I think it works according to your circumstances whether this is your housing arrangement... the facilities you have or not got.... you accrue points...
Found this... may explain better...

It depends if you have kids or anywhere to live. I went through all this when i found out my girlfriend was pregnant. They said we could have a council house in a shitty estate in leeds 20 miles away from where i live!! I said no so they offered us a horrible flat/hostel which was awful. Even though we had high points as we were expecting a child and we said we were being kicked out of our houses so had no where to live, they still couldnt help us. To many people are after council houses where i live, its near impossible to get a mortgage unless you have rich parents and even renting is hard too many people want to live here.I got lucky and ended up renting. So unless you have kids you will be at the bottom of the pile

Councils do let out accomadation in bad areas my mate has a kid and her area is a real dump but her home is nice, her neighbours are the teenage moms from hell
I guess i'll have to wait and see what comes along for me,
I might even have to look at Private places..
god everythings so expensive when it comes to getting a place lol
Posted by MWEB
We have Housing agencies here Miss UK, Unless you have half a dozen kids, and are extremely unfuusy as to where you live, CH is a waste of time IMO.
Rental agencies will do all the paperwork for you, if your on modest (or no )income you will be entitled to Housing benefit, round here if your prepared to have the council pay your HB direct to them, you can move in immediatly with a minimal deposit.
Posted by Miss UK
Hmm I wonder if there are any Rental Agencies here,
ive only signed to Dudley Council but they cover quite a large area!
I guess cos im on my tod I will get a wack place but theres no harm in going to look at it..
if it's that bad and you turn it down what happens then?
Posted by Cycovision
Nothing, you have to wait for them to offer you another property
Do a google for "(your county or your city) housing association"
A mate of mine was on the council list for eight years and was never even invited to view a property
Posted by Miss UK
Cyco they didn't see him as priority unless he hasn't got kids then screw you basically thats what there saying
I have something they have to value though im living in cramped situations so im hoping they will see this as a big point thing
i'll take a look at Dudley council site tho
Posted by Adz21
They wont care that you are cramped, you have a roof over your head and are on your own once they place you they don't rush to move you again! My girlfriends Auntie and husband have two kids and are living in a cramped two bedroom flat in a shitty area and have been told it will be about 10 years before they get a house! Your best bet is to rent and get housing benefits and if you are over 25 you are entitled to working tax credits too
Posted by Miss UK
i'll try and hack it for as long as possible here but yeah my mates saying that council are wack and private is better, I can get some housing benefits towards my place for that I know
Posted by Miss UK
Geez I still haven't recieved my points and things are getting bad to worse living at my mates lol
I need a place BIGTIME.. If I emailed them council etc and told them my circumstances would it not do anything?
How much rent could I get for a 1 bed flat If I were to get a private one how much do they pay towards it anyone know?
Posted by Cycovision
It depends on each particular council and your circumstances. I'm paying £360 per month for my privately owned 1 bed flat which is a little over the odds but gas and electricity is inclusive, so it's quite cheap really.
Round here (Newark, Nottinghamshire) an unfirnished 1 bed flat goes for between £220 - £500 per month depending on size and location.
How much the council pays towards it depends on your income and expenditure. For example, the last time I claimed JSA they paid all of the rent minus a £15 deduction (i.e. £345) because of the inclusive gas and electricity. If it wasn't for that, they would have paid all of it.
To be honest, I think they just pick a number out of a hat or something because the figures never seem to add up!

I don't think you will hear from them about a council house at all, you will be at the very bottom of a huge list to get a house. There is always someone worse off than yourself.
Have a look on here for housing benefits, i can't imagine you will get much help if you are working full time and have no dependents though.
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeeve[....]ts/housing_benefit.asp#howmuch
i would also look on your local councils website for information on it as well.
http://www.dudley.gov.uk/advice--benefits/benefits/who-can-claim
If you do get it you will or may get council tax benefits too which is a help, i was originally paying £140 a month now i pay £15.
Have a look on here as well to see if you can get working tax credit
http://www.taxcredits.inlandr[....]v.uk/Qualify/DIQHousehold.aspx
it all helps towards the bills

it's pretty hilareous how they operate,
if you have kids or are a asylum seeker then you get accomadation straight up. When it comes to people who have motivation then they ain't willing to help.
I will findout my letter use the ref code and email them at the council they will have to help me cos I can't stay here..
Luckily I may have a new job any day soon btw so I can get some cash together and if nothng i'll just look for private the cheapest as poss

Private IS better, wouldn't you rather own your own place than have to settle with what the council offer you?
Posted by Miss UK
Yeah I was intrested to see what kind of place the council would get me though however huge waiting list no points find urself a private place lmao! I would like 1 with a cooker if poss for £300 with my luck tho looks like i'll have to pay extra!
Posted by p900 lover
To be honest i think they should scrap the whole council house idea, if your going to need a house after having a child then then you should get tha sorted FIRST. and the system is just being abused by people who think they can get a house for free if they have a child or other ways. im not aiming the this at you just saying what i think
Posted by Miss UK
I don't want kids so me and you are in the same thinking believe me
my sisters married got a kid and moving into a council house so quick what about me? sod me... not fair really
Posted by Miss UK
I found this
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/vi[....]-16060027.rsp?pa_n=2&tr_t=rent
I don't know how long it's free for but im hoping I should be working soon,
got interviews coming out of my ear..
btw with these sites there saying request detail,
can you ask them for pictures anyone know?
Stourbridge would be ideal,
I know where this flat is I saw it from the front already, it's near the bus-station and i could get to work easily from there
it says no DSS im assuming no unemployed right?
I sent a touching email to my council btw still no response im hoping they will anyday now

Why not just go and buy a place to live. I bought my first flat when i was 21. It was'nt up to much...but it was a step onto the property ladder. I just sold my house two months ago and made £100,000 clear profit! It was tempting to go on a spending spree but i invested it back into another (bigger and newer) house. In a few years i should be able to sell at a tidy profit and downsize but have no mortgage to pay. It will be hard to begin with but will be worth it in the end. Just remember that its a long term investment but you've got to live somewhere so you may as well try to make money from it in the long run. My present mortgage is £1,100 per month (+ bills) but i look at it as an investment as money spent on rent is just paying someone else's mortgage for them. Easy to say, i know, but you have to start somewhere. Hope this helps!

I intend to do that when im ready with a close friend. But atm I need to seek a place before I can do that! Its temporary for a few yrs till im ready and got the cash etc
Posted by Miss UK
got my points 78 total is this good or bad
Posted by Miss UK

We just had a reply from one of the local housing agencies. We will be getting an upper floor flat to start and then a 2 bedroom house once the babies born in July. Or we can wait and just go into a house shortly before the due date

Andy have a look at your local councils site you may have that thing aswell,
just use your number and D.O.B to login
rent is pretty cheap £200 a month
they emailed me back today and told me that people over 60 could get the bungalows shame I really would of liked one as the area would be quiet,
and they also have a garden, come in handy for my niece when shes abit older
just have to keep checking the site,
been told it's updated every wednesday with new propertys seems good to me atleast you get to choose

I don't think ive got a chance in hell to get one till next september,
ive been offered bedsits but there too small I need a 1 room flat
this bidding system sucks rant over!!!!
Posted by Bonovox
To gain points LIE. I did that when i was with my ex girlfriend in a council flat. I said at home it was very crowded and that one member of our family was sleeping on a mattress on the floor downstairs. Exaggerate your situation.
Posted by Miss UK
Since the persons mother has been made outta work,
I cannot sit in anymore cos shes always there,
I don't have much in conversation with her and i'd rather stay
out till my pal is up
what I could do is exaggerate that abit
thing is I turned down a dump a few weeks back it was a bedsit thing way to small and it has issues with previous occupant (Un-popular) etc
Posted by Bonovox
My cousin lives in Birmingham and he was offered a flat in Erdington area. It was awful. It was exposed right by a park and he made me laugh cos he said the area was like Silent Hill LOL
Posted by Miss UK
lol sounds like a hell hole,
Erdington is generally ok though..
the flat I got offered was in Wordsley opposite a park also
the housng officer even advised me it wasn't good enuff for me
is it true if you turn down a property they deduct points from you :?
I really hope I can get somewhere for xmas im making myself ill stopping out all night I can't tolerate this woman shes a idol cow,
up at dawn watching tv till 1am each night what the hell is all that about?
she's bust up more tv's than anything and has now took the tv I was ment to be having in my flat from my pal

We gave up and decided to rent privately.Paying £425 for a 2 bedroom end tericed in a quiet area.Quite cheap compared to other's in the area which are in worse condition than ours (between £500-£800 pm).We got told by the council that if we have nowhere to live they will only put my daughter and girlfriend in a hostle. If we purposely made ourselves homeless then we wouldn't get anything and told to stop paying bills, sell car, not pay for Rebecca's medical expensies etc to free up money to pay for rent.

@Kerry
Have you tried looking here: http://www.placesforpeople.co.uk/index.aspx
They may not have anything in your area but its another avenue and waiting list to try.
Posted by Miss UK
Andy that sounds shit I never knew that they would actually treat someone like that infact thats disgusting.
I don't blame you actually going for a Private place!!!!
@ Larry, thanks for that i'll have a look
My friend has suggested that I locate some Housing Associations and give them a try..
until ive got 100 points with my council all there gonna offer me is crappy bedsit flats (No thanks)
imagine having to live and sleep in one room
Posted by Miss UK
Well it was worth waiting up cos ive bid on another flat 1 Bedroom converted house place bottom floor lol its over the road from the bedsit I had a look at well atleast its not by that park
