Look at your xeon flash cover .. is it yellowish or clear white?

Posted by marinedisco
mine is yellow

Posted by Webalistic
I was wondering...

It is a know effect that heat increases sensor noise. The longer it's used, the more you get. Most DSLR's apply noise filters on long exposures by substracting a dark frame from the image.

Now... will keeping your camphone in a nice warm pocket at 37c increase noise as well?

(maybe I should get back to work in stead of coming up with these silly questions )

Posted by Bryan84
Shouldnt' SE be making it clear white?

Longer exposures usually give less noise unless you boost ISO at the same time. I think this subtraction trick is to get rid of faulty pixels. (Shoot a picture in total darkness without flash and you will see something that looks like colored stars. All image sensors have these.)

The most effective noise reduction algorithm for removing salt and pepper noise(hardware fault) is median filter. It's edge-preserving

Look at this example from Wikipedia.org:

The upper right corner looks like a K850i photo while an N95 photo would be the lower left corner.

I highly recommend to apply median filter to noisy(arised from greater ISOs) pictures, using Photoshop. but don't present them here.

Look at these pictures:

"Image with added salt and pepper noise"

"Reconstructed image using median filter"

A very good representation of noise reduction:

Noise reduction on Wikipedia

for those lazy ppl that hesitate to click the link, here is abstract:

"....Images taken with both digital cameras and conventional film cameras will pick up noise from
a variety of sources. Many further uses of these images require that the noise will be (partially)
removed - for aesthetic purposes as in artistic work or marketing, or for practical purposes such as
computer vision.
In salt and pepper noise (also known as random noise or independent noise), pixels in the image are
vastly different in color from their surrounding pixels. The defining characteristic is that the
color of a noisy pixel bears no relation to the color of surrounding pixels. Generally this type of
noise will only affect a small number of image pixels. When viewed, the image contains dark and
white dots, hence the term salt and pepper noise. Typical sources include flecks of dust on the lens
or inside the camera, or with digital cameras, faulty CCD elements.
A median filter is an example of a non-linear filter and, if properly designed, is very good at
preserving image detail. To run a median filter:
   1. consider each pixel in the image
   2. sort the neighbouring pixels into order based upon their intensities
   3. replace the original value of the pixel with the median value from the list
This type of filter is very good at removing salt and pepper noise from an image, and also causes
very little blurring of edges, and hence is often used in computer vision applications...."

Well i got tired of my posh living room-lamp and decided to put it where others might enjoy it. What do you think?!

Sorry for the blurry shots.
By the way, i got my phone repaired today since it didn't wont to start. They reflashed it and that was that. They also fixed the small problem with distorted sound when making a call. It was a flake of metal laying int the speaker! So they put a new one in. All this in a couple of hours and no extra charge for doing it so fast! Good service i'd say!

^^ Great, it looks like an Art installation.

Posted by fullforce
Yes it does. At first i wondered what the hell was wrong with my eyes. It's just hanging there and it's a bit away from the centre of the town so there isn't that many who will notice it.

erm well it wasnt at night was like nearly night though lol
erm macro, document flash on and covered the edge of the back of the phone..semmed to have some affect covering it?

Tanks guys for all your pics with the K850i !

Posted by Laxe
Here are three I've taken of my N95:

Settings are macro, auto ISO and auto everything else:

This next one is with the auto-fix which you have the option to choose just after taking a photo:

Notice there isn't too much difference, but enough.

The third one is after putting it through Photo DJ. Auto-leveled, increased contrast and lighting too:

For me it was a test for the macro ability of this phone...the phone's numeric buttons became clearer near the end at the expense of the background. I've yet to be VERY impressed with the macro abilities of this phone.

Does anyone have any tips?

Not the best shot. Just wanted to show you a part of some 30 light-art installations going on in my town. And yes, the colours here are supposed to be red. Looks like a entrance to a strip club to me.

I know of the bug but I thought it affected every K850i...maybe there was a defect with a production line for certain regions? As far as I know, most, if not all the UK K850i's have the same problem mine does.

Posted by fullforce
@Laxe
I don't think mines does. I thin it's poperly syncronized...but i might be wrong...after all i have had my phone in the shop two times now. First time- dust in the camera. Second time dead phone who wouldn't restart AND bad sound when making a call. Hurrrayyy!

Macro + flash auto

Posted by Bryan84
Here is another shot

Exposure Time: 1/20 sec
Aperture: f/280
ISO: 64
Scene: Normal
Flash used: Flash did not fire, auto mode
Image resolution: 5.04 mega pixels (1944 x 2592)

Full Size: http://www.esato.com/phonephotos/viewphotos.php?pid=8033

I think it's better to leave ISO to AUTO so sometimes the camera can snap photos at ISO64 for us.

Some "sea motifes" from my book shelf
Macro, ISO 100. Here one can see that the focus is only on the big sea shell

Macro, ISO 100. Photo DJ auto level. This shot is a little bit to bright but sharp enough. (the sand i accidently brought with me in my pockets of my beach pants from a dominican republic holiday)

As, i think, plankgatan said: try the ISO 100 when shooting with flash. It makes the shots less "bleached" and lack of detail. Okej my last shot here is a little to bright but i held the cam as close as 10 centimeters)
