Sold a phone on Ebay for £300, for which payment has arrived in paypal.
The buyer who lives in new York has 23 feedbacks and wants me to post the phone to his friend who is in indonesia as a birthday present!!
Now, what do i do? post it to Indonesia and new York!!
Money has arrived and withdrawn into my bank.
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

personally id send it only to the buyer in this instance - what he wants to do with it is up to him, surely he should of arranged this BEFORE bidding (to make sure you was fine with it)....
Ive learnt it does you NO favours in helping people you dont know just for the crack.... let him send it to indonessia mate, that way your safer in the fact that you can probve you sent it to the buyer

thanks, thats what i was thinking too.
Has anyone experienced this before?

only send to the buyers address verified in paypal matey. he can still put in a claim and your paypal account could end up in 'minus' if he is dodgy.
if it is a hacked account, at least the american guy will get a phone, and can then return it to you if it goes all wrong....

hacked account! getting me worried now...
I have sent him a message saying i will post to New York only, awaiting a response.

Sounds a bit dodgy to me...
I would suggest only send to the registered PayPal address to cover yourself against any claims that it wasn't sent.
I'm sure its in eBays T&Cs somewhere to only send to the reg'd address.
Can you contact the account holder by phone to check?

Send it to the buyer only mate. And get proof of postage just incase.

will do thanks, just one more question: If this dude is dodgy and he tells paypal that i have not sent the phone and i have a receipt what would happen?
thanx

more likely someone in indonesia has hacked the account, so at least if you send it to the US the real account owner would be able to return the phone.
but again its still a good chance this is all kosha! try and get a phone number for this person and call them... US landline number? just for peace of mind...

Cheers Batesie, will do.
still awaiting a response.
if i get no reply, shall i post it to the US still or wait?

i'd raise it with paypal and ebay that they are asking to send it to another country, and they will also investigate. keep the phone for now if in doubt, if they are genuine, they will understand.

well if the money has cleared into your bank, and something fishy is going on, you can always send the phone to me
btw, what phone was it?
Posted by PeterKay
As the money is in my bank now or transferring into my bank, how would paypal take it back out if that was the case?

theyll just freeze ur paypal account while they investigate it ect, and prob put ur account into a - as well

right, so best thing is to hold on to the phone until the buyer responds!

Only send to a Confirmed Delivery Address. If the address in NY is not confirmed on paypal then do not send. If the is not confirmed then you have absolutely zero protection.
Also be careful how you send it. International recorded delivery only tracks until it leaves the UK. To be properly protected it needs to be sent something like DHL or UPS.

If the buyer purchased using his credit card thru paypal and does a chargeback then paypal will by default remove the money from your paypal account, if its not there they will try the 1st bank account assosiated with it and take the money from there, all without your say so............if i were you i would remove the bank account from paypal

Maybe we've gotten too suspiciuos, due to all those scammers, but imo this looks alot like a slightly different version of "Nigerian" scam.
We've had emails yesterday (immediately deleted them), from people, supposedly living in Spain and London, wanting to buy our Samsung, so they're not always using Nigeria now.
edit: We've posted the same time

Only send to confirmed addresses! I sold a shaver for £165 and sent it to an unconfirmed address in london. The money cleared i withdrew it to my bank account spent it
Ive had the same thing happen again, someone from spain has bought an item with no feedback and an unconfirmed address he wont get in contact with me despite numerous emails, the money has cleared but i will not send it until he confirms his address!
there seems to be alot of credit card scamming going on at the moment on ebay!

@ Adz21, had exactly the same thing happen to me, had account suspended despite me offering to return money only if item was proved faulty, then buyer dropped case, ebay activated my account then asked for charges, replied with an email typed in the biggest font i could fit saying "F@@K off".
by the way, despite paypals warnings of bailiffs from what i can gather it will never happen, usually just scare tactics, never have a bank account attatched to your paypal.
