Hi,
As of about a month and a half ago I have been having BIG problems with my mobile phone reception. Nothing has changed - not the phone, not where I live, not my SIM. Suddenly, O2's coverage of my area has gone from ok to poor. I am constantly losing a signal, and more often than not have "SOS Calls Only" displayed on my phone. O2 reckon nothing has changed, but friends phones display the same sypmtoms when they are round at my place.
Has anyone come across this before?
Any advice on what I can do?
O2 seem to not be interested .......

there mite just b a problem wiv the nearest signal post 2 u, ask o2 to check ur postcode

I tried that,they said everything looks ok from their end.
The problem is convincing O2 that there is a problem. I know there is one, I am experiencing it every day. But they insist there isn't!

Do u have a contract?cuz if u do u can stop it cuz u don't have a coverage and they can c by sending the engineers down there hehe but if u make a claim it better b strong argumented(ie-u sure ur friends have the same pr,u tried OTHER phones with ur sim,ur calls drop)!if u have prepaid change provider

Of corse they are`nt interested they are c**ts. people with problems like yours are just a nuesance to them, if your on contract, stop it, give the phone back, go to Orange & ask for that same o2 tarrif, but on the Orange network (orange value promise). You get an itemised bill aswell (o2 don`t do that because you would see where they have "accidently" stolen from you).

Unfortunately, giving the handset back and cancelling the contract is too much hassle for the user I believe. In a perfect world, they would fix the problem, or at least offer some half decent support, with perhaps some nicer people on the end of the line.
From my dealings, it sounds like the staff there are starved, whipped and tortured cause they're so damn miserable !
I WILL get them to look into the problem more and I am NOT cancelling the contract just yet. I mean, this is why we rely on companies like this, because they're supposed to look after customers.....
.... maybe I'm being too hopeful. I now await the Manager of the Network services to call me. This is my second request that he call me.... shame, I wouldn't want to ruin his day.....

As i pointed out you are wasting your time, they won`t call you on a signal issue my friend, it ain`t going to happen, go to another network or carry on waiting/get more angry/lose faith in 02/do without your right to a decent service etc etc, oh & voda are even worse if you have a signal problem, also the longer you leave it the more they will think your making it up to get released from the contract, to sort a local signal the network has to see a large gain not just one extra satisfied customer, good luck with your prblem

I bet if the directors phone had problems, they'd jump right to it. It just p1sses me off that people are lazy, non-helpful (apart from you lot offcourse
Anyhow, should I get any joy out of O2, I will post my experience starting from scratch, so that any future O2'ers (may god have mercy on your souls) can perhaps follow in my footsteps.

I had EXACTLY the same problem!
For about 2 weeks, me, 2 family members, and my girlfriend (All from East Glasgow, Scotland), had the same problem!
My t68i was constantly saying No Acess and SOS Calls Only!
Now a new mobile base station has been setup about 500m up the road from me (assebled from a white, unmarked van, which I assume is o2's!)
The problem has seemed to rapidly subside!
But...
I still get the same problem in other parts of Glasgow!
My guess is some sort of base station equipment failure affecting many nodes.. Either that or a very coincidental increase in network traffic!

@davieb you may have hit the nail on the head, no network can cope very quickly with sudden increases in demand in a particular area, but voda & 02 are responcible for upkeeping your signal once you`ve tried a phone at home & decided your happy, i don`t complain when i go to the highlands from down here in the south and loose my Orange signal because overall coverage is near impossible for any network, but to have it & loose it is a real downer & 02 & voda are really taking the piss if they are still taking your contract payments. i`ve had 02 contracts & the customer service is non existant compaired to Orange who are there for you free 24hrs a day. + if they loose a call because of network coverage problems you get an automatic credit on your bill. you even have to pay for the call when you ring to complain with 02, and they CHARGE to ring a FREEPHONE number, Orange contracts don`t charge for 0800/0500. Sorry to go on but why do people put up with it ??????

i persinally put up with it as my phone bills have been halved!
i send on avergage 700sms a month, use WAP for hours....and my bill is never any more than £45.
on the VERY occasianal time i need help its a pain in the ass....but overall, it saves me ££

So...let me get this straight. The problems the guy is having with coverage aside, you're saying that if a customer calls in and says they are having network problems, we should stop contract payments?
Whats life like on your planet? o2 is not a charity.
Regarding the original problem - I cannot vouch for contract customer care but I can assure you the problem would be dealt with at Prepay customer care.
We have procedures for bad coverage in a good signal area and can get the engineers on it.
I love all the o2 haters too. A case in point about calling customer care.
At first, customer care was free. We got a lot of crank callers (one classic case of someone being asked to be put on hold because he liked the music) so we made the call chargable.
People complained because o2 took too long to answer the phone and it was charging them.
o2 made the call to customer care free. People complain because they have to wait long because we ge crank calls.
Bearing in mind o2 is recruiting all the time now and we are getting more and more people, I ask you how can we win?
But I guess haters never see that, they never see that the people are trying to help. They can't see past the end of their own noses.

I have no problems with o2, it is the only network that I get useable signal at home, call centres are helpfull.

@jalu, Well there`s your difference, o2 call them "haters" whereas Orange refer to callers with a problem as VALUED CUSTOMER.

I've been an o2 (previously BTCellnet/Genie) prepay customer for over a year now and find the customer service disgraceful!
I find i'm sitting on the phone for up to an hour or two with no answer. Then, when emailling for support (which would be my only recourse if my call isn't answered) I have to wait for (on average) 4 days to recieve a reply. And even then it usually doesn't solve my problem.
The only place I have seen worse customer care is NTL!
As for the non-payment of bills - In my opinion you should only pay for the services you recieve. If network coverage/signal is so bad you cannot use your phone then you shouldn't be paying for it!
The only reason I stick with o2 is the prepay "online" package. I actually spend quite a lot per month on my phone but find I can monitor it more easily this way.
Another thing - o2 cut our free sms! Under BT/Genie there was no limit (although you would be advised to limit WAP usage if you left your phone connected most of the time!). o2 came along and limited us to 300 a month (which I go through in about 10 days if I limit myself)
I am really dissapointed with o2 on the whole but its simply a matter of money. I think that if o2 increased their charges or removed free sms then they would lose a mass amount of customers to networks which treat them better!
