Well it's just come out. The iPhone is now on 1.1.1

Remember everyone, do NOT update to it if you want to unlock your phone!

Posted by Superluminova
so whats new?

Posted by amnesia
iTunes online store, you can view your headsets battery on the phone, better speaker volume, and you can double tap the home button to launch the iPod.

That's about it. Oh and if you press spacebar twice it acknoledges it as a period.

Not even worth the update IMO

Posted by Superluminova
That full-stop from the spacebar is a good idea.

probably worth following this at engadget

We're hearing numerous reports of "Incorrect SIM" errors on unlocked iPhones after the update -- user beware!

I've been following Gizmodo.

@amnesia,

The unlocking problem seems to be sorted now just not all the other customisations yet.

ya update seems to work you just need your at&t sim.. i told everyone to keep that lying around in the box...

this is good.. i want to update but 3rd is more important right now.. at least with the new firmware the resources will be devoted to opening it again...

Hi all,

Again just in case i am actually wrong in my assumptions about 02 or Apple having to unlock the iPhone which i do some how doubt. At least we know after using a 02 iPhone PAYG Sim we will still be able to unlock them.

just checked on gizmodo and hackintosh, they both say that no solution is there yet.
Trying to unlock it or upgrading from an unlocked version results in NO SIM working. Not even AT&T sims.

So I still say stay away from 1.1.1 for now.

lol ya.. it stays unlocked proabbly but you can't re-activate it lol

Hi all

OK then back to plan A force 02 or Apple to have to unlock it then.

people may be able to force apple or o2 to unlock the iphone, but its apple/o2 that would set the price for the unlock and i highly doubt it will be under £30 the unlock price i would put it over £100 probably to get it unlocked since its the network who will decide how much they will charge if they are having to unlock the handset. not worth the hassle, that why i am staying clear off the iphone and looking forward to the nokia n95 8 gig

Just read on the BBC news site that updating an unlocked iPhone to 1.1.1 leaves the phone 'permanently inoperable':

Apple iPhone warning proves to be true

Posted by batesie
"Some owners are reporting on technology blogs and Apple's own forums that the update is deleting contacts information, as well as photos and music, on iPhones that have not been modified in any way."

Well thats bad. Sh!t updates from apple.

Is it true that you can choose to update though? There is no auto update once connected to itunes is there?

Posted by batesie
not sure, best to keep your ibone away from the dreaded applehatesunlockers.com for now
