for the last two mo. i knew that i was going to get the p1. i love the os on my m600i and have never have used a nokia. i dont count my n800. so yesterday i found out nokia is releasing the n95 with u.s hsdpa,128mb.ram,1500mha. i would love to be able to use fring everywhere,but dont know what to expect with the lack of touch and s60.the slider. then i start thinking of hsdpa,tv out,wlan b,g,5mpx. etc,etc. mabie i can get some thoughts from people with both.

128MB RAM and 1500mah battery? Is this real? I have my doubts.
Posted by jack77777
You'll prefer your m600i to the n95.. trust me.

@jortiz1200
It really depends on what they most important things you want to do with your device are. But if the specs mentioned for the US version of the N95 are true you can't really compare the performance differences you will get from the N95 with all those features. Even if you need to enter large amounts of data with the purchase of the SU-8W keyboard this is easily achieved. Check out Howard Forums which is a mainly North American forum and see what others are saying. But only you can really decide which device will suit your needs better unless high speed Data is important to you in which case their just is no choice to make.

the n95 for the US looks to be true... nokia is shafting it's customers again... first the n93 and n93i after a few months and now the n95 and n95i (or whatever the call it)... honestly it's silly... they could have stuck the same bl-6f battery in the first n95, removed the lens protector and upgraded the ram instead of releasing two versions 6 months apart..
n80 to n95 i can understand
but n95 to n95i is a cash grab

@DragonEye
The N93 to N93i was not that quick and involved a heavily redesigned phone one that i actually was not interested in changing to as i much preferred both the look and feel of the original N93.
As for the new N95 the original was never meant to be destined for the US only the growing US S60 user base made Nokia release that there was a need for a US variant. I would actually think most North Americans are quite pleased that Nokia are now starting to make devices for their market as am pretty sure this is just the start of bigger things to come.
Also it is not like the N95 has only been out a few weeks it has been out for a while now and at least Nokia seem eager to improve weaknesses when they see them and improve the specs accordingly. IMO it would of made less sense to have released a US N95 with out addressing the issues their customers have reported.
But i suppose you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Hi Boba
If you check out Symbian Guru's Blog he has all the info as a far as i am aware he broke the story if not it is well covered on Howard Forums. As i have said obviously Nokia learn from their customers feedback at that is why although it will be slightly lager the battery issues are being addressed now.

if one thing is certian the s60 user base isn't growing at all north america at least not through the general population.. phone junkies maybe...reason the carriers don't pick up s60 and don't consider s60 to be a smartphones....
yes i agree it's nice that they fixed the weaknesses but these weaknesses should have never been there in the first place... nokia didn't know the battery was underpowered and that ram was insufficient for such a feature rich device???
north america might not care and they'll love the n95b.... but n95 users have a right to be bitter imo.... if they were going to release a b version the should have at least given it quad gsm and tri 3g.. like the k850i.... but that would probably be more of a cash grab in the eyes of current n95 users

@Dogmann- this is where I have to disagree with you. We should lose this mentality that nokia can do no wrong. This is bad any how you look at it. I bet this phone will be released worldwide after its US launch. What will be of those who bought the n95 six months after launch?
Posted by ttsng
I think u should pick N95. N95 EDGE has speed about 100+ kbps. P1i only has GPRS which is about 36 kbps. Besides, N95 has more features and more application (both free and 3rd party softwares).
Posted by Dogmann
Hi all,
Whoa where have i ever said or even implied that Nokia or any manufacturer do no wrong that really is stretching things a bit far i think.
I own no Nokia shares don't get test units or freebies so really have nothing to gain from praising Nokia. I was only saying why i thought this had happened that was all. yes a larger battery and more RAM would of been great on my N95, although not so sure i would of wanted it to get bigger as a result. The extra Ram will of course also be great but to be honest unless i had a SU-8W i would never dream of entering large amounts of text with it's keyboard. It is after all a N series which IMO means it is focused on being a Multimedia smart phone not a business smart phone.
This is actually the one annoyance i do have with Nokia as they insist on slight differences between E and N series devices even if they have the same hardware. For instance my E90 the Music player is not quite as nice as the N series, the volume from the E90's speakers is not as loud as through the N95's which is really not a deal breaker for me. Also the volume through the headset is also not as loud and requires a higher volume setting for the same result. But it is still of great quality and more than loud enough for me.
Video playback is a different situation obviously due to the larger internal screen it is better on the E90 but the cost for this is larger files which i can live with especially as cards are hot swappable and larger cards are due very soon.
Please can we get over this incorrect assumption that i live and breath Nokia and think they can do no wrong as this is just quite simply not true. What is true is that for now Nokia and S60 are what i currently choose to use as they suit my needs best. If and when something else comes along that i feel is better i will switch without hesitation but until then i will stick with my current choice and IMO that is how it should be sticking to just one manufacturer just for loyalty makes no sense to me and doesn't do the user any favours either IMO.
@Dargon Eye
I had got the impression it was indeed growing due to the opening of Nokia Flagship stores and the fact that these stores were stocking recently released handsets with full Nokia warranty and X1387 and Plemix who i believe are if not the same but connected appear to sell a lot of devices into the US and Canada. Maybe it is just the select tech junkies but it does appear to me there are more of them now. But as you are from there i will bow to your superior local knowledge.

fyi.. the n95b version will be the same size.. by removing the lens protector they have managed to squeeze room in for the bl6f... one of my carrier friends saw it.... he also said the slide has been improved and it's really solid now... his was demo.. so take it for what its' worth... but the thickness hasn't changed....

gets rid of the 2100band hsdpa though!
if i bought this n95 (a/b whatever its called)
what would it run on here? standard gsm network?
Posted by BobaFett
yeah, normal stoneaged net... really crap, that us system gets 1200 mah batt, and we have to suffer with that 950 mah batt in europe, where the network ( and its services ) are far forward the us one...
Posted by Dogmann
@>500
That's why it isn't a good idea it would be like the problems that the US faced with the Euro version not able to run at full steam.. But i wonder if we will be able to use the larger battery? I must say don't like the idea of no lens cover though that seems a little silly to me.
@Boba,
I must say i really have had no battery or for that matter out of memory issues either. So whilst the extras are nice i am still more than happy with my N95 especially it's Music playing abilities as mentioned elsewhere.

Maybe if you could be bothered to read what has been said you would be able to make a more sensible statement instead of just being a Fan Boy and having no regard to what a user actually wants or needs besides a badge.
As this N95 version gives the user 128 Ram same as the P1 a 1200aMh battery larger than the P1, and will work on all the US networks including their 3G services. Which means if the user wants or needs fast Data the P1 fails where the N95 succeeds. If on the other hand he just wants a PDA phone that looks good either will suffice depending on which look he prefers but at least he has options to consider.
We all know what a P1 looks like and the P1 only has a 208mhz processor and 3.2mega pixel Camera no VGA video recording and despite the white paper no built in VOIP or H.264 support either all these makes the N95 a much more powerful and up to date device sorry to burst your little bubble with a reality check.

@Dogman I have not bothered to read the whole tread. I've only read your last post thou and can't believe you compare the P1 with the N95. Not even hardened SE fanboys do that. Am I missing a point (or 2) or what? If one were to take the best points from the K,W,P series + some other letter which has GPS and another letter with gprs/edge/3g/hsdpa/wifi-g , then I would say we have a contest (N95 will still have better video rec + tv out + tones of software and the KWPxyz will have touch screen). You better help me decide between e90 or n95. Will all the software I have gathered so far work on the e90? I know it will be just fine on the n95

@mario2004
I wasn't comparing them directly other than that was the question asked by the original poster and despite what some would like to think i do believe in freedom of choice. Just because a device suits my needs doesn't mean it will be right for everyone we all have our own particular wants and needs i was only showing the differences to allow the original poster to see what his options are.
@plankgatan
Just get a life no one said you couldn't proclaim how brilliant you believe the P1 to be but was a huge picture really so necessary some visit ESATO on Mobile devices and if the want to see a picture they can got to he P1 thread a little consideration for your fellow users would be really nice. You are just so over the top with your SE devolution a little balance would also be a good thing, don't you think?

meh... the p1i is a better device then the n95 for me and i know a few n95 users that have been converted as well... main reasons: ram and battery life.... the most features don't always dictate which device is best for a person....
the us version of the n95 is a respectable device if they really did boost the ram and battery though..
battery i'm 100% sure.. the ram part is still people guessing...

@Dragon Eye,
Well that all really depends on what you want to do with your device as the N95 being an N series is a Multimedia smart phone not a business smart phone and on those features it kills the P1 stone dead.
It has a much better Camera, Video recording and playback is also far superior, a better screen, a much better Music Player with a 3.5mm jack, plus TV out. Better Web browser and is able to use HSDPA for far greater speed.
The only area that the P1 is superior is data entry, Ram and as you say battery.
But then i wouldn't try entering lots of Data without the aid of a bluetooth keyboard on a N95 but it's E-Mail, Calendar and even Document viewers all are also excellent.
Really it all depends on what you want or need your device to do, but if you want a Nokia business smart phone you need an E series device not a N series. Of course it also depends if you want need or like a Touchscreen device or not.
Which is why i use a E61 for Data intensive tasks and have no Ram issues and possibly the best battery life found in any smart phone and a N95 for Multimedia and again have no Ram or battery issues.
As IMO thee is still no ultimate convergence device that does it all in one package, well not yet anyway hopefully one day there will be.
Marc

see Marc those are based on you comparing the products strictly based on specs..in real life experiences i find things to be very different...
as for the e series...
i actually prefer the p1i keypad over the e61 i had (i like the feedback better and can actually type faster on the p1.my hands also aren't as tired after a day of texting...... i can type plenty of emails, work on excel and word quite easily with the touchscreen and keyboard mix....
in terms of the n series
the camera is better on the n95 overall in terms of quality.. but it's not substantial enough to me...i much prefer the Camera UI in the SE... it remembers settings and the quick keys make it more efficient for usage and for me that's more important then slightly better picture quality...
as for video quality i'm using the same framerate, bitrate and encoding techniques and files worked with ease on the n95 and p1i i had.... the p1i actually fast forwards and changes media faster.... yes the n95 supports h.264 and from what i've heard the p1i doesn't but i haven't tested either...
in terms of the music player... i also like the uiq filter (doesn't pick up any ringtones.) the sound quality through a2dp is better and has less static interference on my walk to work. having a 3.5 jack is useful but i like the ds-200 as it can used as a bluetooth headset as well....
so you see Marc every device can go both ways.. purely looking at specs you can say the n95 is better but in terms of actually usage i personally find my p1i much more satisfying to use..
you've always mentioned ram has never been an issue with you and that's honestly quite amazing... every s60 phone except the n76 i've had has given me ram issues... i guess i was spoiled from my computer and p910 ways were apps never actually have to close and can just run on the ram forever..
i'm sure we can go on forever after all it's just opinions...

@DragonEye,
But then i have never claimed there is a perfect device for every one only what suits each user best.
As for no Ram issues that's easy i only use the N95 for Multimedia, my Calendar is synced no entries made on the N95 same for E-Mail although it is more than capable to write some, the Web browser i don't need to enter any addressees as all my Bookmarks are synced from my computer and of course when out and about i can make use of HSDPA for much faster browsing and downloading.
As for the Camera well with the V12 Firmware this has improved greatly and unlike what you say many on this forum are far from happy with the picture qaulity is what is being said including a nasty tint on one side of pictures. Back to waiting for yet another infamous SE firmware to fix it.
I haven't seen the P1's video playback yet but the 16m colour screen on the N95 really is stunning and bright and clear in a variety conditions and it is acknowledged that part of the price you pay for a Touchscreen is a loss of qaulity even if it is an improved and trans reflective screen.
As for the Music player well it's simply stunning and the best sound i have heard on any smart phone which is not just MO either, i don't use Bluetooth for this as i consider it an inferior solution. Also i don't suffer from my ring tones showing up either just place then in the My Video's folder along with anything else i don't wish to show up in the Gallery and they are all hidden yet easily accessible and very easy to do. I have yet to hear Music playback on the P1 but it really will of needed to improve drastically over the M600 which was far from impressive and not even close to the N95's performance IMHO.
As for the Ram situation again i am using two devices so my E61 never runs into problems either plus it doesn't suffer from the issues carried over from the P990 again as reported an complained about in this forum. Also i love my proper qwerty on the E61 much prefer it to the M600 which i had but then you don't and that again is fine by me as is down to personal preferences.
What i can agree on is i also loved my P910 right up till it stopped syncing with Outlook at which point it became useless to me.
Yes i doubt we will ever agree on which device is best for both of us and that's actually fine by me i really don't have a problem with you choosing what suits you best and works for you as i do for me obviously we have different criteria when choosing a device.
Despite what some like to think i really am for freedom of choice just can't stand people slating a device just because it has the wrong badge or making things up that are faults is all. I have never suggested any where on this Forum that some one should buy device A over B and certainly never just based on the manufacturer, i will always point out the difference in specs as that IMO helps to make a balanced judgement and is a far more valid way of selecting a device then just brand loyalty especially if that loyalty tends to be abused. At the end of the day everyone chooses what suits them best as it should be. Some on this Forum IMO really need to start to understand this and lose the fanatical belief it has be SE or it's rubbish mentality it really would make the Forum a much nicer place. We should all be able to debate and then at the end of it agree to disagree if necessary.
Marc

i understand your uses.. but how do those things impact ram? putting an address in your browser is not going to cause a memory overload.. it's the act of multitasking where memory issues occur...nothing is more frustrating for me then to have a random app disappear...

meh.. you keep saying se and their firmware fixes... nokia has has just as many firmware updates for their phones.. and things aren't always fixed by them either... bluetinted n73 pics ring a bell? you're in a SE forum, obviously SE users will report their issues.. hop over to any other forum and you'll see that nokia s60 forums just like the SE forums is always talking about improvements, updates, bugs because like you said no phone is perfect...
you said it yourself v12 firmware drastically improved the n95 camera firmware....
It's odd that the "my videos" folder seems like the only folder that is hidden from the nokia search and locate and annoy system.. till this day i don't understand the logic lol..

@Dragoneye To argue that the P1's picture or video quality is anywhere near the N95's is utter rubbish and you know it. If not please stop fooling/confusing yourself. (Actualy that's OK with me but some SE fan make take you for serious and make a fool of himself too).

imo, the p1i picture quality is not as good as the k810, so i guess it should be less respectable than n95.
the us version on n95 seems to be very much in race for a great device, but having said that, my biggest problem lay on the material used for n95. doesnt anyone think that it's way too plasticky? well below the standard of where the price stands. i found mine has a thin hair gap on the screen side parts, and the chrome plated button suffer from peeling off
but then again, it's just my case

the p1i is an improvement to the rest of the SE's but sadly nothing more... well it is better then moto recording lol....

ask Marc how great the e90 is... doesn't seem like it could replace his e61...

@DragonEye
Actually funny you should mention that as i have just posted my N95 to it's new owner i had to use my E61 for Music whilst walking Otis and it was brilliant maybe not quite as good as the N95 but not far off. Now seeing as that is using the same Music and a Nokia AD-46 Adapter there is no way the E90 couldn't be at least as good it's just not possible. So i have worked out it was the stupid 2.3-25m adapter that was causing the problem with a new adapter from Nokia or bluetooth it won't be a problem.
At this time the temptation to take it back out the box and start using it is huge and if it doesn't go soon i am in danger of breaking my cold turkey from Mobile devices. But then what a device to see me through a year or so.
Marc
