I turned Bluetooth and Push email off and that helped.

I've now turned off almost everything and removed an animated screensaver.
Last night I charged up the phone to full, havent used it today for anything other than a dozen texts and right now the meter bar is showing as almost full maybe 85% but the settings in profile are showing as only 63 %

i realy dont think that 037 have good battery life...thinks its sucks like 038
i had 029 for several months...no problem with UI or some other things..(of course the mediaplayer is little slow when i listen to music)...BUT I HAD AWESOME BATTERY LIFE...i realy believe that 029 is the only firmware with good battery......037 & 038 have the same worse battery.
im going back to 029, and wait to spring/summer when a real firmware comes....easily

I agree, battery on my k850i on the original firmware was very very good but has been drasticaly reduced after I did the 2 updates, cant seem to win, media is faster now and camera improved but have now got a poor battery and memory bug.
Posted by plankgatan
you right and wrong
with 037 & 038 the mediaplayer became faster BUT THE CAMERA QUALITY wasnt improved...i get same quality on my pictures with 029 like 038..(im actaully satisfield with the camera...except for some outdoor pics)
so i rather have 4 days awesome battery life and little slower mediaplayer,
then 1-2 days battery life and little faster mediaplayer

battery life has probabaly suffered becasue they've cranked up the "overclocked" processor to have it perform faster...

does someone actaully know if
overclocked the CPU ??????????
can you see it in some Benchmark or ????????....sounds strange to OC a cell phone CPU...he he...(of course the battery life drain faster if thats true)
maybe its a bug on the battery-icon ???

I think the battery icon is ok, currently my icon is still green but its near half way and the status says 40%.
So the icon seems ok to resemble the 40%.
I was also thinkin to switch to v29 for battery reasons, but the flash being out of sync was really annoying for night time photos.
So downgrading to v37 might be an in between solution.
And about finding a local SE work shop, i used to know one near me called Intec Cellular Services in Barnet,uk, but none of their phone numbers work any more, wondering if they are closed.
Posted by spanner5351
The only thing i can think of that drains my battery is that fact that i travel on the underground everyday to and from work, so whilst underground the phone constantly tried to pick up signal.
HOWEVER: i was travelling the same journey even when i had v29. So like i was saying earlier, my usage has been constant through the upgrade from v29 to v38.
Therefore the issue still stands that the battery life has deteriorated over the upgrade
Posted by 1889
Its got to be something to do with the software that is draining the battery. Its nothing to do with usage, 3G, Bluetooth, searching for a signal or anything.
When I had 037 I could easily get 5 days out of it, which isn't too bad. I haven't used my phone since my last charge on Wednesday night, I didn't let it charge fully so I don't think it got to 100% cause when I checked it the following morning it was at 75%, it is now at 61%. That'd be pretty reasonable if that was the consumption when I was using it.

I have a firmware issue... surprise surprise..
I have been on the generic R1CA037 for a while and it was ok, no major issues, just the speed thing. But I heard the R1DA was kicking rear end for speed so I used DaVinci to update to the Voda version (the phone was originally voda branded anyway). After unplugging from DaVinci and turning my phone lights up then lights down then nothing. It doesn't boot up at all. I plugged it into SEUS to try a forced reflash, but after going through all the motions the phone still doesn't turn on. I tried going back into DaVinci but it throws up a 'no script' error in the log and disconnects saying it's done. Before it does that though it recognises the phone and it's firmware as R1CA037 despite being flashed as R1DA038-voda. This is most frustrating that I can't reflash it at all. Any help will be great.
Posted by spanner5351
@Ricky D
After reading this thread you still wanted to go to v38?? :s
Maybe you should have used Davinci to get onto v37 VODA then used SEUS to update the voda 37 to 38.
Only thing i can think to fix the problem is to get the phone to a SE centre and get it flashed by them.
Is it the davinci update program that throws the script error?
Posted by Ricky D
Yeah DaVinci gives me...
Identification Time - 00:00:10
Done!
Service Selection Started...
Error! Error loading MIDAS.DLL
No Scripts Avaiable For Your Device K850i
Script Execution Started...
Execution Time - 00:00:00
Done!
Then kicks me out. I found the source of the error, It's a windows update which changes the registry location for midas.dll and it needs to be re-registered. I'm reflashing with DaVinci again now (for another €10!). Hopefully it'll work else I'm sending it to be repaired.
