No, it won't...but it is likley it will sell extremely well and be very profitable for Nokia. There is an enormous market, escpecially in developing coutnries for basic, reliable, cheap phones. You must view the phone in the contect of the market place, not as a poor relation of the latest gadget.

It wouldn't be too bad as my back up back up phone...

Of course I got the sarcasm.
However, intended or not, the impression given was a sneer at this phone and the insinuation that it was not a world beater.

I agree with Wuz...wat was so special about the 1100? but it sold like hot cakes...i bet it will have more sales than the n95 thecoolsha....
it is a simple device, backup phone for people like u and me,
But all i wanna say is....its SH*TE

i have the 1100 and i use it as my spare phone for my pay as you go sim, and have to say the battery life is great and its a stable phone, but my main phone is my trusty and great N73

My P990 doesn't even have a torch function so the 1200 whoops its ass in that respect.

Is it me or do these low end handset feel more unbreakable

its just u kokoko

Not a fan of low-end phones but have to agree that these new Nokia's will sell like hot cakes in developing countries.
Posted by $herry
Precisely, it has modern styling and is likely to appeal to ppl in the developing countries..and the flashlight, though not all that useful for us users of camera flashes as torches, will still hold a certain charm for the not so lucky ppl...

That's because there's sod all on them TOO break
Who on earth buys bottom end Nokias anyway?.
Posted by $herry
People do...

Well yeah, but kindly explain to me why. My 84 year old dad would turn his nose up at anything with a mono screen, it's 2007 for gods sake.

My dear man, not everyone is that well off...i have seen labourers in my country...their options? 1100,1110i,1200...stuff like that ...they will...and there are a lot more poor people in the world than there are rich

Dont old discontinued handsets get discounted in your country?, i would much prefer a recently defunkt old model than a new Nokia 1200.
Posted by $herry
apart from the 1100, none of them have been discontinued here...have they all been discontinued abroad?
Posted by MWEB
Yeah, prices start high over here, but as soon as a model is replaced it's price drops by around 50%, and we have a huge, subsidised PAYG market with handsets roughly at half the normal sim-free price.
Posted by $herry
well the 1200 is as cheap as the previous models and hardly introduces anything new...so i guess there wont be any price drops here...its basically the same stupid thing with a new cover and casing..when will they stop ripping off the poor?

thats one reason why SE's low end sucks and doesnt sell, they put third class colored screens to save cost and quite frankly its a pain in the a** too see those screens. I'd prefer a mono screen over a pathetic colored 128x128 one anyday of the week.

Me too!
The j120i was a disaster when compared to the 1200..honest!

Bought my mom an 1100 a yr ago. I wanna know:
- will the 1200 casing fit to the 1100.
- can i upgrade the 1100 firmware to 1200.
- does 1200 have flash support. To help me find keys in the dark.
Thanks a lot
