I think have a bad memory stick or problem with mem stick reader on phone. using a 1 gig ms duo pro in phone and phone freezes up when mem stick is inserted. is it a bad mem stick or phone problem ?

Part of me wants to suspect or believe that your mem stick has a virus. The only problem I got was with a 2gb mem stick. It couldnt work in my v360. I dont know if the stick was too big for my phone.

using it in my backup phone a k750i supposed to support up to 4 gig ? ahh would that also erase data ? lost a bunch of themes and games from it as well.. any way to fix it ? or just buy new mem stick ? just odd my 1 gig one in w880i is fine as it has the same files stored on it.

Do you have antivus in your devise? Because If you do, it must detect if its heing attacked by one or not. One other thing could be inserting it in a memory card reader and flash it. However you need to back up the data that is still available because you will loose everything saved in it. That might be you last resort before buying a new one.

as far as I know theres no antivirus app on my k750 .. didnt know that they made one for mobile tbh.. Ive got copies of everything just an annoyance having to reload it all and having the phone freeze up. where can I find an antivirus program for my mobiles-k750i and w880i ?

I dont know for the sonny. I have seen one for nokiaj in the net. My friend downloaded it and it is working great. With mz v360 I couldnt find it online, but this what I do. I plug the phone in a pc with an antivirus using the data cable and scan from there. Keep searching mate and good luck.

maybe its a faulty one then, by chance, u shpuld bring or send it back and ask for a replacement. according the virus, there isnt any for nokia, neither se. there are just faulty apps, what can make the fone crazy, but a simple master reset solves the problem, if it is.

You are quite correct that the memory card problem above is not a virus issue. There are no s60 viruses that cause problems with memory card access

However there ARE viruses that infect Nokia; the main one is called Cabir and it's in the wild. I've been sent files by cabir infected Nokia's while in public on several occasions. My phone was both K750 and K800, both immune to cabir, so I was safe. I even accepted one out of curiosity and when I scanned it on my pc, my AV detected it as the cabir virus!

If you get sent a file from a Nokia called 40j4no9klh248.sis or similiar (the name changes randomly each time), it is likely to be the cabir virus. You can simply refuse to accept it and you will be safe.

(disclaimer - if you have a s60 phone and accept the cabir virus, it will install and your phone will immediately start scanning for bluetooth devices in range and send itself to any it finds. This will cause your battery to run dead very quickly, and also maybe spread the virus)

@ max good to know se phones immune to virus. I never accept bt files from ppl I dont know. usually hide phone when out saves refusing requests every 5 seconds. seem to get loads of them when have phone visible.

it's possible that UIQ is also susceptible to cabir or other mobile viruses, but I'm not sure it's been actually proven yet. There are far more s60 than uiq devices out there, so the lack of reports of UIQ infections may only come down to their smaller market penetration.

There is also a java virus incidently - it's called redbrowser and will cause you phone to send a stream of text messages to 1707. This will run your battery dead and cost you a packet. To get infected, you must visit a wap website that hosts redbrowser, and then accept the prompt asking if you want to install the app. However redbrowser isn't in the wild anymore - it died out since it has no method of propogation (and therefore technically isn't actually a virus but a trojan).

With any mobile, it's worth being cautious when receiving files you aren't expecting (even from known sources - the known source could also be infected).

Interesting and good to know on the mobile viruses. Thanks Max
