mp3-player, voice dialing

hey folks!

just received the HPM-10 mp3-player. not sure if it is defective:

when holding the button on the microphone to start voice dialing, the phone responds properly by saying: after the tone speak the voice command..., but i don't hear a tone in my headphones. when saying the voice command it still works, but it is quite annoying to guess when you have to speak and not knowing if the command was recognized or not. accepting phone calls works, mp3 player works (i.e. microphone and headphones work).

other than that, only for the record: as already described many times in this forum: connection of mp3-player to phone really sucks. brandnew phone here, brandnew mp3-player, and still the slightest movement in your pocket will disconnect it. lousy design.

thanks

Hi d4px
Welcome to Esato.

Get the jack plug of the headphones an push it into the MP3 player jack socket hard until you hear a definite click.

Normally this improves matters considerably.

Let us know...

thanks for the quick help. but the headphones are not the problem. i had already found that out. when the headphones where not all the way in, the push-to-talk button did not work at all. i think i have the headphones in all the way. it clicked and from what i can see i do not think they are supposed to go in any further. when pressing the push-to-talk button the phone reacts, but i never hear a tone after which i am supposed to speak (without the mp3-player it works just fine).

so do you get to hear a tone over the headphones after you push the button? do you think my unit is defective?

thanks

I've had the same problem about voice dialling. I've always put it down to sloppy programming. Just another bug in the firmware. I'm using R2F, so maybe someone with a more recent version can tell us if they have the same problem?

I have an hpr-11 (fm radio) and I experience the same thing when voicedialling. I don't get the tone feedback on the earphones. The click/beep sound comes from the phone's buzzer (ringer) so it's not routed to the speaker or handsfree.

Yeah.. i have the same problem too - its really inconvienent that you can't hear the tone - i guess you have to memorise how long you should wait until you should say the voice command!

ANd about the connection - theres a thread on putting a piece of cardboard around the connections - it really works.. the connection is 200% stronger than having it on w/out anyting

ok, i give up. i am sending the unit back today. terribly dissapointed. the cardboard-trick is nice and everything but it is still not anywhere close to reliable. i want to use this primarily as a headset with my phone in some pocket and i just can't accept to be disconnected during a phonecall or have to fiddle around with the cardboard-stuff every time the mp3 player comes off the phone.

be careful out there. if you want a mp3 player that will connect to your phone and play music while the phone sits on the table and you don't move it at all it is fine. as soon as you start moving the phone it will drive you nuts to have to be careful all the time and care about the stupid thing not coming off during conversations.

poorest design i ever saw on a piece of equipment like this. almost totally unusable. can't believe they are selling this stuff. i would be ashamed to sell crap like this.
