parallax error refers to the way a non-SLR optical viewfinder frames the image at an offset compared to the actual image that falls on the sensor or film.

In an SLR, or a digital camera with lcd viewfinder, the image in the viewfinder is framed exactly as it appears on the censor or film. (no offset)

@max - Well .......................... make it - PARELLEL-error then mate !

@planks - Nice shots again matey . . . just a Q here matey . . . are you UPLOADIN' images as they were taken ? I mean, do you EDIT those, say, adjusting on the sharpness and all They are excellent that's why . . .

@rezec - No doubt that: planks is considered one of the BEST here at present (tranced et al) included . . . but honestly, sometimes his SHOTS seems to be . . . . . . . . . too-good-to-be-TRUE . .. well, maybe he is just that GOOD a - photographer !

plankgtan do you use any type of editing software for noise removal or photoshop or anything?
and for your night shots you just have a steady hand? or a tripod?

. . . I think this was suggested to - planks, some months ago . . . but he still feels COMFY taking medium-sized images (same with me most of the time) with majority of his UPLOADS here . . . can't BLAME the guy though . . . almost in ALL the PICTURE THREADS he is taking part in, the quality of the images he posts ALMOST looks the very ............. SAME (quality, sharpness and all) 2 or 3 MP camfones used !

Posted by max_wedge
we can find many full sized images around the place, enough to verify that Plankgatan's images are legit.

Posted by AbuBasim
Don't pay too much attention to the sharpness of the tiny images you're looking at here at Esato. Of course it'll look sharp if you scale down 5 MP to 0.48 MP (800x600), i.e. the full size images are more than ten times larger!

I can understand plankgatan's unwillingness to post the raw whole photos. I don't think he's editing the photos, but seeing the original images reveal too much of the defects in the K850i and he's too much in love with his phone to allow anyone to see the imperfections. He doesn't want to give more ammo to the Nokia groupies.

I give him credit he is a great photographer!
But he is influencing potential buyer's the photo capabilities of this phone. If plankgatan is using software why does he not admit it?

abubasim, there are enough full sized K850 images around that show reasonably sharp images. Of course any image resized will look sharper. This is no different to the K800 or even the K750 thread where no one bothers to post the large size. I myself never bothered, too much effort to post somewhere else, then have to cut and paste the url into the pictures thread. And then the pictures thread pages take ages to load etc.

Note on the first page of this thread, I got told off for posting full res images.

If anyone believes the K850 images are as sharp as they appear when resized, they need their heads read. I don't think plankgatan is trying to maintain that the pics at full size will be as sharp. This is true even of DSLR images at 1:1. If you look at any image at 1:1 you will notice artifacts of different kinds.

It's not necessary to see all of plankgatan's image at full res to be satisified with the capabilities of the K850. You only have to look at the images that many people have posted at full res, to then be able to use your own judgement to imagine how plankgatan's pics would look at full res.

I don't believe he is not trying to hide anything, this is the way picture threads have been run since the S700 (the first time images were large enough that they needed to be resized by esato.)

Here are some examples of full size, and imho they are as clear as you could expect from a small 5MP cmos sensor:

Are you all crazy??? Why are you so sure he is using software? It's quite normal that when pictures are resized smaller (as esato does when you upload image to esato), they become sharper and clearer.

It's exactly the same in the K750 and K800 picture threads but no one accused anyone of manipulating the images....sheeesh!

maybe planks using an amulet that gave him powers to capture digital crisp images...

this discussion wont go anywhere i tell yah.

Basic skills, know-how, and sheer talents are the ingredients...
we dont just shoot at scenes we wanted to take without even considering lights, coz photography is all about lights... controlling it.

if we cant multiply wot planks got in his camphone... then dont assume things. dont blame the phone, coz we all have same gadgets.. its all from SE.

"hate the game, not the player!" i too was amazed how planks got those shots, but its not impossible to replicate it... practice practice practice, do more readings... its creativity that counts most.

so lets just continue with the thread... eerr... wots this thread all about anyway?

people...
i have NEVER use any software with my cell phones pictures.....never Photoshop, etc...(i havnt even Photoshop in my laptop).................ALL this pictures is directley from the phone....100% truth.

look here....you must "see" the time in a picture & of course see where the right light is.......when you do that, you get good pictures..(remember, i take a lot of shitty pics to...who i of course throw away......but change the picture afterwards with software ??...thats not my style, i guarantee you that.

I believe you plangkatan, btw, you are a great shooter

just because GSMArena did not declare k850 as winner vs N95 doesn't mean K850 does not take good pictures, and of course it doesn't mean plangkatan is somewhat biased or a liar.

GSM ARENA sucks (like allways) on their compare phone to phone sites......

k850 take better Macro, Portrait, Flash & Night pics... then N95.....no doubt about that.

he he he...you guys are funny.....just look at max_wedge "dog" pics...it looked very sharp / awesome colors...
i bet he must used a software (of course he didnt......whats the point with taken picture then ???

plankgatan says that he take a lot of bad shots as well as good and then discards the bad ones.
maybe some people would be happy if he included all photos taken, good and bad,but the point of this thread is to showcase the imaging power of the phone.
he also says that if you take your time and experiment with the white balance/iso settings then you will produce remarkable photos such as his.
if you really want digital camera quality then take a digi camera everywhere but i prefer, like most people,to have an excellent cam phone that nearly approaches digi cam quality.
i've currently got a k800 which i find takes excellent pics and have seen nothing to stop me getting a k850 in the next few weeks.

btw, I didn't take that photo (damn wish I had a K850 to play with!)

I just found it in a review somewhere, can't even remember where, but I have a collection of full sized K850 pics I've downloaded for closer inspection, and I grabbed some good samples from that collection and uploaded them to image shack for you guys to see that fulll sized pics are still excellent quality.

The thing that is good with planks pic's is that they're good subjects and good choices. Ppl that take pic's of boring stuff like cans of coke, keyboards cd's etc dont really do the camera justice. Where as plank's pic's are good cus he takes pic's of interesting things.

where is the "camera phone pics section" for posting full size photos? i cant find it.

A guy posting photoshoped images taken from his cam phone and passing them off as original.

Wow, talk about what people would think.

I mean seriously, would anyone be that pathetic to do that? For what? So that he can prove to a bunch of guys (in a forum for god's sakes!!!) that his phone takes good pics? Even if he's (or she) is an employee of SE, the benefits of doing that is just so...inane (that's the first word that came to mind heehee)

@plankgatan, nice pics dude! Too bad the k850 won't grace Philippine shores till december, or worse, next year, or I'll be competing with you for best k850 photographer.

it doesn't end just there, remember those SE hackers that modifies the cam and acoustic drivers of such phones. i don't think nokia users can do that instead they rely on the firmware updates to see improvements on their beloved nokias. whilst SE can even update only a single part of the phone software without affecting the other.

All pictures now taken in auto, omit the flash, AND STABILIZER OFF. I noticed that by adding stabilizer the camera will pump up ISO and also caused a bit more jagginess to the picture. For those who currently owned this phone can try it out.

What is up with the colour red in every picture? It always has a pink tint to it no matter what object or environment so far.

Posted by plankgatan
its realy hard to shoot 100% sharp pics when its bad light (like this one)...

there you have the different between a "real" digi cam against a cell phone camera...a real digi cam manage bad light much easier, (because of their BIG focal lenght)...k850, N95 have only 5.5 mm....
so its quite amazing that cell phones manage it at all

big focal length does not increase light sensitivity esp. when using optical zoom it's the sensor size that makes digicams way better than cam-phones i think a standard digicam has a 1.1/8 inch of sensor compare it with a camphone sensor which was only a quart of that i guess

Posted by plankgatan
we mean the same thing..(sometimes i cant explain exactley what i mean, because my lack of English)...of course both Sensor + focal lenght + lens + software.....etc, improves the quality....but the focal lenght is a big different between cell phones & digi cameras.......

Those last 2 seem realy greay. Like the lens is dirty.

I think the first one (and others to) look a little "fuzzy" on the flowers edges. If you enhance a bit you clearly see it.
Please- any suggenstions why it sometimes looks like that?( The lens was clean and my hand fairly steady)
otherwise, the color reproduction is wonderful.

My friends cute/ugly dog. A good shot i think.
