Does anybody own already a NOKIA 6120 classic?
It's the small candybar type mobile with S60 symbian.

I am really interested in getting it and it seems to be a really good device. at least considering the price we have to pay for it.

If somebody owns one it would be nice to hear about first impressions like what's good or not very..

thanks a lot guys

Its your regular symbian in a small, decent looking form factor and design.

Posted by BobaFett
i played with it a bit, when it came out about 3 weeks ago here. the batt is weak imo and i didnt liked the screen. keypad is ok ( at least for my taste ) , but at the end it looks and feel at usage a bit cheap imo. if u are after a symbian, rather take an e or n series imo.

it's a very fast S60 phone using the new freescale platform with the robust 369MHz ARM11 proccessor (just for comparison SE P1 proccessor is only 208MHz!), but still looks even cheaper than it really is, we had a lot of user experience at Mobile-Review forum, and detailed user reviews, I'll post them here once MR's forum is back online.

thanks. i've tried to access MR as well...

i am not sure now as i cannot recall the tech specs, but do the bluetooth profiles allow PAN (DUN)? would be great.

thanks a lot. user experiences are always worth a lot!

do you also own a 6120?

Posted by Daedalus85
When you say fast, are we talking S40 fast or just fast compared to other S60's?

Posted by fbloise
Im interested to give this mobile to my wife. But i need to know the following:
how is the cam compared to current wifey cellphone: s.e. W810
thanks

Posted by wabre
i would say the camera is better in W810i. It's the same (or maybe better due to improvements in firmware etc.) like in the K750i that i have. the 6120 does not have autofocus and is similar to other nokia cams without autofocus. but video should be much better because it records in QVGA compared to micro-size videos sony ericsson can produce.

if you're into photography i would go for other devices anyway, but if you just want to take some pics to look at them on the phone then 6120 is good enough.

check the links in the posts above from mobile-review. some users have sample pics. if you like those pics, then you know what to expect. for W810i just check some k750i threads with pics.

as much as i understood it's way faster than usual S60 phones and definitely in the speed area of S40 phones if not even better. the only other S60 phone which apparently is also as fast as 6120 is the N76. i've read in some reviews, that there's practically no lag when opening menus and applications. i've tried it yesterday in a nokia shop and it really is very fast. try opening a messaging application and you will see that it opens instantly. i had a nokia 6600 and friends own various N-series phones and it takes way too long to open. i owned a p990i from SE which i immediately sold again. when you opened the messaging application, you could drink an espresso while waiting...

imo the s60 isnt that slow, of course it depends on the fw aswell, but i was very pleased with all e and n series fones

Posted by Alexandra
I reckon it is quite good, but if it has the 6300 cam module, then forget it.

Posted by BobaFett
the 2 mp cams ( even no af ) arent that bad on nokias. i made great pix with n70 once

Yeah, they are better than the K610 pix, but not to the standard of the K750 or W800.

Yeah, they are better than the K610 pix, but not to the standard of the K750 or W800.

Thats because K750 is a camera oriented phone.

Posted by Alexandra
I wouldn't think so..........it is just a W800 w/o flight mode and a walkman player.

Posted by wabre
i have the K750i which really takes great pics. as a phone in general it is not bad at all. it was actually great when i bought it more than 2 years ago. the 6120 i suppose - can't prove it since i don't own it - does not perform that good with the camera, although pics i've seen aren't bad at all. but as said, if you're into photography, then this one is not the first choice.

but for the price you pay, it gives you in a small package a smartphone with the S60 3rd edition symbian like the N95! so i would say this is really GREAT - and it's faster! i really can say that as i tested both in a shop.

having said that...i should already be in a shop buying it..

the only let-down would be the small screen. i've tried to write an sms in the nokia shop and you really need good eyes, although it is possible to change the font size. but then again you won't see a lot as there isn't a lot of space...hm...trivia..

if its not cam oriented, then why was it the first 2mp cam fone with af?

Posted by Alexandra
It was a high-end java phone which did everything well.

Posted by SMS
guys, why are you expecting something revolutionary from a cheap phone such as 6120c? all nokia 2mpx phones are without autofocus except for the N90, 6120c is supposed to combine a good set of features with an affordable price, nothing more.

Wrong really, the W800i was a camera orientated phone that had a larger mem card, walkman and flight mode slapped on it.

The K750i was completely camera orientated, and still is.

Posted by BobaFett
according its size this ais a very good fone, but a kind of 6300 keypad solution would have been better imo...

Posted by Alexandra
The 6300 heypad is phenomenal, my cousin has a 6300.

Downsides: cheap feel, weak back cover, not so good keys (especially soft keys), poor battery, high SAR rate. We aren't asking for much, are we Nokia?

One of the reasons I my K800 is that it has a fairly low Sar rating

Posted by BobaFett
wish in the nest future more and more fones will have s60 os, not only e and n series. s40 is nice, but imo many ppl are ready to pay a bit more and get s60 instead of it

Posted by fbloise
That cell phone is small!! is perfect for my wife!

Posted by BobaFett
but before u buy it, she should tets it, if it really fits her needs and if its comfy at usage

Posted by fbloise
Yes, I believe so.
She's using a W810, and this will be her first S60 phone although she's been "sneaking" into my N73 music edition and like it a lot.

Posted by BobaFett
well, then rather n73 for her imo. 6120 is a nice one, but with n73 she ll have way more fun imo. what other options does she have?

Posted by mob453
Nokia 6120 is 99.99 on wepay in threestores across the united kingdom

I AGREE ! I think that the Nokia E50 is much better than this . . .

Posted by fbloise
Well, yes.
A N73 will be a lot better. in this case, I'll just get one for her. Just that here we have the regular dark plum color that everybody has.

I got my metallic red N73 with Claro (since Claro is like vodaphone, all red)
But she has a contract with orange and orange has the regular plum.

I will finally end giving my N73 to her and buy myself a N81,

No way. 6120 all the way. E50 looks and feels cheap and has a dreadful joy stick.

Posted by BobaFett

Posted by fbloise
Ddi you all saw the N81 specs?
That will be a wonderfull little machine

I own this phone & noticed a major bug that:
If you have saved a contact with more than one numbers say mobile & office number (remember both have different built in icons).During a incoming call alerts the contact icon remains same no matter the caller made this call from his mobile number or his office number. Any body notice this or not ? Any tip to solve this problem ?

Posted by fbloise
No, there is no way to fix that. Hope nokia take note of that until next major firmware change.

Posted by fbloise
this is a nice phone, good build quality

just got it for my wife!!

Posted by mob453
My 6120 has died. Wont turn on wont charge.

Posted by BobaFett
i saw today a blue one, its was just a dummy actually, but looks much better then the white or black one imo

Posted by mob453

Posted by mob453

oooooops, bought brand new?

Posted by mob453
was brand new in December 2007.

worked fine for 2 months then died.

Posted by mob453
and Total Repair can not repair it due to:

"Physical Damage"

walked down to the local Northampton Nokia Service Centre, and they checked for physical damage, could not find it and advised to send the Handset to Anovo in Thetford for a Software Reflash.

Went back to the 3 Store and they rang Total Repair, who said they were unable to reflash the software so it is beyond economical repair.

So the handset is on it's way to Anovo, via Special Delivery, for a software reflash.
