do you know that a 24bit color screen needs much more power than a 262k one to light up even not taking into account the VGA resolution.
i think that the P3i will have a 2.8" VGA 262k color screen. you won't notice the color depth in that resolution. actually there is no visual difference between a 24bit and 18bit color on a 2.8" VGA screen. and the 18bit one is less power consuming.

the P990i screen is 2.8" QVGA it means that the dpi of the screen is about 114.3dpi and a VGA at the same size would be 228.6dpi not 760dpi!!
and about the camera: i think it will be 5MP AF with flash but not xenon or 3+ LEDs.
and VGA@15fps with QVGA@30fps will be more likely on P3i
i dont like to fill up my 4GB mem only with only 3 hours of video recording.
who hates VGA@30fs but it is unlikely to be on P3i (maybe on the next cybershot flagship)
and it must have Wi-Fi b/g must be quad band along with HSDPA.
Ram? should be the same size as the P1i
it shuold have daul mem support.
GPS and 3.5mm jack are good ideas.

What a REAL p990 successor must have (don't forget..we are talking about q1,q2 of 2008) :
-At least the same camera as p1 with qvga - 30fps video rec
-The same internal memory as p1.
-VGA hand-touch screen AT LEAST 3 inches (iphone has 3,5 and nokia e90 4) the number of the colors is not a problem...(i prefer 256000 for energy economy)

to support the screen and GPS (if there is to be) effectively.
forgot to metion the processor should be 333+ MHz
so it can handle for example normal WMV files while having some programs running in the background.
the 5-way jog dial is a good addition (return),
and i hope it will be smaller than the P990.

I'm one of those people who doesn't mind a smaller (2.6 inch) screen, as it would have the benefit of making the entire device smaller as a result.
Though all the rumors I've read have placed the screen at 2.8 inches.
I don't know what to think about the current spy shots. At this stage, it could be real, it may not be. It has design elements from other models, which both adds and subtracts from credibility (common design elements make sense, yet it could also easily be a PhotoShop).

IMHO both spypics are fakes. The P3i will have a touchscreen (2.8")
The first one is a bad mixture of K850i and W910i.
Or can anyone explain why a touchscreen device needs sensor buttons???
The second one is simply a K770i and nothing more;)

It's more likey to be a non-touchscreen UIQ device.
This could be a reasonable explanation for the sensor buttons.
SE already mentioned that they want to incorporate the sensor buttons
in further products.

I know that, not that stupid. E90 has WVGA 16 million colors 4.0 inch screen and lasts for reasonable period of time when you use it. Power wouldn't be much of a problem.

and just a side note:
and do you know that the best human eyes can filter only 100k colors from eachother, but the reason behind of you don't see a solarized view from your eyes is because of the superb resolution of the eye. (about +60MP; i know that the eye is analog. it's just an estimation).
the 18bit color is clearly visible on a QVGA one but on a VGA, it has not such a bad effect.

It couldn't be VGA screen, sicne i understand from the photo,its screen lilke 16:9 aspect ratio not 4:3, VGA (640*480) is 4:3. QVGA (320*240)is now most adopted. Plus, VGA screen will be very sharp to look at, if the screen is not big enough.

The slow-motion thing is really nice feature.Comparing it to what K850 can do, it is way better and more innovative as well. No other phone is capable of doing that. Not even digital cameras.
I don't think it would hurt SE's pocket if they add that too. It's just some kind of tweaks.

I got some new info's about P3i. According to my source, P3i has quite similar casing as HTC touch and is a really compact slider. Scroll wheel is replaced by d-pad that double as navigation wheel.
He also mentioned something about the interface. He said the interface is almost as good as I-phone's.
His overall impression about P3i is that, it is a pretty decent device for its class but for someone who's looking for more could choose Nokia's (if they prefer S60) or Motorola's (UIQ) solutions.

I don't know what the hell that thing above is meant to be, it might be the P3i but frankly, since there's virtually nothing to look at, who cares.
For me, it's still obvious that the phone shown here is the real P3i - http://www.a site/rumours/sony-ericsson-p3i-concept/ (replace "a.site" in that link with s e f a n a t i c s.com, apparently I'm not allowed to link there)- I know people are claiming it's a "concept" (SE Fanatics even credit it to somebody here) but that just doesn't look like a concept to me. That looks like a very real mockup. It also combines the large screen and flip with the P1-style keyboard, without looking like another calculator - in fact it manages to have a whole new style of its own, and hasn't just been photoshopped out of existing designs. That's what makes it convincing in my eyes.
As for the above, well the menu looks UIQ-like, but the dial beneath (or to the right) of the screen looks like a Moto. Could this just be another RIZR variant?

if you look at my earlier posts on the 2007 huge portfolio.
i brought this reason to prove that the photo that you are using as your source! is fake.
of course that the screen on that concept has a 16:9 aspect ratio but if the screen wanna be VGA (as it is mentioned by more people around and it is a more standard aspect ratio) it should have a 3:4 aspect ratio.
and experience shows that always leaked specs are more reliable than concept pics.
and i think that i have seen a QVGA screen. and beacause i am a digital electronics eng. i think i now a little about screen resolusions and their aspect ratios. so seeing a QVGA sample ..... m.....mmm.. won't help much.
but thank you for noticing that. as i saw no people here that comment about this point.

For my money, the hardware pictures are real. They are the P3, or at least the nearest there is to a working prototype. The screenshots, on the other hand, could be absolutely anything - most likely from another phone entirely. The round joypad/dial thing visible (but poorly hacked out of your version above) looks more like Motorola than SE, and certainly not like anything I'd expect to see on a P series.

Am I missing something here....why not a P2i ? And how about losing the i as it really isn't necessary!
After having P800>900>910i>990i - I decided not to get the P1i simply because the P990i was so bad.
I went for a K850i with its horrible little buttons and absolutely terrible hardware buttons. It was back in the box within 10 minutes and my P1i has now arrived. I am very pleased with it however the automatic keylock comes on during TOMTOM use which is quite annoying. My other gripe is the metal strap blob thing on ths side, what is that all about? I also think the P1i is the cheapest built P series.
My only hope from a P2/3 or whatever it is called is that it is stable, faster than the P1i and has a built in GPS that actually works with TOMTOM, unlike the Nokia GPS units that don't.
