Hi all,
Nokia has released in Q2 financial results today. The overall results are positive with increased second quarter earnings driven by strong sales and an increase in market share. Notable numbers for S60 devices include sales of 2 million Eseries devices and 9 million Nseries devices in the second quarter. Individual device highlights includes sales of 1 million E65's and 1.5 million N95's in the same period
Just came across this very interesting bit of news especially just how many N95's have been sold especially considering just how long this device has been available.
Edited to remove SE sales as meds confused the figures for me.
Marc

@Dragon eye
Well it also said that Nokia's market share is now 38% and the point i was making is what some are trying to say is a terrible device will most probably sell more by year end which is quite impressive however you look at it. 1.5 million N95's in such a short period has to be considered great sales by any one's standards.
Also Dragon was it really necessary to quote my whole post with only one post between it for your one line answer, please consider those viewing ESATO via their mobile devices for whom this is a pain.
Marc
Edited to remove reference to SE sales as above

i didn't know so many people hated the n95. I thought it was generally accepted as a great device... minus ram and battery....
also i'm sure you'd agree that right now SE and nokia are on different marketing paths... s60 is the cashcow for nokia... uiq.. is at an all-time low in terms of reputation that SE needs to try and build back up...
however SE's midrange is performing exceptionally well..and as a whole se's marketshare is growing steadily and they're looking healthy
also forums hating on the n95 is a very small fraction of the true user base for most cellphones... the masses that are using the n95 don't even have an app installed...lol
quote was removed.. but it should be a breeze to view on the n95 wink wink

i'll be curious to see if the market accepts the p1i... i just got one posted my user review and i love it to death... best phone i've used in a long time..

@ Dragon Eye
I spotted your review nice one, it does seem that the P1 is not without problems though according to the bugs thread and MO is well known on this device and SE in general. But i think the lack of Networks picking it up is not a good thing only time will really tell though.

How can you say this??

@Dogmann
I don't think anyone would say the N95 is a terrible device, its not perfect but then again what phone is, but good on them for making the N95, its sold really well considering its a high end device.

N95 is horrible, on paper it looks ok but in real life its a waste of money.
Cam isn't the best, gps just sucks, also gps without a touchscreen=stupid.
the first gps/phone dates back to 2001 and also didn't have a touchscreen, thats why it failed.
nokia its marketshare is mainly due to low end phones and the brands name.
sure the N and E series are getting alot of attention from people, but most don't use any of the special features.
appart from running on symbian, SE mid/high end phones are better.
anyway before the end of the year, nobody here is going to buy the N95, SE is going to push mobile computing (finally) and it will be amazing.
a good thing for nokia is that the averedge selling price per unit is up, mainly dude to overpriced high end and fashion phones.

Congrats Nokia ! I hope that flying_finn can see this one . . .

@Bart
Well that's exactly what i would love to see from SE but so far their spec in their flagships devices you would have to agree is some what lagging.
As for GPS i really am not a supporter of built in GPS on any device and much prefer a separate GPS receiver and to run Tom Tom on my device. As to how can you have Sat Nav without a touchscreen i really do understand none of my devices have had a touchscreen for over a Year now and all been great with Tom Tom. In fact he E61 is actually the best of them all as has a great screen highly visible in daylight and a really loud speaker for directions i am more than happy and can't see what possible reason i need a touchscreen.

meh those bugs are little nitpicky things.. you can find things like that in everyphone... doesn't the iphone have a list of over 80 bugs...
i can make a list of tons of things that would call a "bug" in the n95..

@ajeetpv
I have now removed those references and corrected that i got that completely wrong my meds really messed with my head on the figures. Apologies for my mistake it was big one.
@Dragon Eye
No one has said the N95 is perfect in fact i would go as far as to say no device is perfect. But are you trying to tell me over 9 pages and over 130 posts in such short time and many of the bugs being the same as are present in the P990 is a good sign and that the extra 64mb of Ram and SE have resolved UIQ3' s issues because to me it doesn't look like it. Surprisingly enough i do not appear to be alone of this opinion and many are the SE faithful that are now not just having doubts but are voicing them.
SE really needed to get this one right on release the lack of Networks running this device is no coincidence either as well as the massive price drops we have seen. For a premium flagship product with a better spec then anything previously realeased and were told would launch at the same price as the P990 it has got a lot cheaper very fast.

Getting off topic... So i won't say much more. Go through that thread and look at the bugs people are reporting they're not really bugs imo..
the one major bug that is inconsistent amongst users is the wifi reseting the phone... other then that there's really nothing else... except for people not liking the way something is setup/designed

@Dragon Eye
Some of them may not be but others are exactly the same as on the P990 what are you talking about. But don't let a little thing like facts get in the way just keep wearing those rose tinted glasses and of course SE will do no wrong as always.

it is empressive that n95 has been sold 1.5 million already
Posted by EMS06
Impressive results indeed! Not that I'm surprised, I expected nokia to keep the momentum going and they did just that. Well done to them.

The P1i will be the ultimate phone, to rival N95 wont it?
Posted by goldenface
Nah, don't think so! They're aimed at two different markets.
The P1i is quite plainly a business device. I'll be surprised if the P1i becomes a big seller, touch screens with handwriting recognition and Smartphone interfaces are still niche. It would be hard to sell the P1i to someone who is used to a mid range effort.
Posted by mario2004
The biggest hurdle the P1i will have to overcome is the (very)buggy reputation the P990i left ! Also the iPhone may/will take customers away and lets face it - if someone wants a pda-cell combination wm5/6 devices come to mind. They have sorted out the bugs fairly well by now and the software is available. On the other hand if a cell-pda is desired (note the word cell is first) then the Nokia N and E series are the devices of choice. That leaves the UIQ nowhere ! It had a small market/chance 'in between' but now even that is treatened with iPhone's introduction. And finaly - have you chaps checked what Nokia shares did since all this 'buzz' got going around the N95?
Well done Nokia - How about 40% market share before the years end? - Just a thought -

I was impressed when I 1st heard of the N95 and after many months I am at awe on how ahead of the curve it STILL is. Congratulation Nokia, you deserve the 38% marketshare!
P1i is a year old hardware from the P990 (including similar still unsorted bugs) repackaged in a new shiny shell with an extra 1 megapixel for the cam and 64MB ram. Hardly competition for Nokia and it's NEW upcoming devices.
I long for the day when SE can manufacture a device that rivals those of Nokia. Until then SE will be 2nd, even 3rd, behind Nokia IMHO.
Cheers!
