@counterer

It most certainly can mate. If the Media Player in the K800 can, so can 3!

Posted by aldino
why does it say 3rd august as the date?

what does gprs: attached mean ?

also can someone tell me what a 'stylus' is?

thanks

Posted by Darth Sith
Peter can you made a video of walkman player using your fingers (with another song with cover art please LOL).
In w950 play and swicht a song is very slow.
In w960 play is more responsive, but I want to see how swicht a song work.
Thanks.

PeterKay, i do feel like the lens is somehow dirty when you captured most of your shots, less contast and washed photo sometimes caused by dirty lens, so please check this out.
btw, i loved the songs you've played in the videos you've uploaded .

It merely has a photo light.

Thanks..

Posted by PeterKay
Regarding the flash light:

When you select the Flash option, the light does not come on until you press the Camera key at the top, when you click the camera button it flashes on the object, taken some pictures with and wothout flash which will be uploaded soon.

Regarding the Green light at the bottom:

When the phone is being charged, the light stays on. A member said that it goes off when charged but not with my unit. Don't know if this will be changed when released bit i can't see it happening myself.

Green light flashes at the bottom if you have a missed call on your phone or when you have a message unread.

Regarding the Equaliser:

The Equalise has 11 preset options, such as mega bass, loudness, treble boost, normal, rock, party, dance, pop, jazz, classical, pop, spoken word.
A rating option is also available where you can rate your tracks.

More later

1.how is the display compared to other phones e.g. K800.beter or way beter.
2.what is the max resolution, bitr8, framer8 for high quality video playback.
3.is it worth watching movies on.
4.how r the inbuilt games.

Posted by PeterKay
Video playback is 30fps, brilliant quality.

same resolution as the P1i fullscreen.

Screen is better than K800i as its bigger and clearer.

PeterKay, which phone would you prefer, P1i or W960i?

I'm really trying to decide between these two since by the time I'm buying it, these two will be my choices. I played P1i before, but how much is it different with W960i in terms of usage(interface, quickness, quality, sound volume). Thanks for your opinion!

*cough**cough*W960*cough*Duh.

W960i miles ahead, terms of quality, build material, performance, Memory, loudness, overall looks, new keys and speed of device.

P1i is good but lacks the big memory and function.

Can the photo LED light be turned on and used as a flashlight, ala the w850i?.... Or are we going to have to download some third party app (like I had to with my K800, in order to use it like a flashlight?) I love that function, it's very useful....

How do you play games? Someone in an other forum mentioned using the scroll wheel for playing games on the P1i, or are you limited to the numeric keypad (do the Walkman soft keys play into the equation while playing Java games?)? Sounds extremely awkward to me if you have to use the scroll wheel (yet, not as awkward as the K850i's D-pad....)... Are there currently any Symbian UIQ3 games that support stylus input like the Gameboy DS?..... That would be neat and a total boon for Sony....

How do you rate songs?... Is it anything like an ipod's?

I honestly thought that the trim was iodized aluminum or something close to that, from all of the pre-release photos that I've seen.... It's now obviously white plastic (thanks for the great photos that helped clear that up btw!). Is it smoth plastic or a pourous plastic (like the kind that'll hold dirt?)? Do you see it getting very dirty? Hard to clean and keep white? I plan on taking it to the gym with me if I get one, so I'd like it to stay clean and white if it's at all possible. Thanks!

To be honest the phone does not get dirty very easy!!

Had it for over a week and no dirt on the white trim, no dirt on the Camera lens and the screen is still clean.

I have not used any pouch or case throughout my tests.

The Flash light does not stay on, no app for it yet!
It is handy to have i must admit.

The rating of the audio track is just something that you choose yourself in the player, rate it between 1 & 5 stars to your preference.

The mood option is a nice touch by looks very nice and make you want to look at the screen more and more! Brilliant addon to the player.

Posted by borisisinvin
Peter, how do you play moble games on the phone?..... I love mobile phone games! I have a huge collection in QVGA resolution Jave games, and I'm looking forward to taking them over with me into either a 8GB N95 or W960i... However, I'm extremely apprehensive about buying a mobile with out a D-pad. The idea of having to play games on numeric pad sucks....

Posted by borisisinvin
Ooohhh, and does it by chance support Flash lite themes like Sony's newer non-smart phones?.... Thanks!

Posted by PeterKay
not tried any games yet, if u have any games u want me to try, show me the links?

Posted by borisisinvin
I don't really have any links to any games.... Sorry. I was more concerned with how you physically play the games on a phone like the W960i since it lacks a D-pad, is all... I'm pretty sure you have to use the number pad for all gaming input, however that sounds like it'll suck (I'm spoiled after using nothing but Sony non-smart phones that have either had a joystick or D-pad for gaming up until now).

On another totally different note, does the W960i have a smart search function application? I just recently read that the new 8GB N95 will come pre-installed with a smart search for finding things stored on the phone and on the internet (I'm sure similar to the google search bar on a pc or something). Does it even have a smart search function in the phone book folder (like the new K850i)?... What about Flash Lite Themes? Does the phone support them?... Thanks!

It does have an enhanced search as well as TrackID. More is explained on the Esato Product Page

Hi PK. Thx for the review mate, appreciate it.

But I have also a question for you, do you know what comes with the phone? I mean what accessories come with the phone. I know that you'll get a BT stereo Headset but nothing more.

Thx again, *drool*

Maybe possible in a few months after release but not just yet!!
I personally think it looks very nice, have really impressed me with this product, 10/10 from me.

could you take some macro pictures and other's in dark place usuing flash?

Thats my next duty, pictures will be uploaded tomorrow.
Sorry about the delay, been a little busy.

Posted by kaiba
Micro shots would be awesum,
PK did you try to play videos with MPEG4 format and a quality of 400+kbps and 30fps ?
with my w900 i can play videos with 350kbps quality and less, so what about the w960 ?

Posted by PeterKay
A video has been tested at 400kbps and 30fps, works fine, no lagging, no audio fallback, smoother than i thought.

Will try an upload a video of the phone playing that video soon.

Posted by toughkid
of course i want to say thanks for the preview, for the pics and the videos! very professional!

I really appreciated the phone and the work!

Posted by peoples8

If you post your videos on stage6 (stage6.divx.com) it will be better quality (especially the camera recording one).

Thanks.

@ PeterKay

Just wanted to say that I commend you on your efforts and diligence in helping everybody here on the forums and answering everybodys questions about the W960 (even if a lot of them were repeated).

But I was curious about one thing that concerns me with the phone. I'm used to loading up my SE phone with music and videos etc. through a card reader with external media and for the most part is pretty quick.

I was wondering what the transfer speeds were like with the W960. On the SE site, it's claimed that transferring 1GB worth of data could be transferred in under 3 minutes, but is this a drag and drop method, or is it some other program used to load the phone with media (like Disc2Phone or something similar).

And I was just curious if the phone had a stand-by clock screen? Might seem insignificant to others, but I think it's pretty important to have a clock showing without having to push any buttons.

Again, thanks for all of your help. It's greatly appreciated.

Posted by kenx3000
Sorry to ask question again. I saw videos that they said that W960i is more finger friendly, have you tried it using your fingers PK? Is it finger friendly and precise? I mean mostly everyone in here would use the on screen keyboard, so I don't know if it would be precise(I hope it's not as frustrating as the iPhone)

Could you post a video for messaging with W960i? Like typing or using onscreen keyboard. I'm really looking forward into that. Thanks again!

Posted by PeterKay
One of the videos uploaded on the front page show me using fingers and the screen and to be honest its precise as can be! very easy to use, tick boxes and handwriting is easy without using the stylus.

Regarding transfer speed of data, i have not tried USB transfer yet only bluetooth transfer, maximum transfer i have done is a 100mb file without any problems, surely with USB it will be much faster, will confirm this when tested.

More answers later.

Posted by Darth Sith
Transfer rate is the same of w950. It's very very fast with drag and drop and with disc2phone or another program.
It goes in full usb2, 480MBs against 14MBs of P1 or any other device.

Posted by Tipu19
hey that was a marvellous review.....
but still confused which phone is better w960i or p1????
please ur opinions!

Posted by toughkid
i think it could be usefull to watch a video where there are basic functions done with the fingers.

i try to explain:

_block/unblock the screen with bottom-left + other switch
_set the phone in silence mode (bottom-right swtch)
_write an sms
_answer a call
_call a friend (his number is in the rubrica)
_receive a message and reply to it...

maybe they could be considered "silly" or OT...but IMHO i would like to see the w960 behaviour... what do u think?
