Not AFAIK. MSB parses data out of the backup files on your Mac. iPD just accesses your iPhone when it's connected.

I'm loving it so far. It won't replace my TyTN II as a data phone, but it has replaced my M600 (as I recently sold my P1) as my main calling phone with a few extras.
I'm running t-mobile on it now and the only thing I can't do so far is youtube as it requires EDGE or a wifi connection and there is no wifi near my office so I'll have to wait until I get home for that. Safari, pop email and gmail all work fine.

AFAIK, inputting the correct APN settings for the simcard you've inserted (into an unlocked/activated) iPhone will allow browsing. The YouTube issue is because Masseur doesn't have an EDGE or WiFi connection.

Also what tariffs are people on who are using unlocked iPhones, do people make use of the web browsing?
I fancy one but don't fancy the 18 month £35 a month tariff that comes with it, also thinking the phone you get on upgrade almost pays for your iPhone and you can get a decent data package and have the same functionality as you would have otherwise.
Is it true that the new ones from the US cannot be unlocked? How is the 16gb one looking for unlocking?

so, youtube won't work on wifi either. I get about 3 or 4 seconds of play then a message, usually "cannot connect to youtube"
googling suggests a few fixes but I'd prefer to get feedback here for what is the best fix (please)?

I'm just syncing my contacts and i'm wondering why emails aren't being added? Using address book on a mac and only numbers and address's are being synced, you can manually add but they don't seem to transfer over?

sussed my youtube problem.
when I setup my home wifi last night I typed the wep key in lower case, but it is actually uppercase, however the iphone didn't complain.
strangely, when you are not in a hotspot, and because t-mobile don't have EDGE, you can't use youtube because you get the error that an EDGE network or wifi is required. However, it recognised I was in my own hotspot but because it couldn't actually use it, it was trying to use GPRS for youtube but of course its too slow.
I noticed that the EDGE stats showed 36mb used which gave me the clue, and also the wifi icon was only showing intermittedly.
anyway, with the correct uppercase WEP key its all working fine so I'm a happy chappy

Have you checked the box to sync email accounts? It's on the info tab on iTunes.

aarrggghhh! why can't itunes group tracks together which have the same album title? I have 700 CD's!
googling tells me it looks at artist as well as album title so I have to specifically (and manually!) join the tracks together using the compilation setting
WMP is showing them correctly!
as I said... arrrrggghhh! (unless you know better!?

it seems ok going back through pages but as I click links and move forward, the next page appears in the original font sizes etc meaning I have to zoom on each page I open so I can read it

is this on your iPhone or with iTunes on your pc/mac?
If its within iTunes, can you not click on the artist column header?

sorry, I should have made it clear that I'm talking about "various artists" type CD's.
sorting by artist will just scatter them even more, unfortunately
itunes seems to group the tracks by album title AND artist. Even if you change the sort to Album, rather than Album and Artist, it still shows them as two (or more) separate CD's because the artist names are different.
Even single artist CD's where perhaps one or two tracks are a collaberation and so the artist name includes another artist name, these are shown as separate CD's despite the album title being the same!

finally sorted my music and got it loaded. had to scan a few album covers as googling dink bring them up. I guess I have some fairly obscure compilations!
anyway... next... went looking for a couple of games as I was surprised there is none loaded, but all I can find is online games that only work in safari.
are there any free or cheap games for iphone that can be installed? I'm not fussy, just a solitaire or bublet/bejewled type game

The isn't anything installable there all webapps, unless you have a jailbroken phone with the installer.app on it? If so then add community sources and some more apps and games will appear in the list.

It wasn't the installer app that was the problem it's the fact i tried to update the firmware and went the wrong way about it and ended up frying the USA model i had. The is no legitimate way to install games apart from using web apps unless there has been a development between now and then. I have bejewelled and a few others taken from the apple site which run fine. I do remember you mentioning that you have unlimited data so it shouldn't be a problem cost wise surely? Can't see you having problems with installer either.

ah, ok. I'm just being very careful with everything I do so as not to brick it.
as you say, data is not a problem on web'n'walk but Qantas haven't got their inflight wifi going until late this year so I was looking for a few things to pass the time when I head home in a couple of week.
Guess it'll be back to my trusty TyTN II for that then!

You'll be ok with installer then, i guess i should try flying with them. Everytime i fly with someone they say airplane mode isn't allowed, wtf is that about? Didn't get told this time though they must have thought it was an iPod touch.

I have a iphone that i bought of Coxy from here and it still has the original firmware on it 1.0.2 can i upgrade to the latest and everything will be ok? Do i need to use the same program to unlock it as was used before or can i use any program and is there an "idiots" guide to doing it??
Also does anyone keep getting a message pop up every few minutes saying " this accesory is not compatible on iphone" and then asks if i want to switch to flight mode!!

another question from me about video names
I have converted a whole load of music video tracks for the iphone and named the files as
Artist - track title
In the video selection screen you only get to see about 15 characters and then ... (i.e. dot dot dot)
i.e.
The Beautiful Sou...
The Cranberries...
Destinys Child 1s...
George Michael ...
etc
and although there is the artwork there I'd still like to see the full name.
I could rename the files so that they are
track title - artist
but then they same artist won't be grouped together.
The video selection screen doesn't switch to landscape (which would give a wider viewing of titles so is there another way to do this that I have found yet?

just upgraded to a 16gb one from my stock for the hell of it.
The 16gb is allot better, my internet seems faster, and the speakers are soo loud in comparison to the 8gb
saying that the 1.1.3 firmware is annoying me so may downgrade it to 1.1.2 again

I was thinking about upgrading to 1.1.3 but after reading around the net it seems there are a few issues such as text conversations out of order and weak signals and such. I would like to be able to move my desktop icons around though and the extra features in maps looks neat too
anyway, I will wait for the next version (and feedback) although I may get a 16gb by then... 8gb just doesn't enough and I'm already trading off between music and music videos (and photos!)

1.1.3 is fine for me apart from when i want to look at a txt convo sometimes it takes awhile to load and i get a white screen for a few seconds, other than that it's great. Gutted i didn't wait though in the same position as you with music and videos, 8GB is too small but i may just hang in there until something better than 16GB comes along.

well, I already knew about the 16gb as it had been announced just shortly before, but I had no idea if I would like the iphone and didn't want to spend any more than neccessary to check it out.

Well, i do not regret even one bit i upgraded to 1.1.3. I even suggest you do the same. I have noticed better signal, better battery life, 1.1.3 has also solved some issues i had with previous versions. I guess is kind of relative..
I see no reason for me to go for 16GB, i find 8GB to be just perfect. Even if what the guy claims appears to be truth i do not have any needs for louder speaker. Faster internet? If there was no 3.5G chip added (right?), i see no reason how 16GB can be faster? You talking edge or wifi here? Maybe the cpu was OCed and the pages render bit faster. Or maybe it is just your imagination?

laura, I think you can just pop ur sim in the new phone and it will activate with itunes, I think. Ask someone at cpw.
I have over 30gb of music along and 16gb isnt big enough, but it's better then 8 and I just rotate my phone use
1.1.3 is ok, but just has loads of buggy annoying things like re-setting the spring board when I use installer etc

Maybe your "upgrading method to 1.1.3" failed somewhere. My spring board stays as it should when using installer. I haven`t encountered a single issue with 1.1.3,.. Unfortunately i can`t say that about 1.1.2 >..
I also have a big music library (over 200GB) but i only carry with me about 300-500mb of it, since i listen to my playlist for about 2 or 3 days then i make a new one. But some people carry whole discographies with them,.. i find that insane

AFAIK jailbreak bypasses the activation and lets you install "3rd party apps" via installer.
Unlock means you can put in any card you want. I suggest you check with one of your friends about what you get when jailbroken, then decide if you like/want it or not.

Is the connector 'clean' on the bottom of the phone?
Sounds like the iPhone thinks you're plugging in unsupported devices i.e. some iPod dock/speakers.
