I've heard O2 are going to get a beasting from OFCOM

There is no way O2 can hardlock a phone to one SIM, that's way above monopoly, that's full on entrapment.

nononono.. not allowed

Still getting my iPhone from O2 and never ever using it on O2

Posted by haynesycop
Yet another contract for you then? Why don't you just import it'll be cheaper without a contract to pay surely?

Posted by fatreg
nonono..

£269 end of.

What i wanna know is. if i buy an o2 iPhone next friday will i be able to get it up and running with my existing o2 contract sim?

I would assume you would.

normally when you plug your 02 sim in a phone it comes up with all the settings for MMS and GPRS, btw if you have difficutlties ring 02 it's free

I've heard that you'll only be able to use particular simcards with the O2 iPhone i.e. not exisiting ones.

flaming hell do 02 think they have the crown jewels here

next thing we'll know is they'll be going back to lock in sims

Eugh!

You guys seen the UK ad for the iPhone?

I could say I actually hate it.

Posted by haynesycop
I've just got some videos from youtube using youtubex. I made the extension .flv and then dragged them into iSquint to convert to MP4, then put them in iTunes. When i go to play them there is no video just sound. I have added TV shows the same way although they where from my HD not youtube. Any ideas?

I have added the appropriate files from the virginizer folder that i downloaded and have put it into /usr/bin

Then it tells you to go to terminal and type;

ssh -1 root iPhones IP Address

I have done this but i get an error and just wondered if somebody knows what to do to rectify it?

Here is a screenshot so you can see what i mean;

you are typing a 1 when you should be typing an L. Just copy and paste the text from modmyifone.com don't type it, if you copy and paste it, you cannot go wrong.

O2 have scrapped the 200Mb limit for data.

Posted by haynesycop
I tried a 1 and an l, neither worked, i copied and pasted and typed it myself loads of times. In the end my iPhone was buggered so i had to restore it myself, really want to update but after last time i'm reluctant. Anybody want to do it for me lol. Also wondering why my music videos don't work i have put them in itunes as movies and music videos and they still don't play just sound. I checked beforehand and they play on my iMac no problem, rather strange.

The best thing is that the screen rotates depending on how you hold it.

just got my new iphone, its the 4GIG version though, they are giving employee's to use, to help customers etc and for my own personal use. Can use it as long as i stay with the company. But its sweeeeeett.

I love the safari browser, ipod function, your tube function, the photo's look superb, compared to my mates lg viewty, the photo's on the screen look much better than on the LG screen, even though LG has a better camera, we did a comparison. I love the coverflow function etc too. So far am happy with it. I will only be using it for mainly internet and ipod function though.

its not a demo version, its a full version am able to use all the functions on it.

@ missuk been working with them for over a year now.

and i will check out that app later. thanks

Ok people I need your help. Im going to buy an iphone unlocked on ebay from within the UK. Some apparantley even come with 1.1.1 firmware, anyway I have 2 questions.

Do I still need to activate it somehow or do I just stick my sim card in it as its unlocked?

If I want to transfer music/video/pics to it will itunes recognise it right of?

Thanks

If you're buying it unlocked, 99% of the time it will be activatedand you simply have to put your sim card in it, and yes iTunes will just see it and it'll work straight away.

if buying an iphone from an apple shop in america do you still have to take out an at&t contract?

Posted by wlz
how much is apple in de us

Posted by mswallis
The process for buying an iPhone is exactly the same in every country it is sold. When you go to the store, all you are doing is buying the iPhone hardware, you do not sign up for a contract in store full stop. The phone is however pretty useless, to gain access to the music player, you tube and all the other stuff the phone must be activated, whether by hacking it or the legal way of going through iTunes and signing up for a contract.

Posted by bavlondon2
So in theory could I just buy the phone from the shop and unlock it myself without taking out the contract?

Posted by Mr Miyagi
i dont really like this iphone anymore, only had it a day. The texting is sooo annoying, can't text with phone under the table or while driving lol. No seriouslly, i can't get used to, and don't like touch screen buttons, i prefer the buttons on my N73 and the trusty joystick. Yourtube is good on the iphone though, however thats the only good thing about it. But I can get that on N95 8GIG etc, and loads more applications, i prefer buttons on my phone, thats how i like it lol. Even when the s60 touch comes out, i doubt i would go for it. I am going to be getting the N95 8GIG or anything better, with buttons from Nokia when my upgrade is due in April

Posted by smilerthe cheshirecat
I had locked up my (free costing method) unlocked iPhone by upgrading to 1.1.1 but since purchased a licence for the iphonesimfree.com.. and it "unbricked" the phone features on the iPhone and have since upgraded firmware to 1.1.1

I had been using my P1i for a week again... oh I missed the iPhone.... and I really love my P1i...

Anyway... Anyone using iFuntastic on the Mac? You can rename the icon labels on the iPhone... Simple but tis nice to see "Mark's iPhone" in place of phone...

iPhone isn't out until tomorrow (9th Nov) in the uk. UK iPhones will run firmware 1.1.2, this cannot be unlocked (yet).

The one's on eBay are iPhones from the USA whic run firmware 1.1.1 which can be unlocked.

Posted by bavlondon2
Ah i see ok thanks. Hopefully there will be an unlock so i can save a few bob on the phone itself.

Then again if i buy one of ebay ill need to unlock it again when I update to 1.1.2 right? So am i not better off just buying it from the shops for 270 and then getting it unlocked myself.

Does anyone know of any people/places that have been unlocking iphones so far around London that I could go to. Id like to try it myself (when the 1.1.2 unlock becomes available but dont want to risk messing it up)

Posted by haynesycop
GET IN!

Finally managed to update to 1.1.1 and everything is working, oooooo i'm so proud lol!

Posted by chrisfirst
Will the 1.1.2 has sms forwarding? This is the only thing which hold me back...

Didn't you watch The Gadget show last week ?
most of us saw it... and to be quite honest the texting method on the phone put me right off, they were also saying it had a not a good camera I totally disagree with that as ive seen H.Cops thread

the N95 8GB isn't out on 02 I asked today about it and they didn't even know when or if they'd have it currentley Vodafone have it..

Ive left 02 today and im going with Vodafone,
can't afford the N95 8GB though it's a bit pricey atm lmao!

Im totally stressed out after 2 calls to 02 today requesting my PAC Code read my thread in General for details if your bored lol

There are no unlocking solutions for iPhones with v1.1.2. No doubt as soon as the handset/firmware gets released, there will be people beavering away at solutions.

i know its not out on o2 the 8 gig version but when its my upgrade time, it will be out or even better

Posted by m8cky
haynescop
Whats the benifits to upgrading??

Posted by haynesycop
Well the things i have noticed are;

1. iTunes music store icon on the home screen.

2. Contacts option in settings which gives you the following options;
Sort Order
Display Order

3. Within settings under general is home button which allows you to double click to go to home, phone favorites or iPod and also an option to show iPod controls when playing music.

4. Under iPod in settings there is a video and TV out options to start playing video from beginning or where left off. TV Out has widescreen and TV signal, PAL & NTSC.

Can't say i've noticed much else, although there is probably more. It isn't anything major apart from the iTunes music store. I only updated because of that.

Are o2 selling the 4Gb version for the moment? and at £269?

Posted by bavlondon2
Is it true that once you have unlocked it, simply connecting to itunes with an internet connection will lock the phone back up?

No, only if you update the firmware, but it asks you if you want to do this, just press no. You do not have to upgrade the firmware at all.

Thats what I thought.
