smtp set up for pop mail on at&t gprs network

After a long search, I found out that AT&T does NOT support an SMTP server for outbound POP mail on its GPRS network (source: AT&T Advanced Network Services 1-800-552-3373). I am in California. This is definately going to adversely impact a VERY large number of people who use email on the road! Does anyone have any other ideas on how to send out emails via AT&T GPRS with a PDA or a laptop, besides changing provider? I do not plan to use WAP. Thanks. FDella.
