Those pics turned out really nice plankgatan!
Mine didnt come out quite as nice as yours, the lightning and colours was a tad of.
I should have mixed with the settings before but it was just some testshots! (I shot with a K800i)

Posted by plankgatan
this is actually auto.....(the whole trick is to find a stronger light source then the lightness from the sideway-environment,
you got me ??????? (the object you point at, shall have the strongest lightness, then you get this type of result

thats what photographing is all about................

i walked past this earlier at work and it looked like a good test for the k850, nothing exciting but a good challenge for detail. And it came out well. Ill take some more exciting pics soon of the hotels etc

These photos are all very good, although I do stick to my point about them always looking better when they're not shown at 100% (thanks to the horrid filtering). The cynic in me says that you could get the same results on a K800 or K810, or to a certain extent on the K770 or T650 (which, bar low light, are bloody good).

I've got photos that are also as good (in my mind) that I will upload at some point, but I'd be interested to know what percentage of pictures taken are considered good enough to go here. Are these really representative of the photos the average person is getting? Are you sifting through to find the very best examples?

Auto seems very hit and miss on all SE cameras. Sure, any pro or semi-pro will be more careful - but this isn't a camera aimed at either type of user. Flash problems aside, the focussing is often out and the image stabiliser (even on 037 firmware) doesn't prevent blurring as it does on the K800/K810. In fact, some of the worst photos I've got are with this enabled! God, I hope this is a firmware issue.

Bright daylight photos are usually fine. Dark scenes are often fine, and the flash is powerful. It's the in-between shots, which are either blurred or extremely noisy.

I'd quite like a thread to post the pictures that didn't work as intended (and I don't mean covering the lens, being drunk etc) so we can fully see how it works, and how things might be improved.

Full size pictures never look perfect. For internet sharing a 2MP picture is more than enough. Only Hasselblad gives perfect full size pictures, you can't expect a cameraphone to do the same, can you?

No problem. Thank you for the kind words

I do use stabilizor on all the time. I never found it to effect the picture negatively. I rarely use any other than auto for the profile. I do use the twilight portrait if it is dark. Also I sometimes play with the metering, turning things down to keep the flash from washing faces out. I normally take photos more than once to try different settings. If it is a time sensitive photo, I will do testing beforehand on throw away shots to get settings before the actual photo needs to be shot.

I also normally run my photos through Picasa and click "I'm feeling lucky" to auto set the brightness, contrast, and color correction. I don't know any "real" photographers that don't do at least slight post-production on photos. Its just a requirement. This is true of most arts.

Glad I spent the money I did for this phone.

i just took these on the way home of my car, just when all the things about the phone being so buggy are really beginning to get to me, i forget it all when i see how good of a camera i have for a phone.

and they look just as good full size

...and just about any digital camera, down to P&S quality, depending of course how you define "perfect". If by that you mean that a photo still looks very good at full size, with no hints of neither noise nor noise reduction, then a digital camera costing less than half than the K850 will produce perfect full size pictures.

The camera phone makers sure have managed to lower the bar for what people find acceptable quality from a camera phone.

@ donjuan

Those pics of the MX-8 could easily have been on the first page of a known Car Magazine.

Amazing, espacially the macro on the wheel.

RX-8, of course it is.. I knew that, I just didn't write it.

Nice pics. Did you touch them up in photoshop cs2 or just resize them?

Posted by DonJuan
the only thing i did was added the frame and adjusted the contrast. I usually do this to all pics
thanks tho.

There were a couple i took which were a bit noisy but i just didnt use them

yeah i was really suprised with that wheel shot plank, i didnt expect it to come out like that at all.

Plank I took a pic of my wife last night, with the flash though and it didnt come out so well. You mean in natutal light?

Jojo i posted the pic from my canon before of that shot, in HDR in the non phone forum.

Posted by plankgatan
no no no..with flash i get AMAZING PICTURES, (in all sizes)
its ONLY close up pics on people whitout flash (outdoor) i cant manage...think its realy strange..but like i said before, we have winter here with quite little sunshine..

Posted by DonJuan
ill give it a go tomorrow and post some results

Posted by *Jojo*
@don - OK . . . is it POSSIBLE if you can make a side-by-side comparison between those two mazda shots: (K850 and Canon cam)

@planks - I would NOT be surprised to see a veeeery SHARP (close-up magwheel) SHOTS, as long as it's TAKEN OUTDOORS with the SUN shining at it's PEAK !

Posted by chombos1
@plank

maybe you shoud try the ((spot metering mode)) along with the ((portrait scene)) and Bestpic turned on...

that is the best way i can snap pics of faces in outdoors by a K800...

Guys just to show you all that turning ON your stabilizer does affect the quality of photos. It increases the red colour in a picture. See below.

Twilight landscape with stabilizer:

Twilight landscape without stabilizer:

Full size:

So the conclusion is that , by turning ON the stabilizer DOES affect photo quality!!~~ I myself prefer the photo taken without the stabilizer turned ON.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i get crazy soon...
i get very good pictures EXCEPT FOR CLOSE UP PICS ON PEOPLE..(maybe, just maybe i need better light to get this perfect quality on peoples faces...but i get very good sharpness on everything else....so bloody strange.

indoor quite bad light...awesome quality, (even in full size)

night pics...(this pic is not about my question...is to dark of course)

Give that Car Above as Xmas gift ..

im really impressed with the macro on this camera and the night shots, david nice macro shots there.
Plank thats a nice night shot too, the camera doesnt lose any detail on the lights in the background

Posted by MadRabbit
These are three samples that I post first time here... building with contrast...

And two macro photos - it's great for depth - amazing small camera with good
focusing mechanism, also nice white blance under daylight.

And good comparison of Cloudy and Direct sunlight here...
although I don't like sky colour a bit... it's a bit pupple instead of deep sky blue.

All photos are not retouched.
