Hi all,

Some really good shots here will have to try and take some over the weekend but from the looks of it it does seem the reports that this non branded camera is indeed very good are well founded. I am impressed and looking forward to seeing what i can get up to. Any one shot any Video yet?

@baby - Nice pic ! Maybe you have some MORE to share

Posted by sapporobaby
@Bondizi,

I will try to add some more here. Also, I posted a few in the "Photo's" section. Wish I were back in the Mid East. Love it there.

@Jojo, I will be heading out today. I will take a few. Actually I was going to try and experiment. I would take some with my E90 and some with my Nikon D80 (I will use .jpg to make things fair) and see if there is a major difference.

@bondizi,

Looks like you were behind Shaikh Zayed Road? Looks like the car parks on the right hand side belonging to the hotels lining the road, at least if you're close the beginning of the road at the World Trade Center.

The railway station in Helsinki . . . if I was there now then I would pop in and buy a lihapirakka from one of the kiosks. (Lihapirakka is the Finnish version of a deep-fried non-spicy meat samosa for you Middle East / South East Asia folks.) Next time my dad comes to visit us here in Muscat, I'll ask him to bring a few, if he can confirm that it is Halal

Salaams Abu Basim,

I am Abu Dawoud. I am trying like crazy to get the State Department to send me back to the ME. I miss it.

I will email you a few Lihapirakka.

@sapporo: thanks

@abubasim: not even close that pic is Kuwait St, which crosses the intersection at the Spinney's near Burjuman Centre. Any of this familiar?

Not really. I used to live in Sharjah, the neighboring emirate but was relocated to Muscat, Oman eight years ago. I visited Dubai last week for education. Stayed in the Number One Tower Suites on Shaikh Zayed Rd. The view from my room was very similar to the one in your photo.

That means my room faced the back and I didn't have to see this:

(Apologies for clogging up this thread with a non-E90 photo.)

Are these the E90 or the D80

@sapporo: first 2 are d80, last 2 e90?

Posted by sapporobaby
@Bondizi,

Yup. How did you know? Did you read the meta data or see from the slight blue tint of the second pair?

Posted by bondizi
A mother knows her baby even by its poop.

HEH just kidding...

Yah, the slight blue tint and slightly more vivid colours in the D80.

So I tried something interesting with Picasa... I made your E90 picture look like your D80 pic Check it out:

Obviously its not very high grade quality since the original's been down-sampled twice already, but you get the gist of being able to play around with hues, tones and colours to get some nice results. It's clear the E90 is fitted with a seriously high grade camera for a camera phone

LoL Dicky those pictures look gr8 !!!

Posted by BobaFett
great pix, like k800 quality ( what is imo the most advanced atm )

Posted by bondizi
excellent shots again, Dicky!
the detail in the water ripples and cobbled streets is very pleasing to the eye.

A couple more shots of Dubai....

1. The Emirates Towers - I liked the colour and detail captured even in the distant buildings on the right side:

2. Very cool wall size advert for the E90 at Dubai Airport:

what about some videos?
i know they might be a bit bigger size-wise but would be nice to see a sample

A great camera..............especially compared to the rest of the E series

Here are some basic videos to demonstrate different filming conditions, shot around Dubai:

1. Good indoor lighting - panning over large distance

http://blip.tv/file/352252

2. Lateral motion - good outdoor lighting

http://blip.tv/file/352249

3. Water fountain, indoors (poor lighting conditions)

http://blip.tv/file/352248

4. The setting sun, Outdoors, poor lighting conditions

http://blip.tv/file/352243

5. Random shot outdoors, good lighting conditions

You will not be gaining any E90 fans by posting video samples on a flashbased site like blip or youtube, as these sites degrade the quality of both audio (reduced sample rate and higher compression) and video (lower frame rate, higher compression and reduced frame size).

Somewhere where these samples are available in the original format, straight out from the camera?

My-Symbian.com's E90 review contain a few raw samples that show off the video capabilities nicely, although the three samples provided for some odd reason "only" have a frame rate of 24 Hz, lower than the phone is capable of.

Salaams AbuBasim,

I usually post my stuff to Vox I think. I might finally get around to using my dot Mac account and set up a site where people (selected members here) can post their stuff.

Posted by bondizi
@abubasim: two things.....

1. the quality of blip.tv is FAR superior to youtube.

2. if you look below the video on the page, you'll see the option of streaming flash video or the original source video.

now then....that said, ENJOY these FINE FINE videos

ANother excellent quality pair of shots, Sir Dicky!

And the sound in the video is GREAT. I thought you'd tracked in some audio until I realized it was playing at the stadium

Here's a video test I did at 40mph:

Some shots around the Harvard Medical School campus...

Some pics of last night's baseball game at Fenway Park here in Boston. Not very exciting content, but I thought they came out well given awful extremes of lighting - the darkness of the covered stand and the incredibly bright floodlights:
