will the phone play .aac and .m4a audio? i presume so as previous models do, but it would be nice to have it confirmed.
this phone is like my dream model i think. and i've just realised how much of a geek i am, haha!

Posted by PeterKay
Tested a DIVX file, does not play shows as unsupported!

need to test a normal AVI file.

Audio quality through headphones very loud and clear compared to the w580i and w880i.

Will test more audio files soon.

PMs also replied.

Posted by shyam335
hey Peterkay,
If possible,Try to play videos with resolution higher than CIF .

I dont think it will support avi container by default, might need a third party app like in s60 (core player, smart movie etc).

Posted by PeterKay
Tell you what guys, give me links to videos you want me to test (not too big) and i will test them for you and will answer your queries.

or audio clips if you wish!!

I'm here to help you folks

Here ya go
http://trailers.nerodigital.com/Warner/Vendetta_Stan_ASP.mp4
http://trailers.nerodigital.com/Sony/CasinoRoyale_Port_ASP.mp4
http://trailers.nerodigital.com/Sony/SurfsUp_iPod_AVC.mp4

all ~5mb or lower.

Posted by PeterKay
Thats great stuff, are they not all MP4s?

Posted by Jimster71
Peter, have you got the smokey stylus or the solid black one?

The green light at the bottom shouldn't stay on after charging, that will probably already be fixed in software (mine doesn't do that).

Like the P1 it will flash if you have a message waiting or flash red if you have a low battery.

I filled up the 8GB in about 15 minutes after a trip to my itunes folder.

Sorry for disturbing you PK once again and again but i have one important question :
Is there accelerometer in the prototype you have? if no, any idea of putting accelerometer on w960 in the future?

Posted by shyam335
Yes they are all mp4's
1st is 4CIF resolution
2nd CIF
3rd QVGA h264..

Posted by PeterKay
@Jimster71, i have the solid black plastic stylus and yes after charging the phone 2nd time round the light does go off at the bottom.

Will test these videos after work, evening time folks.

Thanks

I thinks there is no accelerometer in this phone
it will be available only in W910 and K850
Screen Splendor you Know!

Thank you for a great mini-review!

Can you test to play a divx/xvid file with e.g. tcpmp (coreplayer)?
I just wanted to know how smooth w960i is when it comes to playback of these kind of files

tcpmp url:

http://www.a site.com/downloads/freeware/apps/tcpmp.symbian.0.71b_UIQ.zip

(i know it's a beta release and it's not stable, but i think thats the only free version for uiq)

Thank you in advance!

hi peter thanks for your response, i start liking this phone though, and seriously consider swapping with my P1i (though i am still searching for an excuse why i should )

about the body, the front facia, is it really finger print magnet? looks though it's but i need your honest opinion, coz it's very frustrating when it's very fingerprint magnetic

how does it compare to K810i in terms of fingerprint magnet?

thanks

Posted by PeterKay
not as bad as the K810i in relation to finger prints!

The W960i is visible with fingerprints but not too bad, used it for a good few days so far and used my finger many times, screens till looks pretty clean as we speak!

Regarding the xvid files, will test them soon!

currently at work.

There won't be an accelerometer in the W960.

Posted by NightBlade
Aaaaw, come ooon, I thought there was one inside. (accelometer)

Posted by PeterKay
No accelerometer with mine too!

just checked.

Posted by kaiba
But Memzee at MR said :
" ... I pretty sure the prototype I played with briefly did have accelerometer. I remember it more clearly with the K850 and W910 but I'm pretty sure the W960 had it too "

I hope that put accelerometer in the final product

Are you sure? I think it has to be turned on (-->Auto<--, Portrait, Landscape)

the SE rep in a few of the videos on youtube said that there was no accelerometer in this model. just the k850 and the w910. its not that bad, i would rather hsdpa, and the hideous circle around the camera lens to be minimized.

[ This Message was edited by: my ninja on 2007-09-13 19:15 ]

Posted by NightBlade
I like that circle. it's classy.
And I think it has WiFi, but HSDPA? K850 has HSDPA.

the W960 is a work of art, is all I can say after having fiddled around with an early prototype for a while now.

As Peterkay says, it is LOUD! Finish and feel in this early prototype was marvelous!
Haven't had the pleasure of using the earlier SE smartphones.

I can only say: I'm in love!

W580 also has accelerometer, correct?

PK i have a different question for you. would you be able to take a picture of this phone with a T610 (if you have/access) to one. i dont have any "newer" model SE phones to judge the scale, the phone does look a bit wide for my tastes, and luckily here in the USA we dont have stores to peruse coming soon SE phones that arent picked up by a carrier already.

does anyone know if the flash module inside is integrated to the main board or if i can swap it out for a larger flash drive? they have 256gb ssd's but id look for a 1.8" 64gb, if its not integrated does anyone want to sponsor a frankenstein project ... if not ill look into it and see what i can do. the lack of a memory card slot is archaic. like rolling widows in a car down with a handle!

http://www.engadget.com/2007/[....]-1-8-and-2-5-inch-ssd-to-64gb/

(yea i think the w580 does, come to think of it, it has that jogging functionality where it picks the song according to your gait ... i think, i could be wrong, can someone verify?)

Comparison pic w. T630 (same size as T610?!) and T300:

Posted by NightBlade
Wow, it's reallly smaller than I thought...hm...interesting...

Posted by my ninja
excellent! thanks a lot pandemon, i really appreciate that.

i need a new phone my old one is falling apart, and the K850 just looks like a must have, and the W960 is a must have. at least ill have a few months with the K850 before i have to make the real decision.

hi there PK!

the way i look at it, look like you have a good demo unit there.
other video review i saw on youtube has those sluggish unit. doesnt react on screen touches... and having to load apps alot longer than yours.

i just hope that this trend will continue with the way they package a product... from the hardware, housing, apps etc etc.

good job PK! very much like the review. it brings us the touch and feel of the phone itself. now your making everyone of us if not all, a W960i FANS...

cheerio!

@rockygali, i think you're quite right there. The unit i pocess is not like other protos i have had even though the P1i was good, this feels like the real deal which is why i am tempted to keep it even though i have had an offer of 720 Euros! It's fast, efficient, LOUD and very easy to Multitask.
