Aware could you tell me where did you check it ?
Posted by aremaboy
Did SEUS say 'update not available' or 'update is not needed'?
Posted by Krzysiecw
not avaliable
Posted by aremaboy
If it says 'update not available' it means a new firmware is about to come. The same thing happened on my old K810i. It said so and the next day, SEUS got newer f/w for it. Just cross our finger then..
Check later and hope the new firmware will be there...

It's a major release with focus on better camera performance!

Help! I'm not sure if this is a firmware problem but... my videos are out of sync with the sounds. I have the most recent firmware though (R1DA038), and it's Hong Kong version. Does this mean I have to wait until they fix it? Or do I really have to return my phone?

@chai
lower the bitrate of the video and the audio.,
320kbps for video
80kbps for audio

Hmm, no update on APAC as of Dec 25 2:27PM EST

Hi Everyone...
Yesterday i had an Xmas Party at my house, and how i sad before this flash issue is a really anoyng problem, It flashes sometimes but it seem not in the right moment or the bad software don't deal the right way with the picture....
Look these photos some were taken with the night portrait other in all automatic mode...

i think the rule here is never use auto settings. Always zoom in on your pic youve just taken to check for sharpness, if unsharp, take another pic. Sometimes it will focus and give you the green frame, but it is not quite focused properly. As frustrating as the flash can be, use it with ISO 100, it brings out the best colours and sharpness.
New firmware is on its way if it isnt already, so try updating your K850 and see if that fixes it?

btw, i just checked the big list again and noticed the bug about the "@" not showing when adding a gmail client, but it does..it's just that you need to press the 1 button instead of going to symbols.
Maybe it was fixed on 037

Doesn't matter how low I go with the bitrate. When I fast forward a video, audio and video always lose sync.

@PACO Its something that SE are poor at. Videos. I dont know why but SE K850 is shocking for the video on the phone.
I have the same problem as you know matter what you do. When you fast forware or rewind it becomes out of sync. To be honest Ive given up on the Video function and am starting to loose faith in the phone now as well.
This is my 5th phone and its 100% better than all the other, I dont hold out much faith in it. I also dont give up much hope for SE any more either. They have lost the plot and got this flagship phone very wrong at the min.
Posted by obentou
Yep. I think this firmware update in January better be the biggest update in SE K series history, because they seriously flopped on this one... these bugs are just stupid and irritating.
I may consider the N95 8GB if the update fails to meet consumer standards, or the N82, since that phone is also coming down in price. Or heck, even go back to a K790a.
Posted by darrengf
I wouldnt hold out on the firmware being gr8
The bugs that are in the phone should have never been there in the first place. What the hell is wrong with SE. Poor phone, Poor Build quality, Poor Camera and Poor software.
I can take grat shots with the phone, but i can also get the phone to take crap shots as well.
Time for people to go at the top at SE.
R1DA038 is what we beleive is coming out which is a camera drvier update fix. However from what ive heard this firmware is poor. Lots of people on the internet are now complaining of memory issues with the phone. Video function still isnt fixed and out of sync as well.
N82 is looking better by the day

The T650 (or indeed other older platform models) copes very well with video at higher bitrates. Indeed, the video that is out of sync by 2-3 seconds at the start and nearly 1 or 2 minutes by the end of a 30 minute video on my K850i works fine on the T650 (aka K770).
My W960i also plays video just fine. In other words, it's only the K850 and W910 that mess up!
This MUST be fixable on the next firmware revision. It's simply shocking that it happened in the first place!
Posted by obentou
Well, I guess you do have to give them some time to get the fixes out, considering it's a new platform that the K850i/W910i run on.
I wouldn't mind waiting since I just try to use the phone as little as I can so I don't get pissed off from the quirks.

Sorry people, this is what Chai wrote the other day after updating to the new firmware that has just been released to some networks and countries.
So from this i think we are in for a long wait.
I have wrote a email to SE about the phone and the problems, but you only ever get a standard response and nothing seems to be getting done about it. They are just not listening to there customers any more.
I feel like i have been robbed of my money for something that isnt worth anything.

I think R1DA038 is only update for poepole who can`t carry anymore problem with camera and thay don`t want to listetning that they have to wait until January ... a hope the camdriver is taken from the general release which will come in January ... It`s just a part of the new big firmware lets call it "January firmware"

Well from reading the internet and other forums.
R1AD038 is still problamatic when taking photos.
Alot of people are staill saying that even with the new firmware the phone can and does take dark shots even with the flash.
So from this it looks like SE isnt listening or even fixing the phone.
I think now that the K850 may have a major flaw and its possible that the processor in the phone can not handle the new a200 platform. Which leads me to beleive that no matter what SE does to the firmware, it will never be right.
The processor in the K850 is no different to the K850, however the K800 processor has less to do in the A100 platform so resulting in a much smoother and better performance phone.
However when you put a old processor with New software then alot of the times the processor cant cope with the demand.
Any one elses views on this?

I don't trust anyone on the net that has faulty photos because they probably are just holding the phone in a way that obstructs the flash.
Seriously, everyone I know who has a K850i has no problems with the camera. You have to give the flash a lot of clearance in order for the phone to produce good photos. The flash is located differently than on the K800 so you have to hold it as instructed in the user manual.
I won't believe anyone unless they provide video proof of the phone being faulty. Perhaps there may be one or two cases, but then again just get the phone replaced.
I don't think R1DA038 is the big update, I'm sure there will be more to come, this was the case for the K800 - some fixes led to new bugs, but it took them a while to get it straightened out. Unfortunately I really hate the lagginess of the UI (perhaps it's the processor on the new A2 platform?) and I believed that it could be fixed with firmware updates, but I am convinced otherwise right now...
All I can hope is for this phone to be in top shape by February 1. If not, then I will kiss this phone goodbye. Although I do have to admit, I am quite attracted to the design of the K850i... it will be hard to let it go. At least the Nokia N95 8GB will look quite tempting by then...

What can you say? It's a phone with so much potential that simply fails to deliver. I don't doubt that SE will sort the software issues, but unless it's just proving extremely difficult for them, they don't seem to be in a rush to restore our lost confidence.
Posted by obentou
I am unsure if it's company arrogance or whatever, but all they have to do is simply give us feedback, whether or not it is on forums or on their own website.
We all know that communication is vital in establishing a relationship with customer and a company... although I have heard stories that SE reads what we post at Esato, unless we are given credible feedback this rumour is just false hope.
Never in my life have I experienced a phone with this many bugs... the K800 was bad back then, but man, it just gets worse.

I can get the phone to produce some dark pics very easy.
Just turn the phone arround and take a shot of yourself at arms length.
The pics can be good, dark or black.
Turn the flash of and the pics are bright and general fine.
I took a photo of my friends in a resteraunt sat over the table which is about 1 meter appart and they all came out black, i changed a few settings and in the end switched the flash of and they then came out natural and fine.
It all seems to do with whats behind you, the colour and brightness.
If you are out side i cant fault the pics.
To be honest i have just come back from Vegas and took both my phone and digital camera.
I have taken the same shots with both.
My honest conclusion, the phone took slightly more natural shots than the camera (Better colour) clarity and sharpness were the same.
Indoors and the phone fell on its head, shocking, bluriness, dark and colours either too high in colour or not enough.
Camera didnt have any problems at all.
The camera is a Sony W5 (5mb) with no change in settings.
I am a point and click person. Ok not ideal in every sittuation, but ideal in most indoor and outdoor shots
However the video i took with the phone inside the same hotels are very good on the phone and playback on the comp, Colour, contrast very correct. So it seems to be when taking the pics.

mine takes lots of hit and miss pics and i hold it exactly as suggested in the manual.
1st SE phone for me and last if they dont fix the firmware, just a shame im tied in now for 2 yrs,
this threads starting to depress me now !
Posted by darrengf
Dont get depressed.
Theres always light at the end of a tunnel
currenlty its a candle in the K850i, but i know, hope and pray that SE fixes the issue.
If not then consumer power will do the rest.

Really.
I can't get it to take any dark pictures, out of 2 K850i's I've been through. Unless I purposely obstruct the flash in some way.
I see why you may be getting dark/black pictures now. If your middle finger's knuckle is in ANY close proximity to the flash, the pictures will turn out that way. Moving the knuckle 1-2cm away from the flash, and the pictures turn out good as usual.

Done that and i get slightly better pics, but i can still get them to be dark.
I even use the self timer (so no hands hldint the phone)
I dont think its the phone or camera it self but the use of a white auto focus.
The white auto focus lamp puts extra light on the close subject, so the camera thinks its quiet bright, this cause then the pic to be dark.
The red auto focus lamp on a camera doesnt cause this as Red doesnt show up as bright on a subject. So this may be the series design flaw in the phone.
So the fault may lie with the auto focus lamp it self. What do you think

I'd say darrengf's Vegas experience of the phone pics is spot on, soooooo similar to the probs I have, admittedly I'm not a great photographer but the pics I took indoors last week of my niece on her 1st birthday where awful, just 1 good shot out of a dozen and many blurry yet I held it as still as humanly possible
I have a 3.2 meg digi cam and never take blurry pics.
I'm pleased for anyone who has no camera probs but I can assure you I hold the phone on the silver edge and fingers are nowhere near the back.
Incidently my sister also took pics with her K800 and hers where fine without fiddling with any settings, ah well.
Posted by darrengf
And just to prove my theroy.
1st photo was taken with the phone inside the Venitien in Las Vegas
The 2nd one with the digital camera.
Both on auto, nothing changed or altered.
You can see the difference your self. The phone is blury and colours are wishy washy.
The camera one wasnt.
** Look at the top of the photo, on the camera you can see blue sky, look at the phone one, its more white **

Now pics of when I was out side, The phone Behaves very differently.
These pics are taken at Busch Gardens in Tampa FL, 2 weeks ago.
1st one was the K850i and the 2nd one the Sony Camera.
The pic from both are fantastic, but for me the phone took a much clearer pic even thought the light was slightly different.

So the moral of the story is so far.
Out doors the phone is fine.
Inside its hit and miss.
Now i know that the new firmware should be out for most phones shortly.
Vodfaone, Tim and some Generic customers can update now and the camera version should also have been updated with VF update, so if any one can take pics with the new version of cameras firmware to see if it improves?
I know that new phones shipped from T-mobile uk are also coming with R1AD038 now as well (Info from another forum)

Well, decent pictures here and there, and like you said, hit and miss which I agree from your results.
In my opinion, I never expect a cameraphone to rival the optics and sensory mechanisms of actual digital cameras. A phone is a phone, and a camera is simply an asset of the device. Although companies like Nokia, SE, Samsung, LG, etc. are trying to overcome this, I cannot see anytime soon a cameraphone that can rival a digital camera in terms of picture quality and reproduction taken everywhere. Perhaps it can in the outdoors when lighting isn't a problem, but I am already quite impressed by the K850i's performance indoors.
My standards may be too low, but what the heck, it's a good thing I guess. I've got no complaints about it - only thing I want is the UI to be sped up until all animations are smooth. They did this with the P1i, where the transitions were made so much faster that it was actually usable - there is no reason the K850i can't improve in terms of UI speed. I'd also like for most of the bugs to be fixed, which will be a definite bonus, if not a necessity for most of us here.
Hope to hear some good news from Sony Ericsson the next month.

Just upgraded my VF branded K850i to R1AD038 va the update service.
Everything seems to be ok so far with one exception, it now seems to be ignoring the "default contacts" option. This is currently set to "Phone contacts" but if the sender is in the contacts on my SIM then those details are displayed for incoming calls etc. This was not the same with the previous R1CA029 version i had installed.
I tried a master settings reset but no difference! Anyone else seen this issue?
