Quick question, I'm going to Austria on Holiday for Christmas, and will be getting my K850i at the start of December all being well. I'd like to take this as my camera for the holiday, so if I get a 2gb card, how many pics will I be able to store?

Nice photos guys. Glad I read this thread as I'd just read some horror story in another thread here saying how crap this phone is and I was beginning to regret ordering one! Certainly doesn't look that way to me now.
My new phone will arrive next week some time I hope and I'll post a few photos of my own from sunny London;)
Cheers,
jahman

Don't be dishearten. I was like you when I first switched from K800 to K850.
If you have shakey hands, on the Stablizer.
Try to snap photos with the touch screen instead of the press button to give it a try first.
Focus well before snapping

More than 300 pictures xD. The camera screen states so lolz. More than 300 pictures, it will display "300+" If you really want the amount, what I can say is a photo of fine quality produced about lesser than 1.5mb. A 2Gb card is 2000mb, take away some internal calculations lets say it left about 1600mb. You do the calculation from here on.

if you want awesome macro....you have two ways
1...(who i think is the best way)...no use the flash...(you gets thicker colors, more natural colors & contrast)....daylight sunshine is the best light source to shoot macro, (but NOT directley in the sun)......if you little shaky, place the phone on the ground(table, etc) zoom 2-4 clicks..(it focus closer that way)
2...use the flash.....you gets realy awesome focus with the flash (because of the extrem light source).....allways use ISO.100.........zoom 2-4 clicks (it focus closer that way) , (if you little shaky, place the phone on the ground(table, etc)
something like this maybe...(no flash, just pure indoor light....afternoon sunshine is of course much better)

I used to use this trick on my old camera ( before I bought my K750 )
and it is back again with K850
in next pic I edit the pic ( more contast and more color ) using photo dj
and I used neat image for eraseing the noise (( the pic become noisy because of the hight contrast and the vivid color ))
^_^
the pic before neat image
and here is the original pic

Guys, my K850i just arrived;)!
Trouble is, I can't find my 512MB microSD card which should be around somewhere. Is there internal memory to allow you to take a few photos? I didn't get a card with my phone(O2 UK).
Cheers,
jahman

your k850 should come with at least a 512mb M2 card no?
Posted by jahman
Ah, thanks guys. There is something in there in fact. Didn't notice it at first. I assume it's something like a 512MB card. I think it's saying I can take 300+ photos? Charging the battery up at the moment so don't want to unplug to investigate.
Will try and take some pictures this afternoon;).

Hey Guys,
Well, unfortunately the weather really sucks today in London but I've taken a few shots for you nevertheless.
Being new to the camera and wanting to get some shots together to transfer to my PC ASAP, I didn't mess around with any settings on the camera. All the following shots were taken in fully automatic mode in crappy weather;). I'll take some more when the weather is better;).
I have to say that I'm very impressed with the point and shoot capability of the K850i. As I say, I just left the camera in auto and I've never used a Cybershot anything before so I'm a camera phone virgin;). One or two shots were a bit blurry, otherwise I must've managed to hold it steady enough to take a decent shot. Great stuff.

Nice! Not a lot of colour to take advantage of right now with this gloomy weather.

No, the weather's pretty shocking.
Some more photos here http://picasaweb.google.com/jim.herd
Downscaled unfortunately but you can still see the quality.

Should've uploaded another. Looks pretty good, in fact.
Need to wait for some decent weather to really do justice to the camera.

I've uploaded two full sized photos to the Photo Gallery if you'd like to see them:

Another failure:
When using the flash it processes the picture like crap.
example:
It looks like this picture was taken at night:
but as you can see on this picture without flash, it's actually in the afternoon (daylight).
:S

@Duran:
try to make your pic in ((Twillight portrait mode ))
there is nothing wrong with your pic if you took it on normal mode...
again.. try it on Twillight portrait mode:
all of the SE cybershot series is like that ((removing much of the scene light in terms of the flash firing in normal mode))
i have tried it nearly thousands of times on my K800... so make it in Twlght prtrt mode.

look at how compressed the pictures are on fine mode
$"CAMDRIVER0: 5M LOW COMPRESSION"
0D 02 00 3C // Start sending 13 bytes at adress 3C
DC 05 // JPEG_MAX_CODE_SIZE = 1500d
B0 04 // JPEG_MIN_CODE_SIZE = 1200d
78 05 // JPEG_TARGET_CODE_SIZE = 1400d
50 // JPEG_INIT_QUALITY = 80d maxium of 80%
46 // JPEG_FIRST_QUALITY = 70d
3C // JPEG_LAST_QUALITY = 60d u could end up with 60%
$f $ra 1111111111 $d0002
it will achieve a maxuim compression of 80% which is crap u could end up with pics compressed at 60% it's just completey rubbish
if u would like to know anything else about the camdriver just ask
Posted by Duran
so change it;p

Lol, thanks for the tip..much better now:)
Though now there's a lot more noise
Posted by chombos1
well...
as i expected it's just like K800
for the noise try to play around with iso (decrease it)(it will not affect your exposure value on the scene, maintaining the same light but with lesser noise)

is this K850 camera driver or K800 ?
I dont know why sony Keep putting the compress to this while it can be lower without a crash or problem to the camera

With the current compression in the K850, what's the average file size of a photo with the quality set to Fine?

1 MB
the maximum I got was 1,552 KB
when I use the photofix some of the pic reach 2MB

That's pretty low compression. An uncompressed 5MP photo needs more than 14 MB on disk. When I use the Optimizer in Paint Shop Pro when saving JPEG files, a compression value of 1 gives a file size of almost 4 MB. I can then bring up the compression to 10, giving the same file size as on your photos, without any visible degradation in photo quality.

@plankgatan,
It looks like you are applying too much sharpening when shrinking your photos. I downloaded your full size photo and shrunk it to your favorite 778x584 size and got this:
Compare this to your over-sharpened version:
Notice the sharpening artifacts on the tree branches against the blue sky.

esato resize is very bad. Also acdsee resize is the worse, even if you select 100% compression. Photoshop resize is the best ! From online photo albums, photobucket is the best for resiezing pics.

i dont know how you shrink your pictures, but i use paint...it allways ends up perfect
this pic is actaully shoot in early morning (up here in Sweden the sun rise quite late on the winter)...think the result is realy good for this kind of light
full size..

@plankgatan
Don't shrink your photos in paint, paint is the worst for that job, it reduces image quality with the size. No wonder you can notice the compression on the tree branches against the blue sky in your photo.
Try to shrink one photo in paint, and than save one copy as jpeg, and pne as 24-bit bmp, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
