@miss uk - As PeterKay said It's quite easy to fast, just need the Faith. In my country is the same, first taraweeh was last night, and today is the first day of fast, which I'm really enjoyning, Elhamdulillah!
@aremaboy I agree with you, it's great to see so many muslims here on Esato, I thought there won't be any!
Have a great first iftar, everyone!

Few hours to go and not feeling hungry at all Subhanallah.
Been a great day, only another 29 days to go
Don't forget to pray your little prayer before eating folks.
Posted by amnesia
I'm been starving
I've been used to eating snacks since I came to the UK.

A real fasting means no food, no water, no sexual activities, no gossiping, no offensive words and no ill will. It sounds hard, but as others said, what you need is FAITH to Allah. In addition, you're recommended to donate more to the poor, pray more, and read Al-Qur'an to get much appreciation from Allah. Providing some meal, even just a gulp of water, for a Muslim breaking his fast after sunset is believed to be awarded the equal 'scores' as his fasting' that day. Nice, isn't it? That's why, Ramadhan is truly a blessed month. You'll get double in 'scores' for anything good you do. That's Allah promise.

No mistakes yet bruv, 2 taraweehs done!
1st fast complete with the help of the Almighty, wasn't all that hard thankfully, bring on the next one

this is abit like the Big brother diary room Day 1 the fast was easy Day 2 blah blah lol
Posted by PeterKay
Big brother lol,
Its just good to know how people are doing around the world with the fasting etc.
Posted by batesie
how long does this go on for? 2 people i work with are both fasting, and they have turned into different people, i asked them a work related question which they just argued about and they are being snappy! no need to take it out on me though!
Posted by PeterKay
lol, they don't smoke usually do they?
Some do get snappy, but most just take it easy like myself. If you can't do it then leave it but to take your stress out on others is wrong. With Fasting one should learn self-restraint and inner peace.
Posted by batesie
yeah one of them does smoke but still i will carry on smoking and eating/drinking as i usually do
Posted by PeterKay
Hope you enjoy it
Posted by Miss UK
Snappy due to lack of food and water I bet btw as Petersays above if they can't handle it then they don't have to do it
So Day 2 in the Esato Diary room went ok then all
sorted..
I haven't eaten much myself today neither I shouldn't have gone round my pals earlier as she shoved Chinese food in me face
Sorry all
Posted by rule_breaker
Ah, I do feel a lil hungry/thirsty this time around. That's because of the days being longer but I can't remember myself acting strang because of the fasting.
I usually feel much more relaxed, peaceful and healthy during this Great Month!
Posted by soulframe
Salam all. For me it's not so much the lack of food or water. It's all the other things, like keeping restraint, inner peace, pure thoughts etc.
If your in a high pressure job, there's so much stress and it's easy to lose one's temper quiet quickly.
Hamdullah there are a couple of muslm brothers where I work, we intend to have the iftar together pretty soon.
BTW, is it ok to brush your teeth while fasting?

Brushing your teeth with Miswak is fine but not with paste due to obvious reasons, brush your teeth at Suhur and all should ok Inshaallah.

@PeterKay
Thank you for that nasheed, it was wonderfull, it brought a tear to my eye too. It reminds us how lucky we are to be fully healthy, and we still complain all the time. I always remember this when I see a handicapped, people, or kids, and how they're full of joy and will to live.
I also like this one by Ahmad Bukhatir, called Ya ommie, nasheed about mothers. It is really nice, and the video is also great, MashAllah

Sahar Khan: He is one among them who moves around every nook and corner of his delimited zone in Shehar-e-Khaas (downtown) at 3.30 AM daily in the holy month of Ramadhan by beating the drum vigorously and shouting Waqt-e-Sahar. Ghulam Muhammad (in picture) is a Sahar Khan who awakens people of Safakadal during Ramadhan...

You see I didn't think about that, you're right there are so many sick people out there. I mean that's so horrible, I would really send all of them to jail!
I posted that photo, because it's so nice to see little girl reading Quran, MashAllah!
@tranced
I'm doing great, Elhamdulillah (thanks to Allah almighty), I can really fell Ramadan in the air, it's everywhere, people are different, calmer... I'm just enjoying it, as PeterKay, said who knows if I'm going to see another Ramadan.
@PeterKay
I've listened to Qari Ziyaad Patel from South Africa, and his Qiraat, really is brilliant. His Qiraats are so melodic, but he the words are so clear pronounced. MashAllah.
I have 4 or 5 Qurans in MP3 format, but my favorite is this one, I'm not sure who is he, my friend says that it is Mishari bin Rashid, but I don't know, unfortunately I only have 14 surahs recited by him. Tell me what you think.

Srinagar, Kashmir...
. . . . . . .Beating a drum and shouting Waqt-e-Sahar, Muhammad Ayub of Kupwara district marches through dark alleys in a locality near the Dal Lake here to wake up the Muslims for the Sahr.
Like Ayub, 55, hundreds of men who are popularly known as Sahar Khans belonging mostly from rural areas migrate to Srinagar and other districts during the holy month of Ramadhan to earn their livelihood.
“I’ve been in the profession for eight years. I feel proud that I have never been late. More than earning money, I get a feeling of contentment in undertaking the job. This is my way of serving Islam,” Ayub said, pointing towards sky.
The first thing Ayub says he did on reaching Srinagar before Ramadhan was to meet the troopers of a local CRPF camp. “I told them that I will have to move on the road during night. They checked my credentials and permitted me with some instructions like moving with a torch and coughing near their bunkers,” he said.
He said when he worked as a Sahar Khans in Qamarwari some years ago, he was nearly killed by troops. “I can’t forget that night when troops asked me to raise my hands and threatened to kill me. The troops told me ‘you are a sympathizer of militants and inform them about our presence by shouting and beating drums.’ Timely intervention of their senior officer saved me,” he said.
Ayub said he was only scared of dogs. “When they rush towards me, I hit the drum hard forcing them to flee,” he said with a smile on his dusky face.
Sahar Khawans usually collect cash or kind from the Muslims at the end of Ramadnan. “Some people give us money and rice and clothes. And on Eid, we also receive cash. The money is enough to give us bread and butter for 2-3 months, and for rest of the year were work as labourers. The earning during Ramadan enables us to undertake repairs of our hutments and support education of our children,” Ayub said.
Other Sahar Khans are not however as contented as Ayub. Abdul Ghani, 75, who till few years ago worked as a Sahar Khaan said the job has lost its glory.
“It was our family tradition to work as Sahar Khan. I gave up the job when I felt that people don’t respect us anymore. Our family tradition will die down with me as my only son has joined government service,” he said.
Recounting his childhood memories, noted poet Zarief Ahmad Zarief said besides waking up people, Sahar Khawans used to chant Qur’anic verses, Na’ats, and tell people about the benefits of Ramadhan.
“When I was a child, I remember Sahar Khans used to wear traditional Kashmiri dress and blow a pipe made up of sheep horn. It was called Nallah Hyder and its sound was very strong. Those days the Sahar Khans were in demand during Ramadan as few people had watches and alarm clocks. Now with the arrival of sophisticated clocks, they are battling for survival,” Zarief said...

Well I converted in 2003, in July, so I fasted Ramadan in 2003,2004,2005,2006 and this year 2007 is my fifth.
@rule_breaker
I like Saad Al-ghamdi too, he has a wonderfull voice, in fact I have the whole Quran in MP3 format, recited by him.
Thank you for finding, Mishari, my friend also found him, but we weren't sure it was him, and In never wanted to search, cause I wasn't sure what is his name.
