Your photo is now set as my wallpaper..
Really a great photo, and it shows k850i's great color. Did you use BestPic??
With a k810i or a N95 the bird would have looked like a "Artic Owl".

One more question, what kind of monster is it?

he he he....you are funny guy.....(dont forgett, it still a tiny cell phone camera with a focal length on (only) 5.18mm)....ordinary digi-cams have MUCH higher focal lenght, etc.

of course you dont get every pictures with 100% sharpness, BUT average you get very good pics.

im i satisfied ??? of course i am !!!

see you

Jojo if your after great sharpness from a cam phone, look into the I-mobile 902. Recently got one (over the K850) and havent regretted it one bit! Pictures are sharp and produce great colours everytime.

Posted by *Jojo*
@soane - Is that a 5 MP camfone too matey Well actually, I was just making a BIG comparison (if there will be . . .) of images taken with the K800/K810i AGAINST that of the K850 Seeing the uploads HERE . . . I guess even the veteran-K750 can join in the arena

Posted by plankgatan
i have seen many i-mobile902 pics and they are good. but k850 takes similar outdoor pics, (and better macro/indoor pics)...... i-mobile902 take better night/low light pics, but the rest is very similar.

so if you have this extra dollars, buy k850...(sure, it cost more, but you also get more ).....i-mobile902 have a awesome camera, but the rest of the phone is mediocre. (so if you only looking for a good camera, i-mobile902 is a very good choice).
-------------------------------------------------

@*Jojo*...whatever.........

the imobile902 does have an excellent camera, but it's not available in many markets.

Posted by Brightspark
k850i pics seem to be on the crap side.

Posted by SaLiH
i have i-mobile 902, and plankgatan & max_wedge are right, i-mobile 902 takes great photos, but the phone itself is mediacore, and I'm probably going to buy K850i.

Posted by plankgatan
i have many many k750, w810, k800, k810 (and soon many) k850 pictures.

and i can tell you thing, ALL indoor/low light pics taken with k810 is way worse then k850....so what is that mean ?????

it means that k850 have a way better allround camera............

the only k810-pics who is close k850, is the daylight-pics.....(but they are still not the same)

Has anyone begun to experiment on the ISO settings on their K850i yet?

THIS I'm intently keen on finding out how it changes picture quality in many settings.

I'm sure Max_Wedge is watching this thread as closely as I am.

@ plankgatan

Can you please post the settings you used to produced these AMAZING pictures and the firmware you have?? Because I've seen some pictures on other forums and they don't look as half as good as your pictures! All the people there are complaining on how bad the phone is. Could it be possible that there is such a big difference in the K850i they sell? I mean, it shouldn't the case that the German model is worse than the one they sell in Sweden, because its all the same model! But I'ver seen so good pictures from this model so far, they really look like from a real digital camera.

Good pictures, I liked a lot, excuse my English but only translate it using google.
Did you could put a video filmed with the mobile but day to see the quality of the video with the final firmware? Thanks

buenas fotos, me gustaron mucho, disculpen mi ingles pero solo lo traduzco usando google.
¿podrias poner un video filmado con el movil pero de dia para ver la calidad del video con el firmware final? gracias

Many of the pictures posted here have their sizes reduced to a lower megapixel value, that's why they look sharp. But if you try to view them in their original 5MP size, K850 pictures look crappy compared to a dedicated p&s camera.

I believe that at the first place Plangkatan or whoever in the SE community didn't state that K850 or any camfone can be comparable to a P&S camera quality wise

anyway i'll ask you how many people print pictures above the A4 size in a camera phone?

SE themselves seem to want to convince you that their K850i is a P&S replacement! From the specifications:

5-megapixel power
The K850i Cyber-shot™ phone is a true digital still camera - down to the very last of its 5 megapixels.

anyway i'll ask you how many people print pictures above the A4 size in a camera phone?

The i-mobile 902 compares very well with a P&S camera I have printed up to A3 with excellent results.

But I agree with the previous comments about this phone, that the i-mobile 902 is an amazing camera but the rest of the phone is pretty basic, to say the least!

The K850i and the i-mobile 902 are the exact opposites of each other. One is an excellent phone with a mediocre 5MP camera and the other is a excellent 5MP camera on a mediocre phone.

Again with the i-mobile thing...
That thing is even more of a brick than Nokia phones.

How so? I assume that you're talking about the looks and not the size. It's is almost identical to the K850i in size, just 0.5mm thicker.

Posted by max_wedge
If I print my K800 pictures at 8x10 they look as good as any P&S camera. There is no evidence of the pixelation, water colour affect or noise that is evident when the photo is blown up on the computer screen.

The K800 pics look great on a computer monitor, K850 look even better. The K750 photos could be printed at 8x10, and while the pics still look good, if you look closely you can see evidence of pixelation and other artifacts. So I expect K850 photos should print pretty well on A3 sized paper:

1. K750 = 2MP, K850 = 5MP
2. K850 can print max. 8x10.
3. K850 has 250% more pixels than K750 yet an A3 page is only 242% bigger than 8x10.

So I fully expect the K850 to have enough resolution to print on A3, at slightly better quality than K750 on 8x10.

Posted by NightBlade
I am talking about the phone features/looks + weight ratio.
But that's irrelevant here, so let's stop and continue on-topic.

he he he..............here we go again.....la la la la

you guys who just say the word "digi cam" please fu##ing stop.....dont compare a tiny cell phone camera (with a focal lenght on only 5.18mm) with some digi cam !!!!!!!

you guys can buy what ever you want....im staying with my k850

PS.....ESATO (sonyericsson/general-forum) DOSENT ALLOW FULL SIZE 5 M.P. PICTURES.....OK !!!!!!!

and yes.....when i looking at some of this 5 M.P pictures in full size, they still looks good.
----------------------------------------------------------------

@drsoran2...........its NOTHING WRONG with k850 camera......the problem is behind the camera..... thats it !!!!!

------------------------------------------------------
ON TOPIC
please let us instead show some beatiful k850 pics in this thread...(we only destroy it otherwise).

use ISO and whitness balance manuel....it improves a lot.

keep the phone steady...(if you shaking, place it on the ground or something)

use daylight profile EVEN its not strong sunshine.

plankgatan,
how do you know which iso setting to use 100,200 or 400?

Posted by LCARS-Expert
The smaller number in ISO means more details.
On GSM Arena "Sony Ericsson K850 vs. Nokia N95: 5 megapixel shootout" they say that K850i used ISO 64 too! ISO 64 gives a very detailed picture. Too bad there is no ISO 64 in manual setting.

Sony Ericsson auto mode chooses 1/30 sec and ISO 64, which is a good choice, while the Nokia strangely prefers to shoot at 1/111 sec and ISO 200.

Posted by indup
so is it better to use auto or 100?

Posted by razec

On 2007-10-15 14:01:28, indup wrote:

Even with my digicam i never dared to use ISOs higher than 100, instead i use flash and have some tweaks in the exposure settings higher ISOs just increase the noise and given the fact that K850 sports CMOS sensor that produces finer yet noisier details in images switching of ISO is not an advisable idea. i think SE only incorporate that setting as part of having the cybershot branding

Posted by LCARS-Expert
If there is enough light pick auto. If there is less light the auto function might pick a higher ISO.
Also, if your hand is shaking it will be less noticed on higher ISO but it might cost you a lot of details.

Posted by jcwhite_uk
ISO doesnt always mean more deatil. It is a measurement of the shutter speed of the camera. The higher the number the quicker the shutter operates.

ISO rating really affets details. Example: If you take a photo of sand beach with ISO 500 the sand will come out blurry. With ISO 100 (or 64) you'll see sand as it is (well, you'll see it a lot more detailed than with iso 500).
ISO directly affets the shutter speed too as less detail requires less light.

Posted by plankgatan
i took some nice indoors pics with ISO 400....(had bad light)...they became very very good....like i allways say...play around with the camera settings, dony use auto all time...then you get better pictures.......

Advices from our forum's best photographer

Couldn't agree more...

Thanks to it's superpower cam features (i.e. dual flash, cybershot 2.0, and photofix and so on ) that's why SE was unofficially called the king of all cam fones

Here are some questions about the "lens glass"

How is the glass in front of the lens??
issn't it annoying, does it easy get fingerprints?
And how is the quality?? Easy to get scratches?? (får det lett riper?)

Posted by >500
@plank
what happened to the '3' logo from the back of your phone i thought the pics you showed when you got it had a 3 logo on the back?

Posted by plankgatan
i have clean the lens glass (mineral glass) ONE time...(thats true)....

the mineral glass is build in "some" millimeter, so you cant touch it easily....ITS PERFECT....(now when i have k850, i wouldnt have any different lens cover....like i said, it works perfect).
-------------------------------------------------------------------

@>500...that was my friend k850...(he bought a 3-branded k850...i didnt ....i never buy branded/locked cell phones...allways 100% unlocked.
